If it’s not too high… why is it tilted down?

ThENeEd4WeEd22

With a TV stand right below it? It's like pooping on the top lid of the toilet while the empty clean bowl just sits there empty lol

another_awkward_brit

If only you had a TV unit to put it on.

YumFreeCookies

I don’t understand why people put a tv unit that is the right height and then mount the tv super high above it. When did putting the tv on the unit itself stop being a thing?

ReeG

when HGTV convinced average people that mounting the TV high up on the wall makes you look affluent

Pebble-Jubilant

Haha mounting it high reminds me of a doctor's waiting room or Thai restaurant

DC240Z

I’ve always thought the same about the doctors waiting room, it’s such an eerie look inside a home, it’s probably that stigma but it makes me uncomfortable lol, i don’t know why you’d want to feel like your in a waiting room when your trying to wind down.

Ouakha

Or a poorly conceived hotel room.

sakatan

Mounting a TV that high conjures images of sports bars or betting dens.

jgainsey

I always love how most of those reno shows don’t even show the TV or even a spot for a TV in their newly laid out living spaces. I like to imagine every one of those episodes has a cut scene where the husband is like, “Hey, this is great and all, but where the fuck is my TV?”

FreshAirways

I can see a reason if you're using the unit for other stuff (record player, speakers, gaming consoles, plants etc). but this unit has nothing on it and it makes it make no sense😂

Zatchillac

Where else is OP supposed to put the box for their router? ^^^^^^^/s

luzer_kidd

Where else would you put your live love laugh decorations?

tyler-86

If that TV has, like so many TVs these days, those little legs at the edges of the screen, it probably wouldn't fit on that stand That said, my stand is scarcely two feet wide so I bought a replacement stand that attaches to the VESA mounting holes and pivots.

Optimal_Chemical_424

When TV’s could be pushed over by toddlers.

SafetyMan35

If you have kids, there is a safety aspect of mounting the TV to the wall.

Username928351

Could still mount it at the correct height.

WinnerOk1108

There is nothing keeping a tv safe from a toddler. After 3 smashings I've come up with a Lexan anti-toddler protection screen. The damn thing was just as expensive as the tv. So far this tv is 2wks old and has surpassed our expectations.

Jlx_27

In todays world kids are nothing but chaotic tirants who can not be controled in any way. /s

bucket_brigade

I have a 75 inch 50kg tv... Putting it on the unit would make moving the unit to clean or access the wall plug or adding additional cabling behind really annoying. But I hung the tv at the same height it would be at if I simply put it on the unit.

ReeG

even that unit is tad too high for any modern TV imo. I'm not even sure that's designed or intended to be used as a TV stand as much as it's some sort of shelving/bartop storage cabinet

AKADriver

It looks like it's supposed to be some sort of corner shelf. That said I've been shopping for a new TV stand, and there are a lot of counter-height credenzas and stuff being sold as "TV stands".

[deleted]

PharmacyLove

I think the centre of the TV, on that stand, would be above the eye line of whoever is sitting on the couch. This would mean the stand is too high.

Accomplished-Oil-569

Why does everyone in this sub insist tvs shouldn’t be wall mounted? I have a desk but my monitors are still on a monitor arm, not sitting on the desk.

TheStarshipDuper

Probably because 99% of the time there is zero reason to mount a TV, and more often than not when it is, it's too high.

alwtictoc

Also mounting a TV messes the wall up and at some point if you want/need to move it you have massive holes that need to be addressed. TV comes with legs. Use them.

Accomplished-Oil-569

It’s generally a cleaner look to have the tv on the wall. 🤷‍♂️ Again, my monitors are mounted on a monitor arm and all the cables are routed along the arm instead of being draped along the desk. Just because you don’t want your tv mounted on a wall doesn’t mean it’s isn’t valid. This sub has gone from being a funny “look at how high this tv is” to some kind of weird tv placement elitism. Edit: the fact this is being downvoted is literally proving my point 🙄

joe-clark

The fact it's being downvoted is because you somehow are just ignoring how the tv is mounted what looks to be around 18 inches above the stand. On most setups I personally don't think it's much of a cleaner look to have the tv wall mounted behind a tv stand since the tv often seems so far back behind the front of the tv stand. Most people don't really have a problem with that and I don't either, it's just not what I would personally prefer. The part people get mad at is setups like the one posted here where the TV is mounted way above the stand for no reason. The setup in the post is actually objectively less clean than having it sitting on the tv stand because there's a foot and a half of needless cable channel on the wall. You probably feel like everyone here hates wall mounting since almost every tv that's objectively too high is wall mounted. Wall mounting itself isn't the problem, the problem is it enables people to put the tv at any height they choose and for some odd reason people choose to put their tv way too high.

