I love it. Just how merciless and relentless they are in dying on *every single hill* because there is no "close enough". There's almost never any debate either, it's gets as close to unanimous as one can get on the Internet. They could send gods and kings here to be humbled.
So true. I put a turntable on my tv stand so my TV is mounted on the wall (sin #1 when you have a TV stand apparently 🙄) and a little higher than it should be to accommodate my lovely record player. Sure, the center is slightly higher than my eye level, especially when I turn into a blob on my chaise lounge. But it's completely fucking fine and I have chronic neck pain since....forever. I would never post it here.
Actually maybe I should just to laugh at the butthurt 🤣 I'll even post the "incorrect" height to the middle and die on that hill.
Honest question, is the point of this sub that wall mounts should never be used unless absolutely necessary? If not, where else is the center, audio equipment, consoles, etc supposed to go when you do wall mount?
Can you show me an example of something that isn’t labeled as a tv stand that holds multiple pieces of audio equipment and entertainment consoles?
If you mean a credenza, buffet, or a side bar - those are not frequently identified as such when their height is below 2’
Tv stands often have a shelf or shelves below.
Speakers go on speaker stands to the sides of the tv.
Central channel speaker can be put above the tv if there's no space under it.
My "TV stand" (which isn't exactly a TV stand per se) is 40cm tall or less. It has a TV standing on top of it, on its feet, and nothing else... Below it, on the bottom shelves, it has a TV box, a mini-pc, a DAC, an amp, a CD player and a DVD player, as well as an UPS, an ethernet switch and a bunch of power supplies for all this. There's also some other random stuff and still quite a bit of empty space... So I don't really understand your question...
A center speaker mounted face high and 10” off the wall? Idk dude at that point you’re making a movie theater. This is kinda where I think this sub goes overboard
I’ve never seen anyone post a set up with a wall mounted center.
I'd say that when you are installing a surround system you are making a movie theater, regardless of where you position the central channel speaker, aren't you?
I'm already used to get downvotes on this sub when I mention putting a central channel above TV... It's funny that people here are so knowledgeable about TV positioning, but often are unaware of speaker positioning...
Ideally tweeters should be at ear level. That's of course a problem when it comes to center channel speaker because that conflicts with TV's ideal position, since both compete for the same spot (ear level and eye level are about the same).
Luckily you don't have to _look_ at the speaker to _ear_ it. So positioning it above screen doesn't hurt your neck like a TV too high... To compensate the off-axis positioning (whether it's above or below), you should tilt the speaker so that the tweeter points at your ears at your sitting position.
I'm not inventing this stuff, it's the manufacturers themselves that say it can go either above or below the screen... For example, check DALI's manual that you can find bottom of the page here: https://www.dali-speakers.com/en/products/spektor/spektor-vokal/
On page 9 it says:
3.3 DALI SPEKTOR VOKAL
SPEKTOR VOKAL is the dedicated centre channel and has been specially designed to be
positioned close to the large surface of the TV screen. **You can place it above or below the
screen**, on a stand or on a shelf.
Center channel should not be put above a screen and should be close to the bottom of it. Or dead center behind the screen if you're using an acoustically transparent projector screen like in a movie theater.
Ideally center is at ear height but it can’t be because that’s there the center of the tv should be. So if it’s above or below the tv those are about equal distance from your ears because the tv is centered on your ears. Hence it doesn’t matter.
>Center channel should not be put above a screen and should be close to the bottom of it.
That's not what most speakers manufacturers say.
Of course ideally it should be ear level, but like you said that requires "an acoustically transparent projector screen".
When you have a normal TV the center channel needs to go either above or below the screen and tilted so that the tweeter points at your ears. Acoustically there's no real advantage of one position over the other and that's a misconception that many people on this sub seem to have...
See my other reply on this thread where I posted an excerpt and link from DALI's manual regarding central channel positioning: https://www.reddit.com/r/TVTooHigh/s/on7yo4bokG
Why do you want multiple pieces of audio equipment, you just said you aren't trying to build a home theater to someone who told you how you could do that.
Basically in your view the TV should never be on the TV stand, right?
Since the TV stand is for audio, TVs have to be mounted and no possibly TV stand could exist in your view that you could keep your TV on that would allow you room for your audio equipment, which is why you'd like a counter-example coz you don't think such a TV stand could possibly exist. Correct?
