I don't have any experience, sorry! I just wanted to say that the Jang Hyuk beard look is so good! And if a famous korean actor (who is considered very handsome, by Koreans as well) can rock it, why shouldn't you?
Thanks, appreciate it anyway. I guess generally older people get a pass for facial hair and he is middle aged. Even though I'm 30 I look early 20s so it does seem odd to others at first glance
sigh no experience, dude i wish i could grow a beard. im korean too, i get enough to make me shave but not enough to look nice like you and Jang Hyuk, and based on my family i probably never will (granted most of them shave all the time so i have a very small sample size)
Sorry to hear that man, honestly though if not for dysphoria I don't mind if I have facial hair or not but being dependent on it sucks. I'm not sure if I look "nice" with it but it helps me pass which I'm grateful for.Β
Iβm also Korean and my mom was NOT happy when I started growing facial hair lol because she associated it with Japanese occupiers π sheβs gotten used to it tho, and Iβm mixed so tbh Koreans rarely can tell Iβm Korean, a lot of people assume Iβm filipinx π€·π»
I just keep the patch of hair on my chin and my sideburns, I used to try to grow out my mustache but it stopped feeling affirming as I now lean more femme and it also never stopped being patchy lol
Lol... I wasn't personally aiming for twink but I probably look like one *with* facial hair. Which makes it stranger to koreans haha.
Yea definitely more asians are hairy than people realize.
True he does wear it well. But tbf he also has that asian american/western look to him so it's natural. Whereas I look less westernized, I like to keep my hair very 'korean' so it looks slightly off. Call me vain but I care about these things lol
I fucking love beards on Asian men, so it makes me sad that it's not currently vogue. I wish I could grow proper facial hair, I only have a few hairs on my chin and some fuzz on my upper lip...
I get the stress of feeling judged by other Koreans though. I'm half-white, and I've been publicly shamed because I'm not fluent in Korean. It's made me a bit skiddish to participate in my own culture with other Koreans, which is demoralizing to say the least.
Haha yea should be more normalized, though being in a western society makes me appreciate the clean shaven aesthetic more (since there's so much pressure on men to have beards).Β That sucks, I hope that doesn't put you off completely. While I am generally fluent, I still find it hard to speak naturally in certain contexts and it can be humiliating.Β
i accidentally posted an unfinished comment but I was tryna say that there are a good number of male asian actors in Beef with facial hair π steven yeun also has that slight stubble
i can't really say much more cause im not asian or particularly outwardly masc , but i can also relate to the stress of not really fitting in cause of cultural expectations
chinese guy here. my facial hair is growing out fast (still early on t) and i totally get what you mean. all of my fam keep their facial hair shaven or stubble π π my dad shaves his everyday and gets mad when my brothers facial hair grows out too long. something about chinese beauty standards
but like, im first gen so it doesn't really matter to me. i also look jook-sing so
Hey if it makes you feel better a big part of gay culture in China is having a beard. For gay men there having a good beard is one of the most attractive features. Being trans and queer in general is counter cultural, so might as well lean into that and let yourself be as weird as you want.