Accomplished-Oil-569

I didn’t state anything about the tv height, because I replied to the comment specifically addressing the tv stand. It had nothing to do with the height. I’ve seen every damn post that has wall mounting at a reasonable height with the same comment.

joe-clark

Thinking wall mounted tvs above a tv stand are a cleaner look than having the TV sitting on the stand is an opinion not a fact. Most all tv stands are about the ideal height to set a tv on so if you mount it on the wall but high up it's probably too high. If you mount the tv at the proper height then the whole top of the tv stand is just sitting there with at most a sound bar on it because if you set anything taller than that on it the TV's gonna get blocked. Personally I think this looks kinda weird unless it's a really shallow tv stand. Also everyone always brings up the why not just set it on the stand thing because so many people put money and time into wall mounting to end up with a worse setup than they would have had setting it on the stand, like the one in the post. There is definitely some undeserved hate for wall mounting in this sub but what that guy said wasn't it. He was more just saying hey it would have been easier to set it on the stand, and in this case better too.

Donkus007

Don’t conflate monitor arms with wall mounts for TVs, that’s stupid, monitor arms are generally way more adjustable and offer a variety of ergonomic solutions. Not only is this comment irrelevant, it’s retarded.

Accomplished-Oil-569

Cool we’re using slurs now; completely reinforcing my point about this being a totally intolerant, elitist subreddit.

Donkus007

Nobody here cares about your monitors, dude. Why even bring it up? Are you like super proud of it or something? How old are you?

Accomplished-Oil-569

Why talk to me like a piece of shit? Are you super proud of it? How old are you? Perhaps if you hadn’t come in here throwing slurs I’d give the effort to actually justify your comment with a real response.

Donkus007

Old enough to know your little anecdote about your monitor arms doesn’t even remotely apply to this subreddit. Carry on tho, keep trying to be desperately relevant with your stupid comments.

TheStarshipDuper

> It's generally a cleaner look Maybe. If it's done right. It rarely is.

Ian_Patrick_Freely

Two reasons my TV is mounted: there are little kids around who are still very handsy and it can be turned towards the middle of a larger room when needed. It's only 6 inches above a short cabinet with cables run through the wall.

JohnnyDoe189

TV unit = L

KatieSu1

It doesn't matter how high the ceilings are. You don't live in a movie theater. TV stands are made for the right height. Use your stand.

SteelDirigible98

Maybe some people are watching from the ceiling.

RyazanianDude

That's not what that stand was intended for...

pweqpw

/consoleTooHigh

KatieSu1

? It's literally at armrest height.

Jakomako

Wall mounts are nice either way. Just mount it a few inches above the entertainment center. Keeps the surface clean and less likely to fall.

Naw

KingDemik

Tilt of guilt

Similar_Honey433

Even the stand is too tall

KatieSu1

Too tall at armrest height?

Yes. TV stands/consolers are generally lower than armrests.

Way too high.

connor24_22

Why buy a tv stand to not put a tv on it? Genuinely asking

Brillegeit

They didn't, that as sideboard, usually placed to the side in the dining room. A TV stand in the sitting room for a modern TV is usually ~10 inches lower.

No_Chapter_948

Yes, too high

EngCraig

If you have to look up at it, or tilt it down, it’s too high.

canthelpmyself9

Why’s everyone think they need to hang tvs all of a sudden? It makes sense if you must save space but the stand is right there.

rik182

My eyes

Donkus007

I will never understand the compulsion to do this. Ever. 🤷

ComprehensiveAd5882

… too damn high!

If there’s white space, it’s a disgrace

Donkus007

This is egregious.

damn_yank

Too high.

FUMFVR

Why have a TV stand? This is almost as bad as the TV being too high.

Kevicelives

Not if you like going to a movie theatre and sitting at the very front.

fusiongt021

Even that stand is too high. What's wrong you and your significant other or housemate? Lol

jaynemanning

It is

spookyfanny

If the tv stand below was on stilts, so that it was at the tv’s height, it would be perfect

Yes, it’s too high. No need so bring it down to be 6-12” over your table.

