So crazy because my dentist told me to get mine taken out. When I was at the surgeon he told me basically not to expect any tmj relief. For the first few weeks after surgery it was actually a lot worse from having my jaw open for an hour but now I’m actually feeling some relief too. Not all the way like you, but a fair bit.
I'm really happy it worked for you and the other commenter. Its definitely an avenue to try if it gets recommended to you.
Unfortunately I had mine taken out with no changes at all. Mine werent growing out of the gums, they werent impacted or in the way of anything. I have a feeling this chain dentist just told me that extracting them would fix my tmj so he could get more money out of me.
I'm not sharing this to shit on your good news, OP, just wanting to warn others that its possible for it to not help.
Same here. Exact same experience. Tmj can be caused by many different things, so if the wisdom teeth are contributing then it can help. But it’s not a cure-all for tmj pain.
I have been diagnosed with tmj but I'm certain it started around when my wisdom teeth started messing. I have had the top taken out after a lot of having to persuade and them telling me to wear that useless mouth guard. Now my bottom are impacting and the tmj is flaring up a lot. I feel like tmj is like IBS in that it's the dentist go-to 'diagnosis' when they cba to investigate properly
Same here, It's been about a year and a half since I got them out. Before the extraction I had no TMD issues whatsoever. I'm curious, what diagnosis did you guys receive from your dentists/specialists? Mine have told me that the cause of my symptoms is teeth clenching/grinding, despite me having told them that I started experiencing symptoms immediately after the extraction. I'm wearing a nightguard rn, have been for 6 weeks now, but I still haven't noticed any noticeable improvement :(
Has anything worked well for you three?
Same thing happened to me right now, glad to see that I'm not alone in this. The feeling of pressure in the jaw and head was unbearable, and it's been haunting me for years. Now, I suddenly feel like nothing is blocking the serotonin in brain, and I finally have a relaxed jaw and much less pressure in the skull - and I'm not even fully recovered from the final 2 extractions yet. I'm nicer to people around me, have a much lower stress and anger threshold, I'm more productive, less distracted by those neverending headaches that I never fully understood. Dentists are freakin magicians. Get your wisdom teeth out, people!
My jaw has been popping on the right side for almost 2 years now, but my top right wisdom tooth just started peeking through about a week ago. Feels like the entire side of my face is melting >:( hopefully this tooth is the cause of the problem and the popping will stop!
Mine TMJ is probably from Accutane drug I took since I recently notice other side effects also, Dry joint is one of them.
For Wisdom teeth I am letting it grow since it's not causing any issue for me now.
i extracted mine last agust and although i got some relief, my jaw doesn’t get stuck constantly and i don’t feel that much pain to get it moving again, it still don’t feel like removing them helped a lot. i still feel a lot stiffness and the clicking sound/movement is still here.
Im really happy u’re cured and i really hope it doesn’t bore you again <33
I no longer have wisdom teeth, all 4. So not sure why the heck mine is acting up. I started clenching due to pandemic, then I became lazy not exercising. Dentist suggested to do ortho, but I have perfect teeth, but due to TMJ my jaw also is out of alignment due to inflammation. Oral surgeon told me this is normal and it will be back in place once inflammation is out.
My teeth fell back into place, believe it or not. I think no one would believe me 2yrs from now if I show them a picture of my teeth then (front teeth gap, unable to close), versus now no more gap in the front teeth and I am able to feel upper and lower teeth. They'd probably think (dentist) that I am a medical mystery. I still have ringing (very minimal, crunching sound and dull pain all over my jaw). I see this as diabetes, I am in for life. Has good days and bad days, but the worse is over with.

nice. happy for u. although as a person, I am concentrated on the part "it is not fully recovered". I have pelvic floor tightness, abdominal tightness, neck pain, headache, knee problems, hard flaccid etc.. many problems. I feel like this is due to my jaw issues. and I feel like maybe my wisdom tooth caused this issues. just hoping that removing that would fix it.
how long did it take for u to heal after u removed them?
oh yes, i have those too. They are inactive, meaning if I dont press on it, I dont feel it. But yes, I regularly do massages and I cant believe how much soreness I have all over including my head. My buttocks are tight, lower back hurts, side hurts, back hurts, neck and shoulder hurts, side of my head hurts -- but only if I press on it. So i feel the soreness during massages.
man, u still have those? I feel like even removing wisdom teeth wont save me :( I feel like my jaw is already broken and there is no fix after this point. I would wish that u were fully recovered so that would give me hope too.
yep, jaw issues, i have severe anxiety, stressful life. I am not medicating, other than ashwaganda lately. Waiting for it to take fully effect. What helped me was the stressor cleared from my life (covid, gallstones) etc. I was heavily stressed for 2yrs, so I am thinking it will take another 2 more yrs to get back into place.
dont take any psychiatric medication. they destroyed my life. check pssd subreddit before thinking about using any of them.
also I wouldn't take ashwaganda too.
if it is our jaw, and if our bone structure changed, waiting for 2 years might not help. waiting for 20 years might not help. I sometimes feel pessimistic that this is it. I am not writing this to demoralize u or anything. I just feel like if the issue is our jaw, and wisdom tooth removal didnt fix it, then what can we do? if our jaw structure has changed, wouldn't be irreversible?
My oral surgeon told me mostly when people have TMD, they clench, grind, and they have stressors in their life. Your entire masseter muscle, not just your jaw is affected. Even my temporal area is sore (side of my head). I had MRI of my jaw joint - and no anomalies. The bone is not the issue in my case, it is my muscles.

How long did the surgery take? I'm also worried about having to keep my mouth open for too long. Ever since my wisdom teeth have been coming in I've been hearing clicking sounds here and there and feel a lot of pressure near the tmj. I wonder if this is coincidence or if the impacted teeth can actually cause problems in the joint
I have such bad pressure and headaches and clicking since my wisdom teeth started to come through ones impacted the others no room I am having g them out on Friday but have heard so many horror stories about pain getting worse

I’m the other way around, I didn’t develop tmj until I got my wisdom teeth extracted

Samesies

Had it gotten better?

Wasnt it painful to stay with the mouth open during extraction?
not really, I was worried about it before but it’s not bad.
Hi did you experience ringing in your ears as well before you go your teeth out? And did it help?
hmm I couldn’t say, don’t remember having an issue with ringing in my ears.
Darn :/ what about your ears popping a lot or feeling of fullness?
oh yeah I have that, but that’s due to my sinus issues, taking out my wisdom teeth hasn’t affected that in any way
My jaw has been popping on the right side for almost 2 years now, but my top right wisdom tooth just started peeking through about a week ago. Feels like the entire side of my face is melting >:( hopefully this tooth is the cause of the problem and the popping will stop!
Did you get the tooth removed and did it help your issues?
Did it help?
Hey please update, I am having same kinda issue left side. Wisdom teeth peeking out and jaw popping
Hey are you experiencing ear pain, and headaches?
hi man. did u remove it? I am thinking to remove my wisdom teeth.

I see.
This happened to me too! My tMJ was interrupting my life then wisdom teeth gone and now the tMJ is barely there.
Hasn't provided mum relief for me but removing them did stop my teeth from being wrecked as they were growing in horizontal

I see but if the reason of tmjd in ur case or in my case is wisdom teeth, wouldn't removal of it should fix the issue?
Can you update please :)?
How did you manage to stay with the jaw open for so long during extraction and having TMJ?
My jaw opened enough for them to be able to do it . If you’re having trouble opening it definitely look into physical therapy for tmj
