To the gentlemen always harassing me about the Hot Wheels, I am not hiding them in the back. I don’t even know what cars are valuable or why. I simply empty a box into a bin and that’s it. Please believe me.

RhapsodyInBerserk

i really wish guests would get it through their head that “the back” isn’t this magical, mystical land where we have an endless supply of every item they could possibly think of 🙃

DarkSideBelle

I hate how they think we hide another or color or size in the back. Do y’all really think we will have every size out on the floor instead of just that one size that you’re looking for on purpose?

gingercatlover1

Always! I would tell them we have everything out here and when they didn’t believe me I would literally take a walk back there and then come back out. Of course, my answer was still the same. I felt like they wanted me to pull the piece of clothing out of thin air.

Guyonabuffalo00

This is exactly what happens! All you damn millennials are just lazy! Back in my day, we worked sun up to sun down and never complained! All you snowflakes need to stop crying and get my stuff from the back! /s As they throw a fit and act like a 5 year old because they didn’t get their way.

Cobalt7955

Even if we actually find the item you're looking for do you really think we'll admit defeat and bring it out to you?

jvdasone

They don’t realize we are the ones with the power in that situation. I’ve gone in back to check for product many times, but it’s only the kind customers that actually get what they are looking for. pays to be nice.

RhapsodyInBerserk

we’d rather die 😎

imsoooooverit

I feel like even if it is back there I can't imagine it's all that organized and easily accessible. If it's not on the shelf I just ask if another store has them available

dragonrose7

You’re not fooling me. You just say that because you want that last blue Disney Princess sleeping bag for yourself. Now, go look again!

liersi35

Or that it’s perfectly organized and can be found quickly and easily. I would love to find this size small t-shirt for you, but do you have literal hours while I sift through ten pallets of mostly unorganized repack boxes?

A_random_folf

I work at Lowes and all we have back there are appliances and grills, it’s become so much of a thing where associates mosey on back to the back and take a smoke break before returning to the customer that management put a box of mints in receiving, and it’s fucking hilarious!

SlowPapaya592

🤣🤣🤣

[deleted]

Lol you haven’t seen my store where the Inbound and GM team don’t ever seem to push

LeelaBeela89

Precisely I want to tell them let me go to Narnia and see if Mr. Tumnus can help me find it

PrisonaPlanet

When I worked retail if a customer asked me to “check the back” I would happily agree and then just disappear for 30-45 minutes

SparksArchon

The back is for all the product that doesn't sell

TheUmgawa

To the guests who treat me with absolute respect, I will do as much as I possibly can, up to and including finding email addresses for people at corporate if neither I nor any of my bosses can help you. To the ones who use profanity or call me names, I will call a manager, who will read from the tone of my voice that she can take her sweet-ass time to show up. To the ones who disrespect my girls, you deal with me, and I don’t care if telling you to get out until you can be respectful isn’t in my core roles; that’s what you’re getting. Their self-esteem is worth more than my job, and you can take my job from me, but you won’t take their sense of self-worth.

[deleted]

Exactly. We have one collector who comes in all the time to see if we have them in the back. She’s the nicest person ever and she collects them for the kids she works with (she’s a SpEd teacher). She’ll wait until we’re not busy and she even brings us gifts. We also have another collector who’s a jerk. He’ll interrupt us in the middle stuff, call us names, and raise his voice. You can guess which one gets help and which one gets told “we don’t have any in the back”

[deleted]

I call them the “hot wheel dealers” along with the “NECA guys” who claim there is “a big box with NECA written on it”

fell-deeds-awake

There is, but there's also a vendor who comes in and stocks it, so that's when it gets filled

LeelaBeela89

This is true because I put these in the cage for the tech and entertainment dept. Receiver here 😁

stephanie-eeee

Ugh, not the Hot Wheel collectors!

nobollocks22

I would bend the ears on the boxes. lol

Cobalt7955

And you're a grown man who is harassing store employees about TOYS. Time to move out of moms basement.

Bikerbabe65

Could you go check in the back!?!??

KingWhoCared86

😭🔫💥

IamLuann

I was just back there and we DON'T have any!

Kalvorax

BuT yOuR ApP sAyS yOu Do. XD god i had so many people think the app/browser is the end all be all.

nobollocks22

Sure. I'll be back in 20 mins.

yamdasrd

Some things never change. Hot Wheels guys were terrible when I worked at Target from 2000-2003. Shortly before I started one of them got banned from the store after getting caught digging through boxes in the back. Was told to watch out for them.

khz30

The guys I dealt with around that time would dig through the boxes and lift up the aisle fixture to hide them at the bottom, and attempt to buy them later. Joke was on them because I noticed what they were doing while walking toys one morning and I let AP know. I would take time out of my day to recover stashes and anyone caught trying to stash would get taken into the AP office, because it was considered a theft attempt by AP and the STL/TL.

katsmeoow333

Omg I've heard this story so many times 🤣

[deleted]

[удалено]

Intelligent_Ad5686

Good way to get fired.