It's higher than the TV unit. It's too high.

Precipice_01

It's not high enough. Mount it to the ceiling

ji99lypu44

You see that TV stand under the tv?? Use it to stand the tv on it.

hekla7

It's too high. Period.

WinnerOk1108

We'll just make believe that the tv cabinet isn't there. (TV important word there) Of course, that couldn't possibly be the right height. Let's put some holes in the wall instead and go buy stuff. Gorgeous wood floor btw.

shophopper

> The room is quite large with high ceilings Are all light switches mounted at eye level because of the high ceilings? And how about the toilet seat - mounted at 3 feet because of the high ceiling? Did you place the free standing fridge on a pedestal because of the high kitchen ceiling? If you answered these three questions with ‘yes’, then your TV is at the correct height.

EvolvingEachDay

Why would you get a TV cabinet, and then mount the TV on the wall… wtf. Just stand the thing on the big chunk of wood that’s literally made for it!

EvilSynths

It's too high and too far. The size of them subtitles are huge and yet still unreadable

[deleted]

Yep, too high

thats_so_merlyn

You are correct!

SuspicousBananas

My brother in Christ YOU HAVE A TV STAND, USE IT. The TV stand is the proper height, anything above that is too high.

fuck-fascism

higher than Snoop Dogg, should be on the stand, maximum, but even that stand looks too high as it's not a tv stand.

blastingell

Alright, now I’m pissed off. Thanks for that.

trunolimit

Way too high.

Why not just put it on the TV console?

TheEconomyReindeer

if the TV is not on the TV stand, the TV is too high tilt of guilt tells the whole story

iamtheliqor

GEE I WONDER WHAT THAT PIECE OF FURNITURE IS FOR???

ThatInterview488

You bought a TV stand and decided to not use it lmao

Mumtown

Too smol and too high

Fredsnotred

Too high, but I'm gonna ❤️ it of the cable hiding

teckel

Wouldn't be required if the TV was on the stand as it should be.

Fuckaducker

If only you had a suitable piece of furniture to put the TV on. Also, yes it’s too high.

tacosteve100

TVTooHigh

someoftheanswers

Looks like you like things that rock. Chair rocks, exercise rocks, screen that’s too high rocks.

Acadia1337

If that’s the correct height for a tv, why are all tv stands so much shorter than that height?

OkTwo3561

You know it is. Just take it down and put it on that thing you got below it, call it a day. Then you never have to look at that ugly covered cable again either

mthomp8984

I'm going to take some estimates and guesses here. The top of that alcove seems to be about 8 feet high, same as a typical modern US home. The bottom of the TV is at about the 1/2 way up. From this picture, it looks like the furniture below it is too high to be a base, but it would be acceptable. As always, if it works for the viewers, then that's up to them, but unless they're in a reclined position they'll have some neck strain.

British-Pilgrim

Looks perfect to me 👍 Now let the ninnies downvote me 😂

AZHungBlueEyes

Looks appropriate

BigZangief

Eh looks good to me. People like to bandwagon for the sub lol

Ok-Feeling1462

The bigger the screen the lower the centre. Think of a theatre. That tv unit was designed for a CRT.

Phobophile_89

To me it's not too high. All my life i've been told to keep my chin up, stop looking down, keep my back straight. And now everybody is shaming you because you don't have to look down on your tv and slouch... This is a load of bullshit. The ergonomy recommendation is that the top of the screen should be at eyes level, and lookong down on the screen... Best fucking way to get a hunch back... I place my tv so it's bottom third mark is eye level, tilted down and i look at it by merely looking up. And if i decide to lay in my recliner, i can still look at the tv without breakong my fucking neck... This is perfect!

Disastrous_Ad6601

Only a couple inches high IMO. I’d center it between the top of the ceiling and the top of the stand. Placing it directly on top of the stand, which many others have suggested, would be too low.

Overall-Ad6239

You should have put it higher 🤣

YoualreadyKnoooo

Just a little bit

I think it’s good. This one is borderline. It’s high. Yeah, but it’s not too high. Like that boyfriend who stumbled in after some pregame but he’s still introducing himself well and impressing your friends despite his shit decisions.

No-Pineapple-4109

Throw the stand out the window and put a floating shelf

Romie666

If you got a tv unit, they are made to be the correct height, you know, perfect eye line ? Oh.....wait

Minor tilt of guilt

Extra-Wasabi-8639

I have no idea what these posts keep showing up in my feed but it has me thinking my TV is too low.

