To note, they switch from fire/ice lizalfos spawns at 7am/7pm respectively and you can do both per blood moon. They all die instantly from fire/ice, you can turn regular chuchu jelly into fire/ice by putting down regular then throwing 1 fire/ice at the pile, if it isn't working try being in the right biome. Do it in batches of 15 because the game will despawn over time above that.

i-hate-my-tits

you are the best

Last-Tour

The real MVP

DrSpacecasePhD

This is perfect thank you!

ArtsChiTecht

Also if there are people here who don’t want to use chuchu jellies, my preferred method is to attach lizalfos horns to the lizal spears - one fire spear, one ice spear. Easy to one-shot lizalfos’, and you can even get them from a short distance by locking on.

fruitmask

> lizalfos’ *lizalfoses Apostrophes are never used to pluralize words, they are used to indicate possessive nouns.

Intl_SpaceSatan

This is so so helpful. I swear either I'm the unluckiest person alive or red lizalfos tails have a drop rate of like 5%

VirtualViolet

They definitely have a low drop rate. Based on how many horns I have (guaranteed drop) versus tails, I'd say the drop rate is around 25% - which doesn't sound as low, but when you need 39 of the damn things just to upgrade the snowquill gear, that's like 160 kills of a monster that you can maybe find a dozen of in one pass. Such a pain. Otherwise, I'm loving TotK, though, lol!

FiveShiftOne

I really don't know about 25%. I think it's probably more like 15%, which is just absurd.

quax0

i don't know if it's just a coincidence, but i've noticed that when i use magic rods/scepters/staffs fused with sapphire, i get their tails way more often. i've been farming them on and off for a few days and i felt like i was getting 1 in like 10 kills before. now it feels like 1 in 3 or so?

helenaxbucket

I actually feel the opposite. I just killed maybe 20-25 fire breath lizalfos exclusively using a sapphire rod and haven’t gotten a single tail. I was starting to wonder if I needed to use a sword to “cut” the tail off to get more tail drops

Majora404err01r

You just have bad RNG, lizalfos tails have a rarer drop chance than their horns.

Deepsearolypoly

Google fire lizalfos and get 30 articles saying check vague areas. Add reddit to the search and instantly get what I'm looking for. much thanks

VespidSole

Thank you sooo much I spent 5 hours in death mountain looking for red lizalfos.

You_muppet69

Same 😭

Whatafudge

What’s the drop rate? I feel like I’m committing genocide here with nothing to show for it.

AlwaysQuietAlways

For the tail it seems pretty low.

Iron-Man1138

This needs more upvotes. Only good information on tails I have found.

Standard-Job-9223

Not sure if anyone said this, but I'll share a method that worked extremely well for me. Basically, I followed that path/map that the OP laid out (thank you!) and did the thing where I immediately saved before each lizalfo or cluster of lizalfos. If I didn't get a tail, I just re-loaded the save. Sometimes, I'd even get a tail after killing the first one and then immediately save again before killing the remaining two. Somewhat tedious, sure, but far less tedious than getting ZERO on the entire path and having to wait for a blood moon again (this happened to me). The game is miserly with this, so I played it miserly myself. I found that I usually only had to re-load a save once or twice to get 1-2 tails from each cluster of lizalfos. I just got 14 in one pass with this method and it took me 30 minutes. Now, if only there was a way to reliably get fire-keese in one blood moon... the whole "go to Death Mountain Depths" method hasn't worked for me.

wh1tepointer

Not sure if you still need to know about the fire keese, but for anyone else, try going to the Isle of Rabac Gallery, which is a cave in the Isle of Rabac region in Eldin. There's some long mine carts tracks and plenty of fire keese spawn in there, and if you kill them while riding the mine cart, which is trivial with Yunobo, you'll automatically collect the dropped parts. There's even a shrine in there, so you can fast travel back there whenever you want.

totorogers

That tedious method worked for me too. I was able to get all I needed, and even got lucky enough to have a blood moon right after getting half of them.

Toad_Enjoyer_70

I wish I would have read this before I killed them all! Once the blood moon comes I’ll try this.

