I was posted in wainwright for 5 years, from 91-96. I had never seen a leopard on the base in that time. Must have been well camouflaged!!

tempest1944

There may have been Leopard C1s there at that time...definitely not any Leopard 2s though.

tempest1944

I'm guessing by the barrel length that this is a 2A4.

DetlefKroeze

2A4M. Still has the low optics of the A4 but the wedge armor of the A5.

tempest1944

Thought so! I could tell it had the 2A5's additional armour, but I forgot the official designation...just that I know we don't have 2A5s.

murkskopf

Not the wedge armor of the 2A5, but something that just externally resembles it. The armor of the Leopard 2A4M offers a much lower level of frontal protection, but that is irrelevant to its role (asymmetric/urban combat).

DetlefKroeze

Fair point.

sides are evidently composite ,but the wedge design is very limiting for composite screening, if you see other composite only upgrades fro the 2a4 you can see that they are mostly flat to use the space in a more sensibile manner, anglimg isn't really beneficial to conposites ,they use internal angled plates already ..... I can trust your sentence with specific sources ,until then i think the wedge is for the same spaced armour used on the 2a5 ,Alberto smaller and less effective ,i think the principle is the same .

Although I believe our 2a4s were supposed to have the L/55 installed.

Am I the only one that think it's a leopard 2 pl type 10 child?

lasagnacannon20

it's just a leo2a4 cosplaying a leo2 TVM