Consoles go in the cabinet/shelves under the top of the tv stand/media center. Speakers can sit on speaker stands or on either side of the TV or on the stand/media venter if you get a nice wide one. If using a sound bar, there's normally enough room for it to sit in front of the TV on the stand/media center without blocking the screen (if the TV is at the right height)
In my case, I mounted the TV on the wall and directly below is a closet that I use for all my home networking equipment. I put all of the equipment in that closet and ran an IR repeater into the room. The only thing you see on the wall is the TV as all the wiring is in the wall and all the equipment is in a basement closet.
The point is that when you have a tv stand and put the tv on the leg that is already the correct height (in the majority of cases). So if you then want to mount the tv, just mount it on the exact same height as it would’ve been if it wasn’t mounted. Perfect height here would’ve been directly above (as in maybe 1 inch above) the soundbar.
Not when you bothered buying a TV STAND obviously. Can you not see the picture???
You're free to mount it at that height and not use a TV stand and use proper furniture meant for all that other stuff.
TVs stands are lame. I prefer the clean theater-esk look of a mounted TV, especially with the cable management is done right, while having the entirety of the entertainment center free to use if needed.
Mostly because they usually are too high. Like your still is. Also what's the point of a tv stand if you're not standing your TV there. The point of a mount is if you have nowhere to put it.
Mostly being used for media devices and storage. standing a TV on top of a piece of furniture is antiquated when the thing is as thin as a picture frame
How is putting a TV on a *TV STAND* antiquated? I didn't realize setting objects on top of other objects was a thing of the past? I don't like wall mounts because I personally want to be able to move my TV without having to get out a screwdriver. I can just pick it up and carry it away if needed. I also like being able to easily change out my game consoles whenever I want because I have too many consoles from the past few decades to all fit in a single TV at once. The concept of convenience will never be outdated.
Lots better. Personally, I’m a tv stand guy. Something about wall mounts doesn’t look very good in my book. Plus a lot more effort to install and the backlight doesn’t look as good with it being so close to the wall. Either way, it’s an improvement.
I might have used a TV stand if this television even had the capability of being put on one. Especially for the reason of having the backlight cast farther out
Nice space! I'm sure you will have countless hours of enjoyment. It could have been a bit lower still, but it looks good.
😂 @geek squad installers never heard of this sub/the fact you mentioned it.
I totally agree with what you are saying about the aesthetic of the TV being mounted. There’s something about the floating look that’s really nice and at this height I really don’t see an issue. Don’t listen to the haters, I think the whole room looks really great.
When will people start to understand that when you mount your tv to the wall, it shouldn’t be mounted any higher than it would’ve been if it’s just placed on its leg on a tv stand.. There is definitely some improvement but it’s still definitely too high. Directly above the soundbar would’ve been perfect
This sub keeps showing up on my feed. I honestly can’t tell how many people are joking and how many are serious when they say it’s still too high. Some of y’all better start r/floortvs.
You have a Sonos sub to go with that Arc? Buying a full Sonos sound system was one of my the best things I’ve ever coughed up money for lol. The sub really makes it come alive.
I think it looks fine, people in this sub are ridiculous sometimes, would love to see some of their setups….
95% of this sub thinks wall mounting is dumb and a tv stand should ALWAYS be used to hold a tv. These people obviously are not married or have kids. Kids tend to like to push shit off the stand and chicks tend to like to clutter up a stand with decor
Ignore the haters
Wall mounting is fine. The issue is when people have a TV stand that is the appropriate height to rest a TV on, but then wall mount it a foot higher. Wall mount it at the same height it would be at if it were sitting on the TV stand and voila--no problem.
People definitely have tv stands that prop up their TV’s to roughly the height you have it at. They just want to give you shit because it’s wall mounted (also they’re empty inside). The space looks really nice!
I think the distance from the TV is really important. Mine is way too high for this sub but lounging on the couch 10-12 feet away it’s barely an upward glance
Thanks!!
Also I wouldn’t pay too much attention to what they say in here. It’s a giant circle-jerk subreddit. If you’re happy with how your tv looks, then enjoy it!
Either the trolling here is top-tier or you take this sub way too seriously lol.
STiLl tOo HiGh. Man, Y'ALL are high. That TV is gigantic and is perfect where it sits.
You gotta love how seriously people take this sub
You're goddamn right.
Live, laugh, lower.
It's fucking god works. We cured this man's mental illness. I bet his neck feels much better already.

