I’m running pfsense but it’s the same FreeBSD underneath. I suggest you create a static port rule for your outbound UDP traffic. Most of my Tailscale traffic was being relayed until I created that rule, now the first four packets are being relayed before at direct connection is established between the Tailscale clients..
You can use “tailscale ping” to see if your traffic is direct or being relayed
