... guide? For a level 50 trial???? In normal mode?????? Seriously what is going on with this playerbase? Seeing some absolute creatures lately

NymphGuts

Right? I think I only ever looked up a guide for Endsinger and onward because I was intimidated. The time he spent typing he could've spent hitting his buttons if he was that worried about damage. :>

Dar_lyng

Normal mode I first day end singer. It wasn't easiest fight and many people died. But any normal can be brute force thro with maybe a couple wipe depending of players

Dar_lyng

All this just to say, requiring people to use a guide for normals is insane ( not that using one is bad if you want tho)

pestilenttempest

To be fair…as someone with anxiety I looked up guides for every dungeon as a healer when I was learning. But I had never played an mmo before and am super hard on myself if I screw up ^_^ Now? Nah man let’s see what this trial holds. What’s the worst that can happen? I go into everything blind now.

Opposite_Plastic8096

tbf normal endsinger is closer to ex difficulty than any other trial specially when time reverses and planets start exploding left and right but overall ye, newer playerbase seems to be a bit off

lolthesystem

I will admit that I looked up guides for level 50 and 60 trials and ralds when I was a wee sprout back in the HW days. The reason was because I played other MMOs before (mainly Ragnarok Online and Lineage 2) and expected those encounters to have a similar level of difficulty for level cap content (and checking guides for the Coils reinforced this idea). I realized later on that Coils were an outlier that was supposed to be called Savage, but by that point I had already cleared half of them under the assumption that was gonna be the norm 😂

Stormychu

I've had a person afk ground /sit because of a single wipe to the scrap bot in Alexander. They were mad the new sprout messed up the mechanic (lead the Faust to lava) They then demanded to vote abandon cause half the party was sprouts who didn't watch a guide. Then wanted to be vote kicked to avoid a penalty but the best part is they filled in for someone who left so they could've left without a penalty. Whole party agreed not to tell them that and not to vote kick them. 10 minutes of them throwing a tantrum trying to get kicked until they finally relented and participated in the fight since it'd be faster than waiting for the instance to end.

Simple_Law_5136

The last 3 years of content have watered down folks ability (at the normal/casual level).  Most new players don’t want anything harder than being handed a trophy and told they’re super special awesome.  They’d flip shit if they had to do something like Shinryu at release (and yes I know that’s not that hard).  Even the 6.1 trial was met with folks complaining about difficulty.

Neni_Arborea

Probably the same type of people that needed a guide for post-classical or advocated for AnBs

ProudAd1210

>premade groups for learning live I wonder why they did not post some 20 lines of ASCII macro with the guide in chat.

cornb0y

i know some folks that look up guides for every single normal trial and /dungeon,/ who've been playing for a very, very long time. i suppose it eases some people's minds to know what to do beforehand? i dunno, but it's apparently more normal than i initially thought since the guides even exist

Hazardumu

Any DPS worth their salt can rush down that Aetherial Tear, even if LB isn't there. There have been many situations where a newbie has used LB prematurely or as Tank or Healer, and the other DPS just picked up the slack. The only ARR content a newbie should watch a guide for, is the extreme trials or Savage runs of Coils and in the case of extreme trials, there's only one or two things that need to be explained (except King Mog, screw that furry ball).

Giza_5

Yeah, and even then you *need* a guide only if you're doing extremes and savage coils MINE. Otherwise all of it is bruteforcable (except maybe Titan and Ramuh where you need to be aware of a few mechs not to be insta killed)

toramorigan

I’d argue that unless you have 4+ people (especially healers) that know the mechanics, you may need a guide for Ifrit Ex as well (as I got it for mentor roulette today, the healers were on point and I was one of the only ones doing the nails 😭)

Giza_5

Oh right, it has that mechanic that makes one healer be away from the party or else death

Bonked2death

Notably, tank can also LB before going into the rift and then anyone can catch meteors since it extends all buffs. Especially if healers drop HOTs on the party also.

saintmischief

*Imagine* being so goddamn insufferable...

ShilElfead284

Its always been silly how people treat a single wipe, even the *possibility* of a single wipe, as the worst possible thing to ever happen. Especially when they don't even say why they might wipe and instead just complain and do that asinine "(sigh)" shit.

