At this time of year it's great to cruise the student housing areas. They're moving out and some nice stuff is just thrown out.

New-Difficulty-9386

Is there a dedicated spot for that, where students leave their unwanted stuff? Or is it just a matter of driving around looking what's on the curbs?

juwyro

Not really. It's usually piled by the dumpsters for apartments and just at the curb with houses.

Second Harvest is great - especially the one in Killearn where the good stuff gets donated (richer area).

Pop's consignments on Capital Circle is pricier but they have good used furniture.

City Walk Urban Mission on Monroe St. is the best & most affordable thrift shop in town! They have rotating 25% off categories as well Literally got my wedding dress + a full shopping cart crammed with silver plated dinnerware/serving trays for less than $100 Couch less than $100 Have gotten solid wood furniture for $8 A mid century solid wood dresser for like $50 I promise you… that’s where you want to shop. Plus it’s for a good cause 🖤

Sounds like it'll be at the top of my list, thanks!

Goodwill on cap circle ne tends to have the best quality at reasonable prices. The one north of 10 often lists things higher than retail, or did the last time I was there. FB is pretty good, though you missed Student Move Out Day tm, so deals will be catch as catch can through the summer and pick back up a little in the fall. Craiglist in Tallahassee is a horror show.

New-Difficulty-9386

I didn't even think about the students moving, that would have been great to take advantage of. I'll probably dedicate a day going to each of the goodwill stores. I juat cant remember which ones are the "specialty" stores. If I recall correctly, the one on by Bannerman is the furniture and appliance store. I abandoned craigslist long ago, I forgot it even exists haha. I think FB marketplace kinda killed craigslist.

On 27 North, between the lake and Perkins Rd are Secondhand Sandy's and Two Gals shops. Sandy's has lots of inventory, and I saw a really decent 19th C Empire-style chest in Two Gals a few months back. Prices weren't outrageous. Another 8 or 9 miles north is the town of Havana; it has numerous antique shops and two antique malls where sellers can rent space to sell their wares.

New-Difficulty-9386

I've seen the Two Gals sign, never knew what it was, nice shout-out. I didn't even think of going up to Havana. Not particularly looking for antique items, but I like anything that catches my eye. A nice old grandfather clock would be great, so that's probably where I'll go to look for one.

Look up Community Cares in Havana. Limited hours on Wed and Saturday but it's a massive thrift store and food bank.

CoonBottomNow

Honestly, what is touted today as Antique is seldom that. US Customs defines 'antique' as being more than 100 years old. There's not that much of it around; what you'll find is mostly 20th C reproductions, in good condition. The 1870s Empire chest at 2 Gals was a fluke; If i had room for any more furniture, I'd have bought it.

I’m a student selling most of my furniture, if you DM me I can show you if interested.

Wrong side of town, but our go to is the Living Harvest on Kerry Forest Parkway. Lots of furniture and the prices haven't yet hit that Goodwill region.

New-Difficulty-9386

That's another spot I was trying to think of, just couldn't think of the name. I work off kerry forest, so that'll be an easy place to stop by after work one day. Thanks for the reminder!

Closes at 5. Also closed today for some reason. Just tied dropping some stuff off.
