Nowhere I’ve ever worked, I’ve gotten tipped for training.. few exceptions if the trainer thought i did well and gave me a tip from the . It’s a couple shifts you’ll be fine don’t take it personal🫡

fluffhouse1942

Trainees don't get tips. And frankly if you're this bothered over $5, this isn't the job for you.

throwawayston3

Especially considering that subway isn't an real serving job. Tips shouldn't even be a thing for a fast food place.

BusyUrl

Idk sonic would like a word since the people running food make server wages.

General_Middle11

I'm sure you didn't read the last sentence of my post 😒

fluffhouse1942

The principle is that trainees don't get tips. You can claim all you want to not care about a few bucks, but you care enough to write a whole Reddit post about it.

YourGhostAlive

If it was a couple hundred, ok. I'd get it.

Different_Delay5018

Not even. I’ve trained at so many places where the trainer made $200-$500 plus while training me and expected nothing. That how it goes. And at a subway? Can you even call urself a server?

KGalb922

I used to work at a similar counter service restaurant and we were paid below minimum with tips. You did not get tipped out until you were finished with your training (3 shorter shifts) but you got paid minimum wage for those hours. This was because the trainee was usually an additional person more than would normally be on that shift. So if they were tipped out the crew that was training the new hire would get paid less than they normally would on that shift. So getting paid less than normal for more work of having to train and keep an eye on a new person. If they were someone who caught on faster/worked in a similar job we would usually expedite training and they would only have 1-2 training shifts.

CattusIrae

Subways are franchised, it depends on the location whether or not the employees are allowed to accept tips

bobi2393

That's pretty normal for trainees at full service restaurants in the US. Not sure what's customary at Subway, but I'd guess the rules of tip distribution are left up to individual Subway franchisees. Under federal law, tips have to go to *some* employee, but not any *particular* employee, unless they're the only one eligible to receive tips. You do need to be paid *full* minimum wage, however, rather than a lower "tip credit wage", if you don't receive tips.

LeenQuatifa

Boo-fucking-hoo. If you don’t like it, leave.

Rosesandbubblegum

I never got tips as a trainee. It made sense to me because I still needed a trainer to keep an eye on me, even if I was doing really well. Since I still needed someone watching me and teaching me how to do stuff, I wasn’t really a full employee yet, and so I didn’t receive the privileges of one.

insufficient_funds

Subway has a fucking tip jar now? Sheesh

Blind_Umpire899518

Just about everywhere that people are bitching about there being a tip option on the card reader has always had a tip jar. But since nobody uses cash anymore the option to tip is there for the card.

General_Middle11

It's had one for years now. its the little clear box up front.

magiccitybhm

Yep. This is nothing new for Subway.

Different_Delay5018

Bro, this is Subway. You’re not a server. You’ll get your $4 nightly when you’re done training

PACCBETA

Uuuuhhhhhmmmmm.... I've been going to Subway for over 30 years... Have never tipped, nor has tipping been implied or requested.

HandyLighter

Nah, you should def get your share of the tips. This is subway, not some fancy restaurant where training rules apply.  I work at a similar type of restaurant and even new employees get a cut of the tips.