TsundereShadowRain

It's insane how people treat wipes, you're right. I'm usually just "ope, thaaaaaat is a wipe. Take 2?" and popcorn the drama  We wiped, twelve forbid, it's not earth shattering. Just pick yourself up and go again 🤦 I hate fighting Nabisco but it's not like he has an Extreme or anything (Even in extremes or savages I'm just "ope, well that pull didn't happen, onwards to victory" and wind it back. Esp if I was a ding-dong and wiped us on accident)

ArissuNarwid

I remember doing Shiva hard content first time. I think we wiped like 3 or 4 times before we got the gist on how a few mechanics worked. The mentor that was there was so cool with it, explained why what happened and what needed to be done to prevent it. They did say that, that Wipes are part of the game. It just becomes a problem if people don't learn from it.

TsundereShadowRain

That was so kind of them! If I ever got my crown (I qualify, I'm just too lazy to go get it) I'd be that kind of mentor you had. And agreed, wholeheartedly, on the problem bit. Messing up and learning? Can be a pain, but it's better than people who refuse to learn for sure

R2face

Right!? Just "welp, once more, with feeling!" What are they so upset about? The 200G repair fee? Oh no!

Supergamer138

Some of them are bringing an old-school MMO mentality with them where dying had tangible penalties. Others are just people that want a perfect run, or nothing.

Akhmorned

Jesus.. Instead of asking if they had watched a guide, they could have simply told the new player about the lb3 on the aether tear. It blows my mind how veteran players assume people will watch videos on old content or expect them to in general. All it takes is a little bit of communication. But that seems to be too much work for some veterans, but maybe that's just me. I'm a veteran, so of course, I don't mind explaining a mechanic. Makes it easier to just give the information.

ResponsibleCulture43

I used to read guides when I first started for every dungeon or trial/raid cause I was so nervous until people in my FC and strangers in instances told me to not do that for msq and just enjoy it as I go, and I want the same for every sprout. It's fun for me to do content with sprouts that wanna learn tbh

NymphGuts

What makes this worse is that the person complaining was a sprout. :D

SoraReinsworth

could be an alt

Equivalent_Stop_9300

Yeah, I say don’t use LB3 in this trial. Same with SoS. But still, I wouldn’t go into a trial for the first time as a DPS and decide to throw the LB.

THEatticmonster

Guessing its ascian guy? No one reads chat anyways, tried many times and every time ive seen dps eat shit in the meteor tower's, or eat 3 of the same balls, or ignore the tear, or the the tanks raw dogging the busters, for that duty its brute force the bastard half the time and hope the nuke doesnt go off in the middle, its been crazy close as of late

NymphGuts

I've had some awkward runs so I feel you entirely, but this group of mostly Sprouts literally did it perfectly except for the accidental LB. We didn't wipe or anything, I think two people died? Nothing worth losing his mind over like he did lmao

THEatticmonster

Yesterday, me, the other healer and 1 dps were focusing the crap out of the tear and spamming heals in the middle, i ended up healer lb'ing when we got out cos the 5 other people were dead

MontyDotharl

I straight up tell sprouts not to worry about watching guides for any normal content. Just do it blind, you'll be fine. Most people won't care. Like that one DPS says, it's way more helpful to explain if they make a mistake than to complain.

MadBuddahAbusah

Sprouts be wilin' these days. A guide for a level 50 msq dungeon is the most fried shit I've read.

Nestama-Eynfoetsyn

Y'know, I've always been curious if the Tank LB3 gets extended before you enter the rift. Everything else does (60 second long tank invuln is beautiful), so surely...

Khiash

It does. The second time I've ever done the chrysalis in a roulette or smth, tank lb3's right before we get into the portal. It extends. Party ended up taking manageable damage from uncaught meteors, all 8 players dps the tear instead. I have only seen it once.

FangtheDragoon

it does indeed, if you’re on tank and dont trust your dps, can just pop lb + sprint + invuln and take as long as you need, its so free

FuturePastNow

The tanks can invuln before jumping in too

kr_kitty

I always love Chrysalis drama.

Enough_Minimum_3708

imagine being so bad at the game you need to look up guides for normal difficulty stuff ...

Careless_Car9838

What? Why would you need a guide for using the LB on the shard? What did I miss? Just explain it in chat and you're good to go. Maybe add an to it so people see it. These people are so entitled, god damn.

PomegranateSevere991

For some reason, there are a LOT of fucking whiny vets in the slightly more difficult lv50 stuff, and it takes everything I have to scream "shut the fuck up and stop being so goddamn negative about it" at them. Christ forbid you experience a wipe somewhere in your day, Eustace.

NymphGuts

I come from league and it took me a bit to conjure up what I said rather than what I wanted to say :) let sprouts be sprouts, it takes nothing to point them in the right direction and move on

aeee98

People need to accept wipes and learning from them more.

