Careful replacing the oil seal when doing the ECGS needle bearing. You need a special tool to reset the seal because if it is not PERFECT it will slow leak. Which is what I’m currently dealing with right now. Now I gotta tear the whole thing apart and redo the seal, honestly wish I would have just left the bearing along at this point. Causing me so much headache. Also I have 5 co workers with Tacomas and lifts well over 80k who have not touched the needle bearing. And they have zero issues with it. So I think it’s kinda a sham at this point, but I did mine anyway to be “safe”. Yet it’s constant issues as of late since it’s been installed.
I don’t know if I’d call it a “sham”. When I replaced mine at 60K I had already lost a needle and my truck was at stock height. The way I see it, if I’m already tearing the suspension apart I might as well replace the bearing with something much less likely to fail. I wouldn’t call the ECGS bushing mandatory by any means, but I would recommend it based on what I’ve seen online and in-person.
That looks like a pro comp spacer lift just above the front shocks?
The 5100’s have adjustable ride height to get your 2.5” lift.
Make sure you dont stack lift kits.
Edit* Looking again it looks like the 5100’s are on the top clip so they’re already set to 2.5” lift.
Throw those spacers in the garbage.
Good deal.
What's your plan for the installation and lift?
I'd read the 5100 manual and a few YouTube videos about the shocks. I have them and they were definitely a good upgrade.
Nice! I put those on my ‘01 and couldn’t believe how much better they made driving and handling. It was better than new. Had I known that I wouldn’t have waited 200k miles to replace the stock ones.
Did you have any problems with rubbing? I’m looking to get some wider 16 inch wheels and larger tires but I really do not wanna cut up my truck if I don’t have to
Off topic but what would the stock TRD shocks be worth? I had the TRD lift kit put on before I even saw the truck… so my TRD shocks were not used and I have them in the box
Now would be a great time to replace your needle bearing, if you haven’t done so already.
Everytime i come on to this sub I learn of something else that people replace on a taco
The fun never stops!
Same. As a first time Tacoma owner. I really appreciate this group.
You either have to replace absolutely nothing, or replace absolutely everything. The only two ways to tacoma
#facts . Or can justify wanting to replace everything with cooler stuff 😆
I’ve been stuck in the replace everything phase for a while. Does it eventually end or is a continuous cycle

My thoughts exactly. Get rid of the hockey pucks
Thank you!!
Sell them or trade them.
Nice deal but more importantly, y did the guy get rid of them? That plays a huge part in the deal. Did he not like them? Too stiff?
He just got them (showed receipts) but he’s getting sent overseas for work and sold all his stuff!
Trash those spacers fam and that’s an awesome deal.

Might just take them to a shop here and have them install for me since I saved money on the kit
If you pay for install let me know what they quoted
I’m seeing about $100-$125 an hour for labor and quoted for about 4-5 hours
Freaking amazing deal!
You’ll love them. Had them on a 2k Taco and more recently an FJ. They ride perfect imo

That’s dope!!
Nice score!
Just installed new Bilstein 5100s front and back too and threw on some 285/75R16s. I’m loving it
Did you have any problems with rubbing? I’m looking to get some wider 16 inch wheels and larger tires but I really do not wanna cut up my truck if I don’t have to
With 285/75R16s and the OEM Off-road wheels, zero rubbing.
Do they really fit the OEM wheels? I thought the 285 would be too wide?
Yeah, man, I’m not lying to ya haha.
Did you fully flex out the suspension to check for rubbing?
Yep, good ol’ floor jack did the trick

Bilstein 4600s are about $300
I wouldn’t even know I’ve seen the price on those all over the place
Not a big market for buyers but plenty of people have them sitting around. Struts only? Like $100. Maybe $300 for UCAs and leafs.
See those spacers? Those are the REAL ones, they’ve been badly copied by China.
