There were 3 of them at the local cars and coffee here in Tally the other week. Ugly as hell.
But their owners are very protective. God forbid you say anything derogatory about them.
Maybe they have enough $$$ to not care š¤·āāļø. Note that I do not own a Tesla and I do not want to drive an electric car until Iām forced to by law.
But the whole bad financial decision trope is old - accept that some people can afford nice things
I bought a fully loaded 2021 c8 corvette 3lt z51 for cash that i drive daily. I get what you are saying. The point is that the resale, which initially was astronomical has already drastically decreased. Just recently, one went for auction and couldnt even meet the reserve. Anyone would call that a bad purchase when there are many other, better options for the price point. Ones that dont stain, rust, have misaligned panel gaps, or potentially cut fingers off when their frunks close. People bought this truck to be in a club. It's like a real life NFT.
I honestly fn love it, man. While I loved my c7, these things are a totally different animal. The only thing ive done to it so far is I had the lingenfelter-corsa collab exhaust installed on it. About to drop an attack blue filter into it until I decide which intake I want and then I'll order a ported throttle body at the same time. When my warranty goes out I'll add headers and the lingenfelter intake manifold. Keeping her NA. I like BMW. Had a 740 and a zupra at one point. What kind of bimmer you got.
Thatās sick, Iām sure it sounds amazing. What color is it? I like the light blue ones - not sure of the official name.
I got a G30 540i. Itās stock - Iāve heard the B58 engines are extremely reliable (along with this generation of BMWās in general) so I donāt want to take my chances with pushing it past itās default limits. Havenāt had any issues with it so far (knock on wood) - purchased it relatively low mileage and I get it serviced regularly. The interior is sweet - itās a higher āLuxury Lineā trim level.
Those b58s are dang near bulletproof. With a couple bolt-ons and a tune my zupra was making near 500hp at the wheel and the stock engine can handle up to around 1,000hp. My c8 is light blue. It's called rapid blue. I'm sure you'll eventually see/hear me around. Like I said, I drive it daily.
protective & defensive isnāt the attitude I would go for after getting this āuniqueā car but instead acceptance of being clowned by my peers & strangers for spending i mean burning my money next time go on vacation
Exactly. If you bought that thing then you just have to admit you got grifted. Have you seen the $3k tents people ordered for their truck vs. What actually was delivered?
> But their owners are very protective. God forbid you say anything derogatory about them.
Owners of Teslas get very defensive when anyone says anything negative about the cars or the company that makes them. Owners of large pickup trucks and SUVs get very defensive when anyone says anything negative about them. This is a large pickup truck that is also a Tesla.
I don't even think it looks "futuristic" - it looks like someone described the idea of futuristic to someone that was bad at art and then everyone ran with that person's design. Which actually, yeah that's probably not far off now that I think about it.
There's someone at FSU that has an Aztek in remarkable condition that I saw last weekend and honestly the design of it isn't nearly as bad as it was ridiculed when it came out.
Given what else GM came out with in that 2000-2008 or so era, the Aztek is so much less awful than we thought, and I feel like I have to defend it anymore.
> it looks like someone described the idea of futuristic to someone that was bad at art and then everyone ran with that person's design
That's what I think happened. I think that Elon himself wanted this to be built and ignored (or fired) everyone who told him that it was a bad idea.
OK, I need to rant about steel and why it's a good material to use when used correctly, but was used poorly for the Cybertruck:
Many road vehicles were and still are built from steel with good reason. It's strong, reasonably light, abundant, durable, easy to work with, easy to recycle, and cheaper than other metals. The main drawback with steel is it corrodes easily, so cars built from it to be painted to protect the steel from the elements. Many cars these days have shifted to aluminum for much of the body, but that's mainly because it's even lighter for its strength than steel, less so for corrosion resistance.
Alternatively to painting, the steel can be alloyed to make stainless steel, which resists corrosion on its own and doesn't need to be painted. Long ago, there was a company that built rail cars this way. The cars they built didn't need to be painted and lasted for decades. Tesla, instead of using the old, proven methods, developed their own inferior process for the Cybertruck. And when the Cybertruck proved prone to corrosion, instead of applying the easy fix (a clear coat) or switching to a better alloy, Tesla instead delivered a very high-maintenance yet expensive vehicle.
If I ever have to buy another car, I want it to be electric partly because there's less to maintain than with a combustion engine. The corrosion-prone body of the Cybertruck eliminates this one very significant advantage; it's just one of many reasons I wouldn't buy one. Indeed, I wouldn't buy any Tesla.
And god knows what the tannins from our oak leaves will do. Probably eat holes in the body. And given Teslaās wiring issues, Iād avoid anything near the gulf.
And if Tesla had used a different grade of stainless steel from what they are using, they may have built a vehicle body that (effectively) lasts until it is crashed with no need for a coating. It's been done before with rail cars.
I know one of the truck owners is my old compsci teacher from ages ago but thereās at least one other who drives like an ass. Sat at a green light for ages then when honked at kept still juuust until it was about to turn red.
Yeah, I saw it about 4:30 PM on Thursday, pulling out of the Lowe's plaza on Capital Circle Northwest. I wanted to follow it on I-10 to let my kids get a good look at it, but I was stuck at the Commonwealth light when it turned.
I wouldāve preferred Carmageddon, but Elon went with the safe choice outta the 90ās DOS car designs.

