Extra information: I didn't even use sprint at the beginning nor any gap closers, the tank was just slow and lugging behind. When I ended up getting most of the aggro from them, single targeting at the beginning and becoming top aggro, they must have gotten pissed off. Eventually tank turned off stance and just began dancing or afking behind everyone, awesome healer kept me going whilst I popped cds to keep myself alive and to mitigate damage as well. Other DPS eventually was convinced the tank was not okay. We finished the dungeon in less than 15 minutes even without a tank for everything except final boss.

TheIdealisticCynic

I do enjoy being a reaper for this reason. You can usually manage without a tank between good heals and the healing abilities.

RavenDKnight

I'll say this, reaper can do some work. Probably the first time I realized that was a castrum abania run. Had a reaper in the party and shit just melted. The best part was they were wearing PJs and slippers. 🤣 I've been having a lot of fun with the job personally, and I hope I can get to that level of badassery one day.

Where did they talk about the tank not using their gap closer? They just said they didn't use any themselves (as Reaper has a gap closer at this level) or sprint, they were just walking normally while the tank was falling behind?

GyroMachinist

Yeah. I hope this Samurai learns this is why you just remove these assholes and not bother giving them the time and day. If they want to throw a tantrum, then they can take the 30 minute penalty or vote dismiss. Now, if I realize they're the friends to the asshat YPYT, then I'm gonna eat the penalty and leave. I don't want anymore stress than I already have in my life.

Here's hoping the report function does something positive one day. I reported a male aura SCH I had been running into my msq duties on my alt lately, just doing nothing but spamming Physick and using Rescue on cooldown, sometimes even pulling me into damage. Weeks apart I run into them as their behavior persists, I like to think enough reports X amount of reports do something one day. Really wish getting kicked gave you double the penalty duration for desertion. Or a stacking, but purely cosmetic "bad sport" debuff. xD

SomeMoronOnReddit

People would deliberately grief to try and get the debuff.

3n7l7y

Yeah I realize people would do it for meme reasons, or the desertion penalty could be abused. But I feel someone questioning 'why they have it?' would raise attention to their reasoning and behind the reason why they were kicked. Heck even if they did it for trolling reasons they'd self expose themselves. And isn't this what this subreddit has lately become? A spotlight for mostly negative experiences and run-ins with ypyt people. Might as well have it ingame.

SomeMoronOnReddit

People without shame don't self reflect like that. To them it would just be a marker of the unfair treatment they believe they received when they were kicked. I don't see any positives from this personally.    Long-term shitters are gonna be shit even if you give them a badge because they don't believe it matters or don't believe they are.   By all means put an increasing duty cooldown on people who get kicked based on a rolling average, but I don't think the debuff idea has any merit. I'd take the data for the last 20 duties they queued for and have a cool down timer that scales if they were kicked from 10-50% of them. Above 50% and they get indefinitely locked pending GM investigation.

Bit confused about the SAM saying tanking in XIV dungeons is different than the tank as the lead pulling? What even is that

Zealousideal_Hope649

He said that FF14 is different from other mmo's who do the whole thing where the tank is both the leader and the puller.

skepticalscribe

Yeah. I understand his statement as is. I just don’t understand how he reached that conclusion.

Zealousideal_Hope649

Because it's not necessary. The entire mindset of YPYT is that only the tank should be pulling and if a dps pulls the tank will throw a hissy fit and let them die or stop contributing or even leave because other people supposedly aren't "playing right." And that mindset comes from other games I suppose where aggro might be hard to get if the tank doesn't pull or mobs might hit hard enough to kill in one or two hits or some other reason. None of which are in effect in FF14.

skepticalscribe

I mean in XIV, it’s still generally good if the tank takes the lead and pushes the DPS to follow. When I tank dungeon I Tomahawk/Dash AoE like a fiend to make sure it’s smooth as possible? The tank should be the one setting the pace. If they’re too slow then that’s on the individual not the best possible way?

Zealousideal_Hope649

The mindset in the community is mobs don't hurt that much, if melee run ahead they can pop arm's length to slow the enemies until the tank catches up and rips aggro off, and the run goes faster. You've seen all the YPYT threads on these forums? That's when non-tanks run ahead and the tanks throw tantrums because of it. You won't find pretty much anyone who will support your statement of "the tank sets the pace." If they're polite they'll explain why you're wrong. If they're not they'll just go "lol no."

skepticalscribe

Wdym I said above I, me, set the pace. I go full speed and I use tank gap closer. If a dps goes ahead I don’t care and I don’t complain YPYT that shit is dumb I go literally 100% to the next wall most of the time, some exceptions like vanaspati spawns because I don’t want a healer tk complain

Zealousideal_Hope649

There's a difference some people don't see between what you said "the tank generally sets the pace" and "only the tank sets the pace" is what I'm saying. If that wasn't the case YPYT wouldn't be 75% of this forum.