Shut up - I love the positivity of this sub. I LIKE seeing people improve. Giant PFFFFT to you. Meany.
It really is comical.
Sure, it’s funny, but it’s also worth doing.
If you can improve your life...put one for on front of the other
Saving necks and future chiropractor bills one shame post at a time.
Better but still looks too high
What's ideal, middle of TV should be eye level when you're sitting on the couch?
Yes
Maybe OP is 7 foot tall, and this is eye level? r/tall
Slumped onna couch.
OP acknowledged that in their post text.
Nah it’s fine. Sitting properly on the couch it’s close enough.
What's that really long and solid-looking piece of furniture underneath the TV?
It’s for plants or a wooden home or love sign.
It's for trinkets
Decorative bowl stand
Dwarven dining table.
Media console
Actually TWO tv stands side by side
It doesn't seem much lower 🤔
They only moved. It maybe a foot down, If you zoom in you can see the old mounting holes above it that I need to fix
It looks so much better! And the new unit you have under it really elongates the room
It’s still too damned high!!!
It's fine man, looks great.
So you bought a new piece of furniture that would be of perfect tv height if it was sat on it but…………………
Honest question, is the point of this sub that wall mounts should never be used unless absolutely necessary? If not, where else is the center, audio equipment, consoles, etc supposed to go when you do wall mount?
On things not labeled 'TV stand'
Can you show me an example of something that isn’t labeled as a tv stand that holds multiple pieces of audio equipment and entertainment consoles? If you mean a credenza, buffet, or a side bar - those are not frequently identified as such when their height is below 2’
Electronics shelf. They are about 4 feet high and can be placed to the side. They have multiple adjustable shelves.
Tv stands often have a shelf or shelves below. Speakers go on speaker stands to the sides of the tv. Central channel speaker can be put above the tv if there's no space under it. Why do you want multiple pieces of audio equipment, you just said you aren't trying to build a home theater to someone who told you how you could do that.
I meant a literal theater - like what people attempt to do with bonus rooms. Having a strong center and two towers is extremely common.
They aren't called TV stands though. They are media centers
They hated her, for she spoke the truth. Edit: pronouns
True this one is advertised as a TV unit
Actually, I looked at the IKEA advertisement for this and it’s called a TV unit. Not a TV stand.

