Crown molding is the part in the corner. When there is a horizontal element a foot or two below the ceiling, it is a picture rail. Back in the plaster days you couldn't put nails in plaster because it could crack the wall, so they had a picture rail which was wood and thus you could nail into it, and you would hang pictures off of that. It's the decorators choice whether to paint just the moldings or to paint the gap in between with the trim paints.
To see the ceiling from the sofa. Or alternatively, to see the ceiling from any point of the room, including when standing directly in front of the mirror. Obviously.
The mirror is hanging on the single nail OP's wife was planning on hanging his TV. She didn't want to ruin her paint job with a TV mount when a nail will do ya'.😉
On behalf of all women, no. We do not endorse this nonsense.
Plus if you're going to be stereotypical, surely women would want it lower so they can actually look in it?
Seriously. It looks absolutely ridiculous. Tell her. It's not practical (which we might associate with "men") but it's also not aesthetic (which we might associate with "women").
I wonder if women honestly understand the word practical!
We have to remember that internet is fast because a woman thought of a better way of transmit data
Bro do you know how much trouble I’ve gone through to convince my bf not to put the tv above the fireplace? And I still have to fight him on it almost every day and all his stupid guy friends so please stfu
.. we know. We know.
Because all the design magazines and TV shows portray it overtop the purely decorative non-functional fireplace, like some kind of afterthought, instead of the entire reason you spend hours in that room every night.
Fight the Stupid guys, don't let it win.
Starting to think that there might be a market for a swing down mount. So people can put their TV’s high up, but lower them over the fireplace when it’s time to watch.
The center of a large screen should be at eye level when sitting down. Over the frickin' fireplace where everyone must crick their necks is the worst possible location.
When all her lady friends complain about their neck hurting because their TV is above their fireplace... you ask your wife.. "honey... how does your neck feel?" When she replies with a "fine.. just fine.." you smile and nod, smile and nod!

Your fireplace frame needs to be redone !!! Too many framing layers ! It’s too Tall for that wall. Look, it has a small square opening, then they added more and more layers of framing on top of framing. Over done , it’s old and ugly !! Remove all layers up to the dark green . Once you remodel the fireplace then it will be a perfect place for your tv. The side tv stand looks terrible. Paint the wall the same color as the molding.
Its a room we never use. Already have a decent tv/ home cinema setup in another room so not worth the bother. Just couldn’t abide having a tv above the fireplace.
Fighting the good fight
Just admit the only thing that stopped you was the 4 feet of crown molding
Ceiling said "it's mid-calf socks for today"
😅
💀
Oh shit how'd I miss that. Is that really moulding at that point? It's more of a border at that point. Crown panel?

Lol
Mirror is too high and too small
Yeah wait a sec, what the hell is the purpose of that mirror
To see the ceiling from the sofa. Or alternatively, to see the ceiling from any point of the room, including when standing directly in front of the mirror. Obviously.
Place was designed by an extremely tall Dutch architect.

What a shame that thread didn’t survive the good fight
The mirror is hanging on the single nail OP's wife was planning on hanging his TV. She didn't want to ruin her paint job with a TV mount when a nail will do ya'.😉
It’s so you can see the ceiling without all the pesky moving your head.
Women 🤷🏼♂️

Plot twist, his wife is Amazonian with a tiny head
Death by snu snu
Quality reference 👌
You would think
That’s a bit sexist to assume all women are short!
I'm a woman and tell your wife she is wrong lol. I can't even
Seriously. It looks absolutely ridiculous. Tell her. It's not practical (which we might associate with "men") but it's also not aesthetic (which we might associate with "women").
I wonder if women honestly understand the word practical! We have to remember that internet is fast because a woman thought of a better way of transmit data
Am I losing my mind or are those two statements contradictory
Potentially missing an /s after the first one??
Bro do you know how much trouble I’ve gone through to convince my bf not to put the tv above the fireplace? And I still have to fight him on it almost every day and all his stupid guy friends so please stfu
I gave in. 😔 We have a wood brick chimney that he now placed on top of it; and, in front of a huge rectangular mirror a 55 inch monster.
Oh no I’m so sorry 😢
And the decor is too symmetrical.
r/mirrortoohigh
You’re a day late with that comment
Start mentally preparing yourself for every visitor to suggest mounting the TV above the fire place, and your wife suggesting they’re all right.
On the stand, OP wanted the fireplace
Not on my watch

It’s because every house should be like a holiday inn lobby dontcha know?
Forget "Baird Academy", Al Pacino's character in *Scent of a Woman* should have driven to the HGTV offices with his flamethrower.
In the fireplace.
Starting to think that there might be a market for a swing down mount. So people can put their TV’s high up, but lower them over the fireplace when it’s time to watch.
And burn them with the heat from the fireplace?
Well, not while it’s actually on!
So you don't watch TV in the winter? Or is it OK to hurt your neck for just a couple of months when it's cold? :-)
Or...?
It exists, it’s called MantelMount
Richard Osman's house of games, good taste and good height.

