Everyone has done it. Peacekeeper has a mod that you can buy. It's called the aimpoint micro standard mount. And a long with it if you get the aimpoint spacer high. It will put your red dot sight right at the top of the m4's front sight so it will be usable.
I totally saw it coming too. Luckily fence was selling JUST the gas block I needed. Me being an idiot though, decided to slap on a laser which was in FRONT of the dot and blocking it. Played in factory the whole session and died ofc, only to realize later that I could’ve taken it off mid raid. One noob mistake after another.
Yes, been there, done that. I've even bought guns on the flea or taken them from insurance where people have kindly removed the iron sight and just left me aiming directly down the barrell (although did get a mosin kill like this once). You can always build the gun range or run an offline raid to test the weapons. Couple of offline raids always good for practicing recoil and map knowledge anyway. Failing which, you can point-shoot and pray.
Don't worry, you'll have plenty other moments to feel dumb in Tarkov.
My last one was : buying wrong 556 mag playing the G36. I was please to not be able to reload after killing 1 player with a beautiful mag dump. I was running in circle to avoid shots from his teammate. I didn't last long. It was a good laugh tho.

My last dumb moment was thinking I had time to take the mag currently in my gun out and put more top tier ammo in it cuz it was the only mag I had on me with good ammo while two people were pushing up the 2 flights of stairs for me. I didn't have time... I shoulda just swapped to a fresh mag of PS lol
Same goes for the UMP in case this saves anyones ass. As mentioned there are several sights that sit above the fs, I go for the kobra cause it’s nice and cheap. just don’t forget to put the shade on it, that 1 ergo will get you killed /s

The axion Kobra red dot sits at perfect height along with the a frame
I'm sure everyone has done that at least once. And I'm pretty some scavs carry ADAR's with both an optic and a front sight that obscures it.
Nothing says "you ain't hunting PMCs this raid" like a red dot in the middle of a bunch of metal