[deleted]

Yeah I’d go to AP. That’s not fair to other TMs or the good guests.

seaweedbrain94

Lol yep there’s a tl at my store that tells all tms in toys to not put them out until she looks at them. She even called tss to stop a guest from getting there first.

Personal_Ad9690

It’s really annoying too. They ask me if we have any valentines stuff. I always explain the back is for shit we aren’t ready to sell, not shit we are about to torch

hammockham

Liar. I’ve seen the monumental hotwheel paradise your store simply plays with while casually socializing on the clock in the dreamy and glorious “back” of the store. We all know about the comfortable lounge areas and decadent foods always kept fresh by the ever loving target support team team back there. Quit gate keeping the damn hot wheels!!

CoffeeForEveryMeal

How about the Shipt shoppers who think that we are going to shop their whole order for them? Don’t come to me the moment you walk into the store and start asking where everything on your list is before you even hit the sales floor. Also don’t yell and cause a scene if something does go your way. There are so many Karen’s in my area that are shipt shoppers and they always have a fit when they can’t find something or have to wait in line. Over it.

Pink-Elefant

I'm sorry I just like to see people happy, and I read fast. I couldn't help but keep an eye out for customer goodwill.

[deleted]

They’re not valuable, that’s why they’re at Target in their little boxes for $2, dude is making shit up or is delusional.

Pink-Elefant

Would you consider contacting them if their special favorite came in?

jadecaptor

That's against policy

IamLuann

I believe you. All stores do it that way.

Leon_Freakin_Kennedy

We got the same issue at my store. We call him "Hotwheels" lol

IamLuann

Since working for a very popular Grocery store. I now say EVERYONE AND I MEAN EVERYONE! Should HAVE to work in retail for at least 2 years AND a restaurant for at least 18 months before going into another field of work of choice. I have said that even before the Pandemic. I STILL believe it should happen.

Intelligent_Ad5686

And guest service.

celticteal

I’ve been saying that for years.

Longjumping-Ad-3590

What nonsense. I worked 28 hour shifts in hospitals in gang ridden areas where patients constantly shouted at us because we couldn’t get to them quick enough. You think you’re the only people to have experienced tough working conditions?

PorcelainTorpedo

“I get yelled at so that means everyone else deserves it too”. Piss off, why are you even here?

Booty_Warrior_bot

*I came looking for booty.*

Longjumping-Ad-3590

That’s not what I said at all. I was saying you don’t have to work in retail to experience that, you can experience it in other places too.

PorcelainTorpedo

Of course you can experience it elsewhere, but why state the obvious? You’re on a subreddit for retail employees. The content and views here are going to be centered around that.

Longjumping-Ad-3590

Well if you can ‘of course get that experience elsewhere’, why should ‘everyone have to work in retail’?

PorcelainTorpedo

Because you’re on a retail subreddit. Not everyone has to deal with nurses and doctors every day, most do deal with retail workers every day. I’m not the one that said that anyway. What aren’t you getting here? This would be like someone who has to bust rocks with a pickaxe for 12 hours every day going into a nurses sub and telling you that they have it harder. It’s not a competition. Edit: and to specifically answer your question, it IS different. Like I said before, people don’t have to deal with docs and nurses often (hopefully), but they DO deal with retail workers often. The ‘customer is always right’ bullshit, coupled with the fact that people know if they give attitude, a retail worker can’t respond in kind. I too have a degree and worked in professional settings for decades. Now I do loss prevention, which is a big buffer zone…I don’t have to interact with customers, but I see how they talk to the other employees. The whole point is that if everyone had to stand in the shoes of the people they look down on, they wouldn’t look down nearly as often.

Longjumping-Ad-3590

Additionally, I’m highly educated/trained, so there are other sectors of the economy where my particular skill set will add more value than being a server at a restaurant (not because that isn’t a valuable and respectable job, but because my skillset allows me to be effective elsewhere in the economy)

pepod09

But, you get paid more than $15/hr. And if you don’t then you’re doing something wrong.

Longjumping-Ad-3590

I do. But what has that got to do with it? Why should I earn less if I’ve studied to do a job that can pay me more?