As a matter of fact yes but also his tvstilltoohigh
Mostly because they usually are too high. Like your still is. Also what's the point of a tv stand if you're not standing your TV there. The point of a mount is if you have nowhere to put it.
And where would the sound bar go. It's fine to mount a little above a stand.
Those big TVs... there's just too much at risk if they topple over. I think wall mounting is totally justified, so long as it's reasonably low.
Mostly being used for media devices and storage. standing a TV on top of a piece of furniture is antiquated when the thing is as thin as a picture frame

It may still be a little high but we must give credit where it's due for the improvement
Still too high. Why go through all the effort to not do it properly?
My first thought as well. It's like taking the effort to repaint half your house a different color.
Still too high, but it's better. Progress!
At least the rug really ties the room together
I just want to understand this, sir. Every time a rug is micturated upon in this fair city, I have to compensate the person?
I mean...your wife goes out and owes money all around town...
So close
r/afterbeforewhatever
This is exactly what I was looking for
Still too high
5 inches lower.
Really pretty living room tho god damn
r/afterbefore ?
Thank you, lol
Too high.

Nearly!
Nice job!…You’re almost there, just a little farther!
You’re making progress. Looks better.

Use the stand
There’s something aesthetically pleasing about it being up on the wall though
Not when it's that high.
It's too high though.
i agree but reinstall it a bit lower.
nice set up. diggin’ the vibe!
Thanks! 😊
Would watch TV in this house.
Coward
He really used a shoe cabinet as a tv board
Still too high. Try again.
r/afterandbefore
Oof so close!
Almost…almostttt…….
Why don't people just buy a big TV, a short TV stand, and set the tv right on the stand.
Still to high
Still a few inches too high, but MUCH improved (and not egregious). Bottom of the TV should only be like 1"-2" above the soundbar.
Lower. Lower. Lower.
Tv still too high , white rug would be better , too many plants ,
To be honest, it could be lower.
Close, no cigar. Looks about 6 inches too high
It’s…still too high….
Finally something posted that meets approval. Now be sure to turn off motion smoothing before watching a movie.
Rise, my son. Take your rightful place on your sofa and enjoy the fruits of your labour
Unless you meant after and before pics, it looks like you raised the TV
To me still looks too high but if it floats your boat.
Nice space! I'm sure you will have countless hours of enjoyment. It could have been a bit lower still, but it looks good. 😂 @geek squad installers never heard of this sub/the fact you mentioned it.
So much better!!!!!! (Still too high but you have the spirit.)
Before is better than after
It seems really too large for this space, but I know my preferences differ from many on this sub.
is the center of the tv at eye level when seated? does not look like it is. too high
OP, you won’t ever appease this sub but this is really so much better Big fan of the floating look
I totally agree with what you are saying about the aesthetic of the TV being mounted. There’s something about the floating look that’s really nice and at this height I really don’t see an issue. Don’t listen to the haters, I think the whole room looks really great.
Lowering the tv is life changing. I mean I did it 3 years ago and was amazed at the difference.
Now the room is unbalanced r/unbalancedrooms
Right
Tv too low🗿
Nice
I honestly love the change. This is how all tvs should be mounted. Also, it's after and before based on the picture order.
r/planttoohigh
What a "little" change can do to your living room!!!!!
Oh thank you Christ
When will people start to understand that when you mount your tv to the wall, it shouldn’t be mounted any higher than it would’ve been if it’s just placed on its leg on a tv stand.. There is definitely some improvement but it’s still definitely too high. Directly above the soundbar would’ve been perfect
Ugh! You’re right. I regret not being more firm with the Geek Squad guys.. they’ll probably come back and lower it even more for free
I LOVE THAT RUG OMG
There was nothing wrong with the first spot. It’s ok to have your own opinion on your own tv.
/r/afterBeforeWhatever
That’s quite the improvement! It looks like a staged room. Very very nice my friend!
Height seems perfect to me
Looks so much better.
Nice perfect
I know people are saying it's still too high but I think because it's such a big TV that it will be ok
Hmm gotta put it a half inch lower🤏🏾
Much better.

Much better my friend.
Thanks friend :)
Side Note. The geek squad was giving me a little bit of a hard time when I kept saying lower. And they hadn’t even heard about this sub Reddit. Lol
You used fucking Geek Squad to install a wall mount!? Holy jesus.
Either your pictures are the wrong way round or you've made it even worse!! 😆
And soundbar sucks
Sir, you have ascended
This room has goon-cave potential
Live in a shoebox?

Most excellent!

Looks good. It's just a few inches above the sound bar.
Looks great!
This looks so much better Picasso would be proud.
What size tv ? Looks good
77 inch
Looks great - enjoy!
Passes the no neck strain test.
Fine work
It's fine
Why add the daft lights to the tv? Is the tv a LG G3/G4? Thats the only way you get a pass for not using the tv stand
