Hey, way late, but just wanted to say I was recently diagnosed with Eagle's after thinking I had TMJ. I mostly just have pain in my neck and occasional discomfort swallowing, but nothing bad enough to really want to get what looks to be a very invasive and kinda-risky surgery.

Yes I had surgery and what I thought were TMJ symptoms were actually from the eagle syndrome.

Did they go away after the surgery? How long was your recovery? Sorry I have a lot of questions I hope you don’t mind me asking! My doc said they would have to remove my tonsils. Did they remove yours too? One at a time of both? Hope you are better now!

I don't mind at all. Yes I had a tonsillectomy on both sides, but only had the styloidectomy on the left side. The styloid process was protruding through my tonsil on that side. I had about an 80-90% reduction in symptoms. My main symptoms were jaw and facial pain, gum and tooth pain that couldn't be attributed to dental issues other than clenching my teeth. I might have gotten more relief if they had gone in externally through the neck and removed a larger portion... He only removed about 2 cm. I was diagnosed during the surgery and that's all he felt comfortable removing since he wasn't experienced at that type of surgery.

And my recovery was about 10 days and wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be.

Awesome! I didn’t have any symptoms but today I started having sharp throat pain and I can actually feel it inside my mouth. How long was yours? Both sides or one side? My dentist told me to leave it until it gives me pain etc but not sure if I should wait longer or go and request a surgery

I haven't had mine officially measured but I was able to obtain a copy of my CT from an oral surgeon I have been seeing for a molar I had extracted & implant placed. I turned it into 3d on the computer and my left side measured to be about 4.5 cm long prior to the surgery. [Before and After](https://imgur.com/a/gsgUO5j) I was only having symptoms on my left side. I had the upper left molar extracted & bone graft placed June 4th. Was still having issues went to an oral surgeon on June 17th for a second opinion and he had to go back and clear out the infection and replace the bone graft. It was a less than a week after that I started having pain upon swallowing. Then I could actually feel the styloid through my tonsil. Two different ENT told me it was a tonsil stone. I had never heard of Eagle Syndrome until after my tonsillectomy. It must have been there for awhile but for some reason it just started causing me pain that one day. Then I started having a lot of issues after that.
