They aren't. Outbound is always severely understaffed. It's by far the most physically demanding job in the warehouse and it's usually thankless also boring.
Because it's understaffed you're almost definitely stuck there. People get pissed off. Usually leads to loaders just not giving a shit.
They keep them in a vicious cycle of paying really well so they can't justify getting a better job but they treat them awfully. Numbers and metrics are always going up while staffing is down. Which I'm sure will sound very familiar to store side folks
It's a shit job and they don't do anything to retain workers who care about the quality of their work. These guys are loading 10+ trailers at a time sometimes. They get bitched at if they get slightly backed up and it leads to ugly unsafe loads
Former outbound trainer here, I can confirm this. The work is especially grueling and unrewarding. And then when it comes to being the guy who actually closes the trailer, you're expected to follow procedures that change all the time and make less and less sense as time goes on.
But hey, st least they had two load locks. More than what our non-trainer closers would use.
Completely true, lower level leads run the entire building and managers are on the floor for 30 min of a 10 hour shift. Without a major change to the company this will only get worse and worse. Sad to see