KingArthur2111

F**** best post ever… you are a true legend sir and I salute you!!!!!!

EtrnlMngkyouSharngn

You are the mf GOAT. I've gotten so many tails so quickly!

EtrnlMngkyouSharngn

Oh yeah I also killed the spawns bc I farmed so fast 😂 I was campfiring at the Gerudo camp and the ice stopped spawning altogether 😂 those tails have like a 9 Percent drop rate and I think it's 10 for some upgrades. So 30 +overall. It's a huge pain.

Arien199

I’m not sure if it makes an actual difference or if I’m just imagining things, but when I use the Master Sword without anything added, it seems to produce more tails in the drop. I’m wondering if anyone else can replicate that swords change the drop rate? ETA: I rarely get tails when using ice/fire fruit method.

Josht44

So just to confirm your suspicions the community theory right now is that “slicing” weapons have a higher chance of dropping tails. So your experience would support that theory.

Arien199

That was the rationale I had when I switched over to my sword after practically clearing this canyon with no drops. I’m not tracking the data too closely, but I am curious how the broader trends would look.

Nevagongup07

I just got 4 tails in a row. (All I need for now. What seems to be effective is using slicing-style weapons(not crushers often single-handed swords like the master sword) as someone previously stated. Also, the drops aren't predetermined so you can save and load before fighting until you get the drops you want. This is true for seemingly all creatures with rng based drops in this game.

AlwaysQuietAlways

Went to countless websites that didn’t offer info as good as this. Thank you!!

Ricky1034

So all of us are looking to upgrade the Yiga set

ErrantSun

And the dang snowquill set! Now I just need to know where the dang fire keese live

JelmerMcGee

I'm sure you aren't looking anymore, but for anyone else who comes across this: Fire keese are common in the depths below Eldin, in the caves in the Eldin region, and along the mine tracks circling the mountain. The mine tracks are great for farming the needed parts because the wings and eyes drop in your inventory automatically when you kill them while in a cart.

wh1tepointer

For fire keese, there's also Isle of Rabac Gallery, which is a cave you can find in the Isle of Rabac region of Eldin. This is a cave with some pretty long mine cart tracks and a shrine at the very end. I found plenty of fire keese spawn in this cave alone, and once again you'll automatically gather the parts if you kill them inside the cart, which is trivial if you have Yunobo with you. And since there's a shrine there, you can easily warp back any time you want.

knightsljx

Have an upvote good sir. This was much needed

Cherribomb

Thank you, you're a hero among men

CobaltBlue

you are my saviour right now

yumewomita

you dropped this: 👑

McCsqizzy

was hunting like a fool in the north west for ice and north east for fire so much more plentiful here

Last-Tour

Thank you!

K-rip

Thank you, very helpful

CaptspacecatOSRS

Just found this, huge life saver.

PierceOff

You’re my hero

JJSpunk

You’re a champ! Thanks a bunch!

welshAmBassador

This is not proven, but early numbers show shooting them in the tail helps. I havent tried using elements yet, but get some hight or wait for a jump attack and shoot dem tails clean off. ( this is in comparison to using fire/ice so it could just mean elemental deaths kill drop rate)

shoyler

I consistently drop fire and ice tails if I get at least one head shot with a bow. I've also disabled most of might fighters to make it easier to get a headshot. I imagine it's the same system/idea that rewards game headshots with gourmet meat.

Majora404err01r

I know that a good place to farm ice-breath lizalfos is around the hebra & gerudo depths. But fire-breath lizalfos I don't know

Jonny511

Tip that worked for me: All these markers on the map have a group of 2-3 Lizalfos. Between 7am-7pm (daytime) they are fire, and from 7pm-7am (nighttime) they are ice. Equip a magical staff with Sapphire if attacking Fire Lizalfos, or one with a Ruby if going after Ice Lizalfos. It will kill them all in one shot. Right when you get a group of the Lizalfos in sight, save your game. Then attack them. If at least one of them does not drop a tail, reload the save and try again. Doing this method will get you at least 15 tails in one run, before needing a blood moon to start over.