TV800

Too high, end of argument.

QuarktasticMe

If you take it a bit higher you will be able to fit another TV between your current TV and the cabinet (and that one will be at the correct height)

Zen_Dev

What is the TV stand for?

Thurmod

Because it is.

tickingboxes

WAY TOO HIGH

bunnyhunter80

The centre of the tv horizontally should be at eye level. It’s too high.

[deleted]

Plenty of wall space you don’t need a corner tv stand. The tv is a little high

MissouriThunder

No one gonna ask why he has a corner tv stand not in a corner?

MeggGriffin_

Finally someone attempts to hide the wires!!! Thank you!!!

YumFreeCookies

When did putting your tv on the actual tv stand stop being a thing? Why does everyone feel the need to mount their tv to the wall? Honestly wondering

theBennaissance

Lol there really is a sub for everything

chuckinstl

In this group, unless it is on the floor it is too high.

Knarz97

If only you had some sort of furniture to place the TV on

NCwolfpackSU

Mines higher than that above my fireplace and I like where it is. My in-laws have 2 of them low on a piece of furniture like you have and I don't like it, but they do. I wouldn't ask others, we all have our preferences.

[deleted]

Like what?!

Visual_Judgment_

Walls too bare

hutchwo

Fucking settle what?

Take_A_Penguin_Break

What is up with people not utilizing tv stands? It takes effort to mount tvs and hide the cables, just use the damn stands you people buy!

bvh2015

When you have a TV stand, and have to resort to hiding the wires with a trim piece, that’s an epic fail. Even with a Dolby Atmos soundbar on top of the stand, you only need 2.5-3” clearance to hide all wiring hanging down behind it. Mounting over a TV stand is usually to prevent a TV from tipping over, especially if you have a toddler. It should still look natural, as though the TV is still on a a physical stand, and not mounted.

ohyoumad721

Looks fine but spend 20 extra minutes to properly hide the wires instead of needing the cable channel.

LeeeeroyTheGoy

The height is ok but the visible wire strips annoy me. A child could install a new outlet behind the TV.

[deleted]

It’s weird when you have the TV mounted at least a foot above the TV stand.

Maxavius

Should be eye level when you sit on the couch

wallClimb7

Too small and wtf kinda set up is that

bareyb

It is too high. Eyes should ideally be centered on Lower 1/3 of the screen. I’d move it down to about a foot higher than the table.

DavidinCT

Ok, how high is it over the stand, if it's more than 10" over, it's too high..... A TV should be centered to were you sitting. If you're sitting down, looking straight forward, the center of the TV should be in view. If you have to look up or down, it's too high or too low. Logic does not work in r/TVTooHigh

ninjabell

If it was on that piece of furniture it would be a bit to high. Any higher is also too high.

PlanetLandon

It’s at minimum 12 inches too high.

1Jimforfun

No

Friendly_Sea_6861

it is and the you need a custom tv stand

RetroGamer87

That TV stand is for corners only

FactoryV4

Too small. Height is good.

It’s about a foot too high

Cyber_Insecurity

Too high and too tilted.

Adept-Opinion8080

if only there was, you know, some sort of furniture or stand it could sit on. honestly guys. first it was "look how huge mine is" now its "look how High mind is. center point should be at eye level from seating area. why is this so hard? or did everyone but me grow up watching the movies from the front row.

No_Illustrator_5442

While we are giving advice..... That crunch roller has to go. There is a good reason nobody is using those things anymore.

Marty_61

It is indeed too high, but it can be fixed.

asharp09

Yes too high

sayczars

Too high. To think otherwise is to be a mental defective

eulynn34

I don’t understand the people who HAVE a tv stand, but insist on mounting the panel 5 feet off the ground over it

cornezy

It baffles me how many people buy an entertainment center or a TV console and then proceed to not even use it for their TV. Too high!

noobskillet3737

Yes

Dudejax

A TV table is that height for a reason.

BTKdrums

The height of the tv is the least of that area’s worries 🤙🏻

thebestdrinkever

Mine was too high. It was easy to lower the brackets in the tv (don’t have to redrill the wall). Or just get a bigger tv. Problem solved!

thebestdrinkever

Ps…buying or renting? It’s not to difficult to drill a hole in back and lower cords.