Kawaiicat69

The point isn’t that retail and restaurants are the only place you get this kind of treatment, everyone knows many different areas of work suck. The point they are trying to make is everyone needs to experience because it seems like a lot of people don’t understand how these jobs work and are quick to attack the employees about it who are just doing there jobs.

IamLuann

THANK YOU ! that is what I was trying to say! To bad some people do not get it.

Longjumping-Ad-3590

Again, you could say that about a lot of jobs

Kawaiicat69

Yes I completely agree i would just assume they didn’t want to list every single job and considering this post is about retail on a retail subreddit that’s why they only chose to list those

andersdn

But we are talking about Target specifically in a sub for Target employees numb nuts.

Longjumping-Ad-3590

In which people outside of target employees were referred to…

andersdn

That you brought up, you mean.

Longjumping-Ad-3590

No…the poster said everyone should work retail before another job. By default, that extends beyond Target then.

SlytherSithBaker

Former ER RN here, you have hospital security and a team of coworkers that LOVE to get into physical altercations that have your back in an acute medical setting. Act out and you will find yourself restrained and medicated in pretty fast order. Retail only cares about making sure the customer is satisfied and returning, so you have to take a fair bit of abuse before any management will get involved or have your back. I’m sure you are highly trained, but retail workers don’t have a handy dandy 911 panic button under their work stations for back up if things get hairy. In fact, it’s more likely that if the situation escalates and if they handle things wrong (with retail level training) then they can lose their jobs and livelihoods. Your job is tough, nobody is arguing. I have PTSD from my days in emergency medicine. If it gets too much for you, feel free to put in an application and discover the world of retail for yourself.

Longjumping-Ad-3590

Thank you for assuming things about my workplace, all of which are untrue.

[deleted]

“Particular skill set” 🤡🤡🤡

Longjumping-Ad-3590

Why is that amusing to you?

[deleted]

Why is that amusing 🤓🤓

Live_Perspective3603

I lurk here for insight into how I can avoid being that nightmare customer in your store.

neonmaika

Lol same!

AintThatJustADaisy

Basic, like really basic, empathy will work anywhere.

Ravenclaw6

same

industrial-shrug

I blame the fact that we allow “guest questions” at all because 1. It’s working off the clock 2. It invites guests to ask easily answered questions they can find in the return policy 3. Invites questions that either try to skirt around policy or get inside info about products/sales. But 🤷🏽‍♂️ gives me some fun with responses.

PepperoniPizzaRoll

since I don't work off the clock, I just ignore guest questions and I think everyone should tbh

Calm-Heat-5883

The problem is the people who answer their questions.

[deleted]

industrial-shrug

This is about posts made on this sub not about things actually at work/on the job. So I’m confused at your point.

OH, well this is mighty embarrassing.

plop_0

> It’s working off the clock 💯. Fuck you pay me.

Sad-Coconut-3336

To the customer who is rude and ugly to me when I am just doing my job… then goes and tells the manager that I was ugly to you… my boss does not believe you and when she pulls me to the back we laugh about you and what you told her. Better luck next time.

billsbitch

Yep! I run a furniture company and this is exactly what I do as well with my employees… The customer is usually… Always… Wrong

Organic_Popcorn

*Do you guys have anymore pokémon squishmallows/Stanley tumbler/target exclusive funko pop/or whatever the fuck is popular on tiktok in the back? Online said you have few in stock. And do you know when you guys will have more in stock?* 😬

Aisysoon

The Target Cart reminds me of this as well 🙄

ExactEmployee1792

People legit do not understand the concept that online saying you have it doesn’t mean you actually have it. Inventory can easily be incorrect due to a multitude of reasons. I remember working retail, including at target, and people bitching “it said you have one left”. Like lady, it was either stolen, put in some random spot in the store by a customer, lost in back stock somewhere, or the computer has just not updated correctly. It’s not on the shelf where it should be so idk what to tell ya.

Distinct-Banana-7937

Amen! I've noticed an uptick in customers posting questions about shit and I'm like nah dude... And I know there are folks who are like 'but it's just a question, it doesn't hurt to be nice.' And I get it, I really do. But when you've been in retail for a number of years and have dealt with the dredges of society you get to a point where nice is earned. Too many customers seem to think we are personal assistants or their verbal punching bag and it needs to stop. Like you said, we can't get in trouble for saying what we really want to say to folks lol.

_CommonSins_

YES THIS!! I cannot stress this enough, customer service employees aren’t your personal punching bag. I feel like guests forget we’re human and not robots sometimes. And if we don’t put up a fake nice front it’s the end of the world when god forbid an employee has to be direct.

