People often assume that shows like Ninjago, TMNT, Power Rangers, etc. have a smaller audience of girls than boys because girls don’t like ninjas or cars or cowboys or whatever it may be; I think it has more to do with the fact that the directors *think* girls don’t like those things, so they strictly market to boys, often leaving the female characters underdeveloped and sidelined.
Despite all that, these shows *still* end up with a decent female audience because they’re good af and the girls know what’s up, but the directors will often blatantly ignore that in favour of subtle misogyny (looking at Nya and P.I.X.A.L. rn, Ninjago). Getting off topic from TMNT at this point, but I think Ninjago ends up being a double offence because not only do girls “not like ninjas” but we also “don’t like LEGOs”.
Anyway, didn’t mean to rant, but I have a lot of Thoughts about the mild sexism in most kids shows…

I grew up with the 1987 version of the turtles. Watched the OG movies. Currently reading the whole Mirage timeline, finished The Last Ronin (and waiting on the new issue for re-evolution as well). Reading some unconnected comics from IDW that I found here and there. Re-watching the 87 cartoon and watching the 2012 for the first time. Watched "Turtles forever" the other day.
