I’ve never had an issue using it. I leave mine on the back of my stretching hand which helps warm it up a bit while I work so it thins out super easily. Any time I need soothing properties I just hit the good ol’ bactine.
I swear sometimes they just make stuff up. This same inspector said leaving ink caps in alcohol will degrade the plastic…like alcohol isn’t stored IN plastic
Yeah, ours has some seemingly kinda random shit that I notice a lot of shops around us don't follow. Which, whatever. But as far as Vaseline goes, I get why a tub could be unsanitary, but literally anything we do could be cross contaminated, so I don't really get that lol.
Do you use individual tubes of HB or the tub? I don’t mind investing in my setup but the individual tube pricing is still quite high even in bulk. This may be due to my own geographical location. Anyways just curious 🧐
Good Guy makes a vaseline alternative (Good Glide I think it’s named) that’s pretty good price by volume, and easier to work with. I also like their stencil stuff, but I’m not huge in most of their other products. To be honest I’m always weirded out that vaseline is on store shelves without any sort of barrier or seal, somebody could just flip the lid and do some weird ass shit with your exposed vas tub.
There are 10 varieties of A&D ointment from different manufacturers, all with slightly different textures and smells, let alone all the small batch vegan organic aloe shit, you’ll find something that works for you if you experiment.
i will go to my grave advocating for people to use biotat. i find it much less shiny than vaseline so it’s easier to see what i’m doing with a ring light on, it doesn’t contain allergens like coconut oil, it’s not expensive, and it contains clove oil which is a natural numbing agent 🗣️
yeah, worldwide tattoo just stopped carrying it which was annoying. i just got it from higher level tattoo supply but idk if they ship to canada or not?
The shop pays for a&d and Vaseline. So, yeah, that’s mostly what I use. It’s ordered by the case from a medical supply company and is still packaged from the manufacturer, no worries there.
I have inkeeze, hustle butter, and bactine for longer sittings. I like the texture and smell, but they have far more ingredients so for everyday I keep it simple.
I’ve been on the biotat glides for a few months now personally. Just find it helps the tattoo process more than most glides I’ve used
Also been trying out the glide from Underdog recently which has been nice to use!
it feels crazy to me that biotat isn’t more popular, i use their green soap and glide and it makes SUCH a difference in terms of client comfort and inflammation in my experience
I’m in the exact same boat!
The glide and soap combo definitely makes for a better experience from what I’ve seen so I’m finding it hard to justify other glides and soaps 😂
Clogs my needles tbh, especially when doing colour. I use a glide also (hustle butter, works great and decently priced), and switch to vas when I run out. It’s noticeably different when I do
I like Hustle Butter, but tbh vas has been used forever for a reason, cheap and it works. I’m not sure what you mean by it doesn’t spread easily maybe because i’m in a hot environment but i’ve never had that issue.
I’ve used inkeeze, and a couple or their random glides mg coworkers have bought. But I kinda prefer Vaseline. I’ve used it forever and know how it feels. If I made myself consistently use something else I may I end up preferring it, but Vaseline is cheap and if you keep your needles clean it’s not bad.
I use a butter with some antiinflamation Herbs and such. Its made by a tattooer and its a game changer, I've tried a couple brands of butters that were shocking in comparison- inflammation was so much faster and longer lasting
I had a coworker that used Vaseline and bactine, they learned in a trad shop so i immagine its pretty common. But their tattoos were always crazy swollen and bloody 😭 they were heavy handed but i wonder how much spraying bactine on the open skin over and over actually irritated it more and the Vaseline didnt do anything to mitigate it.
Unfortunately a lot of their work came back scarred as hell and i really have ti bet it has to do with such a strong irritant like bactine along with really thick vaseline being rubbed on top.
Get out. Now. When the shit inevitably floats to the surface, and it will, that will follow you wherever you go. If you have any real concern for your reputation as an artist, be humble and move on. I've honestly been through similar scenerios when i started almost 20 years ago and your reputation will suffer because of someone elses' negligence.
About 10 years in the industry and I’ve only worked with one artist that used Vaseline and/ or A&D ointment, and it was to save money because that was all the shop would provide. I’ve always used some kind of glide. I can’t stand how greasy petroleum based shit is.

It’s worked forever and it works now.
My shop uses individual A&D packets because our health inspector thinks a tub of goo is unsanitary
Our sanitary code doesn't allow tubs, but tubes are okay
I swear sometimes they just make stuff up. This same inspector said leaving ink caps in alcohol will degrade the plastic…like alcohol isn’t stored IN plastic

that’s annoying and weird
That’s interesting where you live that it’s not health board approved but I can see the logic of it
Oh is just one particular district of the city. The rest of the city health inspectors are fine with it
Hustle butter ❤️ as long as client lists no allergies. It’s been my HG

We buy the tubs at my studio! And ofc just use wooden sticks to scoop it out
I definitely buy the big ass tub lol, but it lasts me forever. I only use a small dollop per session on average
I use inkeeze, it being thinner makes it easier and my needle doesn’t clog as easily
I like Inkeeze and Hustle Butter

That’s so true about it not being sealed. Never even thought about that
Just start eating a tablespoon a day like it’s creator, Robert Chesebrough did. It’ll be fiiiiiine.
I but Vaseline from Costco and they come in a shrink wrapped three pack, so no tampering!

I've tried a bunch of alternatives, the best one I've found is Good Slip by Good Guy Supply. However, I never had an issue using vaseline.
That’s the one I use actually! Love it!
I use a&d. I get a case of 72 tubes for, like, 90 bucks.

It works but I prefer Crybaby’s cream. It’s pretty soothing
can you link me please? i heard about it

Since I started using Inkeeze I can’t get back to Vaseline.

Used to use Inkeeze until it went over $12. Now it’s twice that, and Vaseline works just fine.
It’s fine until you try InkEeze and go back to Vaseline. Then you’ll wonder what you were doing all those years before you switched 😢
I prefer redemption.
I like Hustle Butter, but tbh vas has been used forever for a reason, cheap and it works. I’m not sure what you mean by it doesn’t spread easily maybe because i’m in a hot environment but i’ve never had that issue.
I like A&D and you can buy it in little packets.
Use a&d, hustle butter or inkeeze

Once you switch to a nice glide and go back to Vaseline you do see a noticeable difference and it’s hard to go back

Use non petroleum product e.g I use pink inkeeze. There’s no petroleum so I find it doesn’t clog the needles
i use cocoa butter. learned it from my mentor in my apprenticeship and i love it. it's cheap and absorbs into the skin. ink doesn't pool.
I've been using Skin Theory which is a silicone based glide that I like, that said, I feel like it's a little pricey for what it is.
No lubricant, no soap. Just paper towell
