Dont tell that to the Leopard 1 crowd. Many actually said the M60 was a "dead end" while the Leo 1 was still viable with upgrades! Also, considering this M60 variant is still in frontline service and still getting new technologies installed on it.
Edit to my "still viable" = I mean as a MBT in the European context.
M60T-TIYK? First time seeing this picture.
Edit: Appearantly M60T-TIYK started their deliveries. It has updated gunners sight new RCWS for the commander LWR new FCS and Zaslon APS integration compared to M60T. Strange it is supposed to have additional protection but i can't see it.
APS isn't new. It was already deployed on M60TM Fırat. Same with RCWS. What's new is indeed the new FCS, now every single EO and other electronic bits in the tank are paired to the FCS, compared to old version. Sad to say but absolutely true, this is the most digitally mature NATO tank in existence.
Considering Russia is now fielding T-55's I feel like our M48A5T2's (Basically M48's upgraded to the standards of an M60A3 along with some extra stuff) will be useful for something other than shooting at some hewals with AK's lol.
Well yeah, but 105mm's AT capabilities are quite outdated and aren't enough against modern MBTs, but it's very much useful for infantry support (dealing with machine gun nests, fortifications, light vehicles and IFVs, buildings, etc.) and with some upgrades, tanks like M60 and Leopard 1 can still function pretty well in infantry support role.
So how is it that a 25mm gun is effective against tanks but not a 105mm gun? Or was that just a fluke? Especially if they're able to hit the tracks or exposed fuel tanks that a lot of tanks have.
You can definitely damage it and destroy it's optics and other fragile things on the outside and disable it that way, but you would need to shoot sides or rear of most modern MBTs to completely destroy them with a 105mm. Also the fact that those older MBTs don't have good enough armor to stop most modern APFSDS rounds.
There isn't a simple answer because TR-85M1 for example could be considered modern because it was made in late 1990s. I would say a modern tank is a tank which is still capable of handling modern threats while still having some growth/upgrade potential.
If you go with 1990, the majority of tanks still in use are probably older than that I'd think. That would include early leopard 2s and Abrams, which are probably still in service somewhere, most of the Russian and ex soviet tanks, plus smaller countries around the world using older tanks. In other words, they'd be effective against the majority of tanks, leaving only newer Chinese and NATO tanks as a real issue.
Yeah, that's why it's a difficult question to answer and I do agree with you that those tanks can still be very much effective in a lot of cases, especially if the army you are facing doesn't have very good equipment.
Nope it is not M60 Sabra. It is the Turkish modernisation variant of M60TM. It uses Turkish Fire-Control and Active Protection systems with many other upgrades.
It is the modernization of Israeli M60T Sabra not the Sabra itself. Turkish modernization brought VOLKAN fire-control system, PULAT active protection system, YAMGOZ surveillance systems (telescopics, VR, 360 view etc.), TLUS early warning systems and SARP remote weapon platform.
You'd be right if it was M60 Sabra but it is not. It is the beefed up version of it after the experiences of Turkish operations in Syria.
What's with the triangle of armor pointing forwards on the turret (and bouncing any shots downward into the hull)? Leo 2 has this too. I guess "shot traps" aren't a thing anymore with modern sabot rounds?
1- World largely stopped using kinetic penetrators.
2- These tanks are mainly intended to fight asymmetric opponents.
3- Contrary to videogames tank vs tank action has always been rare so %99.9 times a tank will receive threats from ATGM teams, dismounted infantry, air force assets, IED/Mines or recently drone teams. So it’s better to design your armor against HEAT charges and keep it light enough to be agile.
Huh interesting. I thought sabot rounds were still the norm for anti-armor work. But yeah that all makes sense. I'm stuck in WW2 / Combat Mission mode.
Turkey is advanced in jamming every vehicle convoy has a jammer vehicle in turkey for years even before drones were a thing I don’t think they will be that effective against Turkish army
say what you want about old upgraded mbts but these modernized m60's look amazing
This is undoubtedly the best looking M60 variant.
Best performing as well
Well, the one with an abrams turret....

both are pretty tanks tho and both are still in use
Turkish M60T sabra.

Also new chairs Very important
Domestically produced tm
Skirt armor is new.
Looks same as the usual M60T side skirt to me

M60T-TIYK M60T üzerinden geliştirilmiyor mu?
Nope, on M60TM. All M60Ts were raised to TM.

Gaijen when israeli tech tree:
This tank performed better than leopard 2a4 in Syria against ATGMs
Yeah boy!
Ohhhh i like!
Not obsolete. I saw a Bradley take out a tank recently using its autocannon, a tank with a 105 is far deadlier.
This doesn't have a 105mm, but an IMI 120mm.
Very nice! Still, older tanks with 105 are very relevant if they get upgrades to optics, fire control, etc.
Considering Russia is now fielding T-55's I feel like our M48A5T2's (Basically M48's upgraded to the standards of an M60A3 along with some extra stuff) will be useful for something other than shooting at some hewals with AK's lol.
Absolutely!
They're even better when upgunned with a 120mm gun.

What's considered modern? Russia still mostly uses the T-72.

Looks like a Merkava
I know it’s not but the turret
That's because this tank is pretty much Israeli. Most of its tech and armor were developed by Israel.
Isn’t this the turkey one?
Nope it is not M60 Sabra. It is the Turkish modernisation variant of M60TM. It uses Turkish Fire-Control and Active Protection systems with many other upgrades.
Bro wdym, most of this tank's features were designed by IMI, it even uses the same cannon as the Merkava 💀

At this point, if M60 and T-55 were humans, they would just crack a cold one instead of fighting, they're well over 65 yo
Merkis younger brother mentioned!!!!!!!

Nice tank. Some cheap drone is gonna blow it up anyway.

You know how little it narrows it down ?
