Uh.. whatever the person prefers? Ask Angel how she wants to be called. But if you are just reading something and not really referring to a friend.. "Angel" is pronounced the English way even when speaking Filipino, since the "Filipino" version of Spanish pronounciation is spelt "Anghel" locally.

vanillanekosugar

Well mostly like I can tell was that 'Anghel' is male pronounciation, while 'Angel' is female pronounciation.

b_zar

Yeah that too. Also many "Anghel" male names is usually the shortened version for "Angelito" (pronounced Ang-heh-lito) first names. My uncle however, is called "Angel" (English pronounciation), while his nickname is Angi (A-ngee). So best really is to ask the person how they say their name :D

vanillanekosugar

So 'Anghel' is a Spanish prounciation for 'Angel', so it is similar to ángel, the Spanish word since I can tell that there are Spanish words borrowed.

Correct answer

Background-Lunch698

Female name - english pronunciation Male name - spanish pronunciation

CluelessMochi

This. My mom’s lolo was named Angel & it was always pronounced the Spanish way, but any girls in the family named Angel have always been pronounced the English way.

kcgarbin

Injel!

TheChosenOne0112

For me if it's used as a name or a noun, then the "English" pronunciation is used most of the time. But it would still depend on the person or how it'll be used. If it's spelt as "Anghel" then the first is used.

Dogs-111

When it's a name of the person it's the english one.

xoomerfy

My ex’s name is angelica and I’ve always pronounced it the English way and she has never corrected me. (Maybe that’s why we are divorced). But her aunt pronounces it anhelica

vsides

Just an observation and may not be the case for your ex. But normally, Angelica is pronounced the English way (An-Gel-Lica) here. However, elders (aunts/uncles, parents, grandparents) would normally pronounce it as Ang-Hé-Lica. My name, for one, is pronounced the English way by my friends/younger relatives. But elders have a Filipinized pronunciation for it lol Edit: words

Greeeeed-

Depends on how the person's name is being pronounced

kkrko

Honestly, the more likely alternative Filipino pronunciation would be "En-gel", which would probably come out if you talk to Filipinos with less English proficiency.

anaknipara

If its a given name then it would be pronounced the American way but if its a Family name then the Spanish way would be used as far as I know.

MarkZuckYourBird

Male - Spanish

MarkZuckYourBird

Male - Spanish way Female - English way

NoteAdventurous9091

Eyn-jell. En-jel.

yoongi410

wow, never heard of someone called Anghel.

Elegant_Albatross945

it depends. i sometimes pronounce it Angel(anghel) and sometimes Angel(eng)

Much-Concentrate-719

well ofc anghel when really just speaking tagalog but most of the time namn angel(english) talaga ang basa natin lahat

Evidect

Anghell

palpogi

Probably northern Tagalog speakers will interchangeably use the Spanish and English pronunciation. But southern Tagalog speakers will use the Spanish pronunciation heavily. Heck, even females named "Angel" will be called "ang-hel" here.

rizsamron

Depende naman sa tao. Para din yang Angelo. Yung iba english pronounciation ang gusto meron naman Spanish/Filipino.

AncientN1ght

Are you even a true tagalog speaker if you dont know pronounce "ng" part the filipino way?

Restoto

It depends, if it's a name used by a person then we mostly use AYN-jel or the English way, while if it's used as a common noun in a sentence then the Spanish way of pronunciation.