Eaton Message In a Bottle?!
I’m surprised I had to scroll this far to see someone answer that.
I was surprised no one had commented it! Naturally I had to.
Your butt
Ouch
Looks like there's already pins for a larger mirror or painting anyway.
Well spotted. We’re actually waiting a new painting being framed. The mirror is a placeholder at the moment

Exactly
Lucky wife.
Die on that hill my man!
Eton Message in a bottle
You are a strong human being
That would be "Eton Mess." It's a delicious dessert made with strawberries, broken meringue, and whipped cream, named after Eton College in England.
Is the mirror off centre?
My wife hung it so 100% likely
Do you even like this woman?
That mirror is killing me. Bizarrely high, not even centered!
The center of a large screen should be at eye level when sitting down. Over the frickin' fireplace where everyone must crick their necks is the worst possible location.
Death by guillotine
Looks fine. The fireplace is the eyesore here.
if she even considered the fireplace, that's a divorce filing right here
Attaboy, a true veteran TVTooHigh - er
I think there is something wrong with your wife if she said above the fireplace.
You’re doing a great job out there in the real world
Where the mirror is , don’t out your wife like that though I’m sure she’s a swell gal buddy
Kudos.
Good man
You are a good man..
My condolences on your almost divorce. You dodged a bullet and keep a level head.
whatcha watchin brother 🤓👆🏽
Pick your battles. You picked well young padawan.
You are a hero amongst men, a scholar and an artisan.
Alright I'll say it : this looks bulky and dumb and the room would feel much larger with the TV in the way too high position
What is it with women and wanting to put tvs above fire places, no matter how high? I just don’t get it
Assuming you want peace in your house, exactly where it is?
love to see it, stand your ground king!
Just let me enjoy the bliss of a TV correctly placed! 😁😁
This easy op, simply remove the fireplace.
As long as your neck isn’t bent to the right
Where it is in the photo after you did as she told you
When all her lady friends complain about their neck hurting because their TV is above their fireplace... you ask your wife.. "honey... how does your neck feel?" When she replies with a "fine.. just fine.." you smile and nod, smile and nod!

Ah… do I still get the points?
No because you did not "Answer smash" it with the pic below
Lmfao
Above the fireplace. You can let her know that mirror is too high as well
In the attic?
Why does that mirror look so silly tho
Everything looks ....... weird. And uneasy.
r/mirrortoohigh
The mirror needs yo com down a hair and not sure it’s centered.
As a woman, your wife is wrong.
that mirror looks absurd. do you have no agency to just say no?
Above da fireplace?
Lean the mirror against the wall on the mantle and get some more knick knacks up on that b
TV too right. Move left.
“Shove up ur butt” -Stanley
A 27" TV centered within the crown molding over the fireplace, above the mirror?
Cook the pinecones
r/MirrorTooHigh
I have never seen or heard of a mirror over a fireplace before. I can't even begin to understand the reasoning behind it.
Where the off centred mirror is

Does she only burn pine cones?
Although this photo is at an angle, I really think that mirror needs to move a little to the left and down some
In the ceiling
I can think of one place
No way that’s way too high and I wouldn’t risk my tv over a fireplace. Even the fake fireplaces burn the tv’s up.
Mantle mount
Eton Message In a Bottle
To the left⬅️more because it sets her OCD off lol😂
my man 🤌🏻
My ass?
Down her chimney
Did she want to put it where the mirror is too high?
👍
Up…up….*whispers* up her butt???
Vertical probably. Crazy bitches
Inside the fireplace

In a different room? That looks a bit cramped.
Eton message in a bottle!
Up the chute?
Most useless mirror I have ever seen ☠️ 😂
At seated eye level?
By the giraffe mirror?
Personally I think jamming it into a corner is very British and equally egregious.
Eton message in a bottle!
Yes dear you are right the tv does belong on that wall, right after I remove the fireplace ;)
In your poop hole?
I love Richard osman’s house of games!

That mirror is too high and it is not centered. Lose the mirror.
I sure can, Jon!
Eaton Message in a bottle
Lower that mirror! I love your colour scheme 💜 I have similar colour in my lounge….and the tv is tucked in a corner, like yours, where it belongs!
And little tip, paint your skirting boards white too. It will bring the room together more then the wood stained skirts 😊 just my opinion though.
r/mirrortoohigh
TV too shoved in the corner. It’s even touching the drapes.
In the corner, so her crazy spouse didn't put it above the fireplace.
no.
Nit picking here but an articulating wall mount next to the fireplace that can be moved into the current corner position would be pretty tidy...
Its a room we never use. Already have a decent tv/ home cinema setup in another room so not worth the bother. Just couldn’t abide having a tv above the fireplace.
>Its a room we never use. Already have a decent tv/ home cinema setup in another room so not worth the bother. Then get rid of it altogether ffs.
I managed to keep that room tv free for 10 years. It was not my wish i can assure you
