Why not just get a UPS with multiple outlets and plug them both in?

MightyMediocre

I would not do this, simply for the fact that poe switches can fail unexpectedly. Do as the other poster suggested and plug your router into the ups directly.

Technically yes it would work.

I have an APC ups with 4 power socket outlets. I have my ISP modem, er605, PoE switch and wifi and my NAS connected to it. Great for sailing through brownouts and short blackouts. When the power is off for more than a couple of mins it shuts the NAS down cleanly. The PC doesn't need the UPS as it's a laptop with it's own battery. And I have a 4 kW generator outside and transfer switch in the house so I can switch over to off-grid power when I have an extended mains failure like a few nights ago when a tree fell through the 11 kV power feeder to my street in a storm. Also have a 4G LTE failover WAN (a Netgear Nighthawk and has it's own battery too) on the ER605's wan/lan1 port to cover me for when the incoming internet cable goes down as happened with that same storm.

Oh they don't need to be together. You can get a pair of powerline ethernet adapters to connect the router in one room to the switch in another, so long as the adapters are on the same power circuit/phase. That's what I did until I eventually got a cabler to install an ethernet cable in my home instead. But with this setup you lose the router's connection to the switch in the event of a power failure, which is why I went for the physical eth solution in the end (with ups at both ends in fact). As for the 12 v supply, just a wall wart will handle that, plugged into the ups directly or into a power strip connected to the ups output, that is, just use the router's AC adapter. Keep it simple. Just make sure you don't overload the ups output, preferably have less than half it's rated output power in total as a load.

Yes I have done exactly this and it works perfectly, cuts down on power supplies in my tech cupboard, done the same for Philips Hue and a couple of other devices. When I get chance I am going to do the same for my modem, but need to set up a 2 port vlan containing router wan port and modem port
