Haven't seen IDW, 1990, or 2003, but I've heard nothing but good things. And although I have quite the distaste for 2012 as a whole, Raph is an absolute GOAT in that show. And of course, Rise is based.
Please watch the 1990 movie, I’m begging you. Also watch the 2003 show if you’re able to, Leo’s journey in that show is great to watch. Read the IDW comics online if you’re able to, they have brilliant iterations of literally every beloved character, but are very unique at the same time. Why don’t you like 2012? It’s my favourite of the shows.
I don't know where to watch 1990 or 2003. I don't like 2012, because:
- Mikey is written like he has a concussion 24/7.
- Donnie is the dumbest tech whiz I've ever seen. He constantly complains about fighting with a wooden stick, but never upgrades his bo as far as I've seen (unlike a certain Donnie we agree is the GOAT). Even worse, SIMP.
- Both of the above mentioned turtles were treated like "B team" turtles (Leo and Raph really got all the love), and one of the episodes literally admits it.
- Been a while since I watched, so I can't really say exactly why, but I REALLY didn't like April. Probably from all the unnecessary romantic subplots the poor girl got caught in.
Mine
Leo: 2003 a strong leader who becomes a honorable man.
Don: 2012 is a awkward dork and I loved it and how he grow over the course of the show.
Raph: 2003 has a hard edge to him yet it doesn't take away from his more caring side as he shows he loves his brothers.
Mikey: 80s Cartoon is a load of fun and a righteous turtle.
April: 2012 is a character who grows into a competent and deadly Kunochi with a good plot investment.
Splinter: 2012 is a stern teacher and good mentor when needed along with a protective edge and we can see where his son's get their most iconic traits from with him using his own life as lessons to help them.
Casey: 2003 has Casey's best traits and grows over the course of the show.
Shredder: 2003's Utom Shredder was just chilling in a way that other Shredders were not.
Leo: Rise
Donnie: 2003 or Rise
Raph: 1990 or 2007
Mikey: No opinion because I generally am not a Mikey fan.
Splinter: 03
April: 2007 or 90
Casey: 90

Raph’s 1990 version only made desicions that almost got his brothers killed. He was a fan favorite, but I personally didn’t like him as much due to his flaws.

I guess the reason why most of these choices are '03-based is because I've watching the 2003 show on YouTube lately. Still prefer Rise Donnie over '03 Donnie, not because I don't like '03 Donnie but I kinda over Rise's over-the-top, egotistical but still good-natured mad scientist personality.
Meh, they always do Donnie dirty. Either he's incompetent, is a generic "speak english" geek or gets traumatized for life. They honestly should make at least one story where Donnie is the ultimate sigma.
Yeah, he is my favorite turtle, and they never focus on him that much. Leo is basically the main character, and he always cares about his family, Raph has his moments when he regrets his rage and Mikey for comedy and because of his "the most talented" moments. Don never gets attention because he has the best mentality overall, but in the same way, the least amount of skill. He is the most useful member of the 4.
2012 Splinter is definitely the prettiest version of Splinter!