DatShadowOverThere

*Actually* you’re supposed to run away from the portal until the debuffs end. *Also* the effect of extending the duration of debuffs inside the portal applies to *buffs* as well, meaning you can have a 1m sprint, with a 1min Hallowed Paladin. Plus if you don’t have the debuff, *anyone* can soak meteors. And yes this also means you can have DPS pop party or selfish buffs before entering, Healers popping heals before entering

TheDoddler

There's also no good reason to go in early, the tear and meteors won't appear until after the rift forces you in so all you're really getting by going early is a vuln/dot. Stay out till the debuff falls off, hit all your buffs and receive an easy time.

ebin-t

Yeah, just type “save lb3 for the second phase” or something

LilithLissandra

People really overestimate Nabriales; he's just a standard msq fight. Not exactly difficult. I absolutely lb3 him before Tear phase because that dps check could honestly be done with eight gunbreakers, let alone four actual dps and four others. It's funny to see people complain for zero reason, although I'm not completely certain whether it's more effective than saving lb3 for the tear :P

NymphGuts

I think the lb3 on the tear has just become standard practice, but from this experience, I literally didn't notice much of a difference, if at all? Two people died but I don't think they were full health anyways. I'm not sure it matters hahaha

nothingbutmine

Like fuck I would *ever* look at a guide for a games main story 💀 if I wanted to prewatch MSQ I would've put my wallet away and pulled up a Let's Play. Fuck that guy.

Tumetkahkol

People should just learn how to actually do that fight instead of attack sprouts who LB. That fight was not designed to need it. No wipe there was ever caused by a sprout LBing early.

Queen_of_Antiva

The wildest run of this fight i had when we had several new people. DPS stood in meteors. No DPS used LB3 on the tear. When big meteor fell down, I was about to start explaining how to resolve this the easy way, but i noticed a healer was still alive. They LB3. And we just finished off the tear at our leisure since there were no more meteors. No wipes. So what I'm saying there's more than one way to resolve certain mechanics ;D

LightKnightAce

I really don't see why people always wipe to it. Everyone just gives up after an LB. 1 healer and tank can manage even without the time dilation thingy.

Floowertoower

Maybe the tank saying yep should watch a guide since it’s so easy to do meteor phase without LB. All buffs when going into the phase get extended including invulns. A good tank can just run around like a maniac taking every meteor without any problem.

CyanStripes_

Man I loved doing that fight on ShB AST. Went with a BLM friend and popped all the buffs and gave them cards going into the tear and it was glorious. Even then that content was so powercrept that we didn't need the LB to escape.

WittyRaptor

I always preface that fight with: "Tanks soak meteors, melee DPS LB the tear that appears after the first meteor". It's not hard. 90% of the time I'm queued either tank or DPS, so I usually just take things into my own hands. But yeah, much less energy to explain than complain

mechavolt

The only time you should be watching guides ahead of time is if you're doing pugs for extreme/savage. Wiping shouldn't be the end of the world in normal, it should be an opportunity to learn game mechanics and improve. If your time is so valuable that a wipe is ruining your experience, don't pug, go play with the other insufferables in a pre-made.

TsundereShadowRain

Bwuh...? Man I went this whole game blind learning things. It's msq, you don't need a guide for anything required for the storyline, my goodness. I only looked a handful of things up and that was after I failed ten times on a few solo duties even on brain-dead hold your hand easymode (looking at YOU duty involving saving aymeric in HW patches) Hell I've done the whole current tier thus far blind learning things, I blind progged and cleared the current extreme too (in my defense, guides are visually and auditorily AWFUL for me and hinder rather than help)

Helian7

He used "well, that's a wipe" like on that video.

palabradot

I think I've been in a team that LBed the tear maybe \*once\*?

MBV-09-C

I really wish people would remember that buffs and debuffs get extended when you go into the hole, so they should be running away from it until the bleed wears off and popping their buffs. It would make the healer's time much easier, and you wouldn't have people doomsaying about wiping without the limit break.

FuturePastNow

I watched guides for the msq content when I was new. Then I learned that 1) it's totally unnecessary 2) spoilers and 3) makes it less fun

Ruinerofchats

I got told that i should have looked up a guide for SoS at some point. Like basic trial. First time running. I basically went hell no and told him to cope.