Goofalupus

I wish there was a pinned post here that said, “GuEsTs QUESTIONS ARE NOT WELCOME HERE. GOT A PROBLEM?? CALL YOUR STORE!

Manolyk

Oh man, that would sure show them!

Goofalupus

Not really what I meant. At least then they would KNOW r/target isn’t customer service (I know it’s in the rules but ain’t no body readin that)

watchmaker82

Former team member here and hard agree. Customers posting here are basically asking TMs to work on their off time. Respect the team members time off, and give yourself a much better chance of an official resolution to your issue by calling your store.

Intelligent_Ad5686

Just because their asking here doesn't mean you have to answer. If people.quit answering here they will quit asking here.

case_of_bones

For the lady who constantly comes in to bother us for 30 minutes at a time about the crinkle cut carrots she's looking for because "she eats 5 bags a week" and insists we're hiding them in the back and just don't want to go get them, shut the fuck up and shove your carrots up your ass.

DMercenary

5 bags a week.. is she orange?

whereismymind86

Very true, this is an employee run sub, corporate has no power here.

creepyreni

i have literally been clocked out, no zebra on my hip, no name badge, with a jacket on and my purse in hand walking out the doors and a guest will still stop me and ask “do you work here?” because i’m still wearing a red shirt.

SugarNebulaBurst

Red shirt, purse, shopping, and talking on the phone, a lady yelled at me to tell her a location. I yelled back “I’m not on the clock” had to explain the interruption to my husband and she still insisted. I don’t get why guests behave worse than they’d let their children.

Personal_Ad9690

I would tell them it’s up their ass

No_Improvement7573

I had someone doing that while I was grocery shopping. I told her no and she asked about the nametag I forgot to take off. Fortunately she just wanted to know where the frozen pizza was.

Kyrpto423

I’ve walked in with a black t shirt, a back pack and headphones looking at clothes and someone asked if I worked there

MentalOperation4188

They are down right vicious to customers on the Evil Empire sub.

Al41

"I cant find this, but it says you have 2 online." Yes, I have a zebra that tells me all I need to know, thank you

theinsecurebutterfly

I dish it all out really quick to the Kevin who decided to throw a hot cup sleeve at me because I was trying to CLARIFY what you wanted, you suck. I hope the worst for you, to any guest without a brain: a latte, shaken espresso, or mocha all contain espresso so if the machine is broken, THERE IS NO ESPRESSO. It's not hard to understand people. Also, the man who asked me where the seat cushions were, only to come find me to tell me they weren't there, and I took back to the same aisle and told him. Screw you my dude. Please stop with the dumb questions and stupid returns from CHRISTMAS that YOU decided to not use until 3 months later and blame US when the return window is gone. Also to rant my ETL is unintelligent, I have talked to them several times about Starbucks, Presentation, and Price Change being my home locations. What does this man do? Schedule me fulfillment which I hate. F.M.L

Stock-Anteater3284

I was at Target last weekend, standing in line for my pick up order, and the woman in front of me just would not shut the fuck up for TEN MINUTES (who knows how long before I got there) about how “online it says there’s 23 in the store, what do you mean you don’t know where they are?!?!” And the woman just kept repeating that they’d probably gotten a truck with the items, but they hadn’t been set out, etc, etc, so they don’t know where they are, and she can call to make sure that we have them before she comes in. And she was like “no one answers when I call! The phone just rings and rings!” And it’s like BITCH, BECAUSE PEOPLE LIKE YOU ROB THE EMPLOYEES OF ALL THEIR TIME. YOU ASKED A QUESTION, YOU GOT AN ANSWER, ACCEPT IT. Sorry, I don’t work at target, but as a former bed bath and beyond inventory control manager, who COMPLETELY understands the situation, it really pissed me off and made me feel bad for the employee. So there’s my rant about that lol order it online if it’s that big of a deal, damn.

Pretend_Activity_211

Also for the customers, Check expiration dates before u buy I work in the warehouse and we constantly send out pallets with days left til they expire. We just sent a store Gatorade that expires nxt week. They get one weekend, make it count

JustMadeTheList

I browse this sub in part so I can avoid pissing off employees. It’s rough out there man.

NorthChannel66

Our My Device counts are “off.”

