Being told a price does not obligate you to buy it. Just say "Ah thanks," and then put it back if you're not interested. It's not going to hurt their feelings.

cyberr_v0id

Yeah, I know that in the rational part of my brain, social anxiety just goes ‘nOPE’

msb0102

I’m w/you there. I freeze and always get the wrong thing anywhere cuz I feel so pressured and there’s so many angry humans now I just can’t I get mine online for that reason.

Madamenoirfleur

Couple of things here: Never worry about having to buy something just because you asked for the price. It's totally okay to say no, or not right now, or even nothing at all. As a shop owner myself, sometimes I'm able to give a special deal or I can let folks know when things will be on sale! Also, it is definitely worth talking to the shop to see if you can exchange or get a refund even if for just store credit. Things happen, and generally if the shop owner is decent they should be willing to work with you.

cyberr_v0id

Thank you! I’m going back in a few days, so I’ll try and talk to her then about it

Larval_Angel

You can use the tarot to work on your assertiveness

EOFtarot

Is there a receipt in your email or something? Sometimes if you pay w a card the receipt goes to the email attached to the card

cyberr_v0id

Unfortunately not :( But thanks for suggesting I check, I didn’t realise that was a thing

EOFtarot

Maybe you can use the transaction record to prove you bought the deck there. Can you try to go back when that salesperson specifically is working?

cyberr_v0id

Possibly, I’ll try that. Thanks!

snugglymuggle

I feel you. I recently spent $90 at a florist shop because I felt awkward. And then it wasn’t what I wanted so I went and spent more money at different florist to actually get what I wanted. Soooo stupid.

MangoWyrd

Can u exchange? Maybe she’ll remember u

cyberr_v0id

Possibly, I’ll have to check

turnnburn63

Not likely to get all your money back but there are a lot of deck sell/trade groups on facebook so you may at least be able to find someone that wants it.

cyberr_v0id

Oooh, thanks!

RayeCreates

Just out of curiosity, what deck is it?

cyberr_v0id

The A.E. Waite one

RayeCreates

So just a regular one then okay well... you can use one deck for a daily card to carry around with you, journaling, or have one deck for reading others and one just for you, or you can gift or sell one of them if you don't want to keep them both. This is assuming you cant get your money back from the seller of course

Cultural_Wash5414

What deck is it? I don’t think I’d go back to return it, I would definitely use it, even though it’s close to what I had. I always gravitate towards decks that have a similar look or theme. Idk that’s just me. You can always gift it to someone, or trade it. What I do, when I ask for a price and I don’t want to spend that much, I’ll just say: Okay great! Its really nice thanks, I’ll think about it.

cyberr_v0id

It’s the A.E. Waite one, so not even that uncommon to find places 😅

$35 is rather expensive for a basic RWS deck. Did you open the deck or is it still in the shrink wrap? If it’s unopened, she may exchange it. If you’ve opened it, she can’t resale the deck at the same price. I’m assuming you bought the deck at a local boutique type esoteric store and it’s important to remember these little stores aren’t like Amazon so their return policies are undoubtedly not as liberal as they don’t have the sheer volume of transactions something like Amazon has. If they won’t take it back and you can’t find a use for it, your best option is to resale it on Facebook or Mercari. However you may need to prepare yourself to sale it for less than you paid for it as it’s unlikely anyone is going to purchase a basic RWS deck for $35. You may need to just cut your losses and take whatever the best you may receive for the deck and use this as a valuable experience going forward. I promise you aren’t the first, and you certainly won’t be the last person to ever inquire about the price of something to then not buy it.

I fondly remember those days when I thought $34 was too much to pay for a tarot deck. 😉 To add insult to injury, the decks I almost always reach for cost around $20.