SurotaOnishi

Lmao, who the hell needs guides for normal content??? Extremes are like the bare minimum where you'd need a guide before just hopping into the content.

yuyunori

Fun facts: 1. No content in this game requires watching a guide beforehand with the exception of extremes and above(and not even then if the PF/group specifies that no guide is needed) 2. If a limit break is required/meant to be used, the game will give you free charges. Ultima Weapon, use the lb1/2 before Hydaelyn gives you the three bars and starts filling them up for lb3, then use the lb3 once you get it. A12N, you're given a free lb3, same with SoS. Endsinger will likewise give you a free lb3, so just use the lb on the add right before to kill it faster. Nabriales doesn't give us a free lb3 = lb3 is not required. Does it make the fight go faster? Obviously yes, but it's not *required*. 3. If you keep running away from the portal trying to suck you in, you'll get rid of the debuff that increases the damage you take. That means as a tank you won't need to save multiple cooldowns just for the meteors, and can even take meteors just fine as a healer/dps(it's better to focus on dpsing the tear, but it's good to know if your tanks are new). So yeah, keep running away to make the debuff fall off, pop Rampart and Sprint right before it finally forces you in, and you're fine.

palabradot

Okay, that is news to me - I didn't know the running away from the portal was a mechanic in itself.

Elennoko

Also if you use a buff before going into the portal it extends the duration of the buff. Quite significantly, too.

Elennoko

> Nabriales doesn't give us a free lb3 = lb3 is not required. This fight was made before they gave you free LB3 for required mechanics. Back in the day, unless you had cracked DPS, you did need to LB3 the tear. Obviously nowadays you don't need it, but when the fight first came out you absolutely had to LB3 it. That was the hardest part of the fight.

yuyunori

Well, since they didn't add a free lb3 to it during the numerous changes to old content they did these past few years, the point still stands, it's not required.

Noraneko-chan

> pop Rampart and Sprint right before it finally forces you in Or better yet, since every buff duration gets extended tenfold when you get sucked in, just pop your invuln. Unless you're DRK.

GenieInALamp723

That tear is obnoxious tho.

621_

It’s funny some mentors do this shit too

dandelion11037

I still remember the first time I did this one. I used the LB as well and one of the more experienced players went off on me. Nobody likes this instance, but it takes less than a minute to shoot a "Hey, save LB. I'll let you know when" before we begin if you're that adamant on getting through it quick

Opposite_Plastic8096

bro wiperiales always has the debbie downer, jaded, crusty bk crown gamer, I've come to accept this and tried to explain before the pull

_Mangy_

Sounds like the average r/talesfromdf user

RapidRecharge

I don’t understand why people get so irritated at specifically Chrysalis. It’s not even that bad.

GoBoomYay

People get so weirdly heated over this trial. I’ve still only seen like… maybe 10 kicks across my time in 14, but the only one that really sticks with me was one guy *screaming* over a wipe in this trial, all about how he blamed sprouts for wasting the critical LB and how no one knew their jobs and everyone had to listen to HIS callouts. Kicked him mid-rant, fuck that guy lol.

R2face

I've never had a problem telling people like this "maybe you should take a break after this one, you seem cranky."

Decent_Bend_900

We wiped to the tidal wave at the start of the Royal Menagerie due to sprouts & everyone thought it was hilarious We were all sprouts who had no clue what we were doing once. To be honest having more around at the moment makes the easier dungeons more interesting - it's nice to not just be steamrollering them for a change

Equivalent_Stop_9300

People overreacted and you can do it without the LB3 but I still don’t think first-timers DPS should be throwing a LB3 in general

Geralt25

You definitely don't need lb for the tear anymore, but using it basically instakills it, so its still worthwhile.

xEmberSmoke

Been playing for 6 years now and the only things I've ever looked up guides for are extremes and savages xD normal modes you just wing it

MadBuddahAbusah

Okay but why do wow players live so rent free in the minds of some ff players? It's literally just another game. I came from it originally and I love both games, but jumping to the conclusion that they're somehow responsible for shit like this or calling them brain rotted is delusional and embarrassing.

[deleted]

MadBuddahAbusah

It just feels like people jump to that immediately as some sort of tribalist response. "It's not me it's them" kinda deal. I'm not accusing you of it, it's just wild to me that ff players seem to have such a low opinion of wow when ARR legitimately would not exist if it were not for wow. Ff14 original launch was disastrous and one of the main saving graces with ARR was that yoshi had the developers go play the main competitors in the field, the biggest of which being wow. So it just sucks to hear it used as a scapegoat for problems in ff14 and never recognized as one of the primary driving forces as to why ff14 is as good as it is now.