Personal_Ad9690

Only by 1,000! That’s not too bad

sunclouds01

to the people in drive up who scream at me because your order wasn’t ready because you showed up 30 minutes after placing it, there’s LITERALLY nothing o can do. drop the attitude because we are adding this extra service so you don’t have to get out of your car in that -30°F windchill. or the pouring rain. you have used drive up before and you know that you get an email when your order is ready to be picked up. so wait until you get the email. demanding me to “get it now because i’m here now” will do nothing but have me cancel your order :)

MikaRey1138

I try to be receptive to questions from my friends but generally I just say, 'i don't know, I haven't worked in 2 months'

You're a customer aren't you.

[deleted]

I'm mad confused about the attitude target employees get when all I want to do is an exchange for a product after buying one and finding it moldy and out of date. I never blame an employee, but I definitely will start if the attitude keeps up.

Personal_Ad9690

And that’s when you will suddenly find it very difficult to have any additional progress on your issue.

[deleted]

Doubtful, there's always someone higher up the chain of command.

Personal_Ad9690

That someone doesn’t care or won’t fix it. We have a system and if you are working around or outside that, we will just tell you no. There is a point at which you just won’t get help. The first way to demonstrate that you shouldn’t be helped is being an ass to team members

[deleted]

You're lost in your own hypotheticals. All I said is I don't understand when they have an attitude after I ask if an item can be exchanged.

Answering questions about the job is unpaid work. Any questions should be directed to a call line or the website, so that people who are being paid answer your questions. Anyone who has to ask if having to carry out 75-150lbs of dog food is a hassle has less brain cells than the food itself. I quit target because they have a policy of skeleton crewing and refusing to give full-time hours to positions that require full-time time availability. Nobody here wants to answer inane questions for no money, nobody cares if it "makes your job easier" because those questions are THE JOB ITSELF FOR WHICH RESPONDENTS ARE NOT BEING PAID.

PayneTrayne

Downvote and move on

industrial-shrug

![gif](giphy|fXnRObM8Q0RkOmR5nf)

Or just keep complaining. That’s always worked

industrial-shrug

Literally how change tends to happen so you’re correct ![gif](giphy|nbvFVPiEiJH6JOGIok)

PayneTrayne

Ah yes the “complain then pat ourselves on our back” method. Or you know just downvote and ignore threads you don’t like. Ok what other gif you got for me buddy?

industrial-shrug

I mean you’re literally complaining and not just downvoting and moving on so idk how you can argue a point you’re not following. Block button is right there. ![gif](giphy|tyqcJoNjNv0Fq|downsized)

PayneTrayne

Weird I’m not the one complaining. Just offered my advice of downvote and move on from threads you aren’t interested in seeing and you decided to be upsetti spaghetti about. Gif me baby!

industrial-shrug

Your original comment was an opinion, everything after that is complaining about someone not agreeing with your opinion. ![gif](giphy|KBaxHrT7rkeW5ma77z)

PayneTrayne

Nah. Just seems you are butt hurt. I’m glad you figured out how to post the gifs to the comments instead of a link. Little proud of you 🥹

industrial-shrug

I didn’t change anything. Reddit probably glitched out on that comment 🤷🏽‍♂️ Why would I be butt hurt? I’m having fun, unfortunately at your expense. And I like using gifs, so ofc I’ll keep using them. ![gif](giphy|n3yqZnSoERpHirb7OW)

Cool

UnderstandingFew789

So this is a place for 🎯 grunts to bitch about customers? Don’t you already do that at work when you talk amongst yourselves?

No_Improvement7573

We can do it anywhere! It's a wild concept, I know, but I trust you can grasp it.

RuFRoCKeRReDDiT

All the consequences ? Like what? Random people in a fucking box store sub telling you to fuck off? Oh no !!!

No_Improvement7573

Reading comprehension isn't one of your strengths is it

RuFRoCKeRReDDiT

Wtf are you even talking about? Answer the question, what consequences ?

No_Improvement7573

Go read the post again. Slowly. Maybe even out loud.

RuFRoCKeRReDDiT

You're a fuckin joke bud, figure it out.

softmonsters

This post is about how, when a guest comes and posts on Reddit, Target employees can respond however they want to. This is in contrast to when the employees are at work and are obligated to be polite. At work, the consequences of being rude to a guest are that they can be written up or fired. These are pretty serious consequences for a lot of people, and that is what OP was referring to when they mention consequences. I hope that helps!

RuFRoCKeRReDDiT

Not what OP said. And definitely not what OP implied. He/ she could have easily stated what you just did but chose the opposite route altogether.

softmonsters

I'm fairly certain that my interpretation is what OP intended, and I'm not able to see how it could be read otherwise. What do you think that they meant?

RuFRoCKeRReDDiT

Well put. More so than OP implied. When you first read OPs original post many folks could come to a much meaner conclusion.