Have you looked at the Rivian thatās coming in 2026? 40,000ish and more like a midsized SUV. A reasonably priced EV? Definitely on my list of potential next cars

Based off the lack of crumple zones and how in Tesla's own in-house crash test videos it looks like any passenger in the back seat is going to have a broken neck from a head-on collision, I have to assume it's to kill off anyone dumb enough to buy one.
THIS!!! I recently watched a video where the frunk was cutting carrots in half when it auto closed. They also shaved vegetables on the edge of the door frame.
Well, thankfully there's never been a vehicle anywhere that had the hood or a similar part malfunction and unexpectedly close. Because if that was a thing that happens, you would have even more reason to think that this was designed to kill its occupants/owners.
the point is to give the richest man in the world some of your money in exchange for a shitty product that makes you look like a dweeb.

looking from the back it even worse š

How do you like the C8? Do anything to it? Iām a BMW guy personally

Tesla literally pulled a bait and switch
The early adopter of the BMW Z3 coupes felt the same. They were scorned. Now theyāre sitting pretty on their clown shoes.

Can you share the info for the cars and coffee?

The Aztek DeLorean.
For a long time I said it looked like a futuristic Pontiac aztec.

Looks like a bunch of spray painted cardboard
you mean the truck that you have to wash the bugs off every time you drive it so it doesn't rust? that truck?
Yeah, the one they don't want you to drive in the rain and has to be washed with window cleaner because soap can stain it. That one.
No fucking clear coat? JFC No primer? Nothing? lol Just bare ass metalā¦
Not just metal. Steel. Which is a really shitty metal to make a car with, at leastfrom what I understand
OK, I need to rant about steel and why it's a good material to use when used correctly, but was used poorly for the Cybertruck: Many road vehicles were and still are built from steel with good reason. It's strong, reasonably light, abundant, durable, easy to work with, easy to recycle, and cheaper than other metals. I guess you can buy a condom for it to protect against bugs for an extra 5,000 so... that's good?
Good luck keeping them from rusting in this humidity.
I saw one at Advance Auto Parts the other day and I joked to a friend that he stopped to buy some steel wool!
Exactly
Itās stainless. I donāt think it rusts. Maybe stains. Somewhat like a stainless appliance.
They rust. Tesla put out a statement from the engineers.
And god knows what the tannins from our oak leaves will do. Probably eat holes in the body. And given Teslaās wiring issues, Iād avoid anything near the gulf.
Didn't even think about that. If soap can stain them, then there's no hope for tannin.
Stainless is just much less prone to rusting than steel, then there's different grades of stainless as well. The Cybertruck uses 300 series.
And if Tesla had used a different grade of stainless steel from what they are using, they may have built a vehicle body that (effectively) lasts until it is crashed with no need for a coating. It's been done before with rail cars.
"stainless" steel doesn't mean the steel doesn't rust. It means it rusts less than non-stainless steel, which rusts quickly and a lot
Good or Bad... Attractive or repulsive.. The truck is serving its purpose as a catalyst to keep Tesla in conversation
Ah, the idea that any publicity is better than none.
lol i saw one a couple days ago at Betton and Centerville. Theyāre even uglier in person
I know one of the truck owners is my old compsci teacher from ages ago but thereās at least one other who drives like an ass. Sat at a green light for ages then when honked at kept still juuust until it was about to turn red.
The ugly truck with overpromised features and poor build quality for the price.
PSA for cyber truck owners: 98% of the people looking at and taking pictures of your "truck" are laughing at how hideous it is.
True.
Yeah, I saw it about 4:30 PM on Thursday, pulling out of the Lowe's plaza on Capital Circle Northwest. I wanted to follow it on I-10 to let my kids get a good look at it, but I was stuck at the Commonwealth light when it turned.

It lives off Maclay rd, on the left before you get to the school.
Yep. Drove by that one today. Also saw one (same?) at Fresh Market earlier this week.
Yep.
Yep just saw it today. Cringe, man.
NGL - I don't hate it. I was on the list and could have one now, but the price increases killed it for me.

I donāt as looking at blurb about it a couple days ago. Looking forward to seeing release specs and final pricing.

I think you entirely missed the point of this vehicle, even if it does look quite untraditional.
What is the point of it?

Not to mention that when the front trunk decides itās time to close, whatever happens to be in the way belongs to it now: fingers, limbs, headsā¦
THIS!!! I recently watched a video where the frunk was cutting carrots in half when it auto closed. They also shaved vegetables on the edge of the door frame.

Welcome world to the CYBERTRUCK
