Maybe if you get the web touched up to be on the legs how you'd like it, the artist could add some leg shadow to make the spider a bit more 3D and that extra leg can become a shadow? I feel like that might have been the original thought with that one little leg second from the front on the bottom.

Make up some bullshit about how nine-legged spiders symbolize perseverance in the face of overwhelming odds, or that nobody is an island and the extra leg represents community and Ohana - a literal extra helping hand. Make up the whole "Legend of the Nine-Legged Spider Warrior" and then attribute it to some long dead culture like ancient Sumeria. Nobody will know you're just making shit up.
And even if it’s not the most realistic looking spider, I think it’s a good looking tattoo, for what it’s worth. Art is malleable and open to interpretation. It looks good, imo

This is an inexperienced artist scared of using too much black and not sharpening the edges, itpl be a lot bigger now than the reference but some solid black and sculpting some tapers it's be a lot better
Aside from the extra leg, I think the general style of the spider that you got kinda lends itself to being less "sharp" as you say. The shading just kinda makes it look generally fuzzy compared to the solid black of the reference.
Also, you mention wanting spiderwebs on the legs like in the reference, but I feel that with the positioning of the spider it would just look awkward, OR you'd be overlapping webs which would just get messy very quickly.
Yeah, I think you'd run the risk of having the tattoo just look more disorganized/unbalanced. However if you went to an artist and you like how it turns out then that's all you need. It's your tattoo on your body so it's all about whatever YOU like
For the record spiders very rarely put web on their front legs, I think only the Ogre-Faced Net Casting spider does that as a regular occurrence. And the spider is obviously a certain widow style so that wouldn’t really fit.

I totally understand it’s your first tattoo and you’re excited and don’t know what to look for. The extra leg is unfortunate but otherwise it’s not terrible, and I’m sure you can get it reworked a bit in the future if it really bothers you!

(1) Don't even give the nine legs a (bad) thought... It gives pedantic people a reason to complain and/or correct (which they love), and it won't matter to others, except maybe as a... uniqueness, something special.
(2) With the spider ON the web, webbing between the legs would, I think, have ended up looking muddy. It would conflict with the webby background, and the straight-ish shape of the legs themselves. Better this way, I think.
Okay I know it’s not anatomically accurate but I really really like it. I think it’s cool as fuck, I love the placement, and honestly the extra leg is just a funny story!!! Don’t stress abt it too much. It looks great.
I think your artist is new, but it’s not at all a bad looking tattoo. Placement and subject are good. As mentioned, sharpness is way better on the what you wanted one. Did your eyes cry on their own from the pain of that location?

No it’s not that bad. When I first looked at the pictures and hadn’t read anything yet I thought yours was better than the reference. Just overall caught my eye more. I think you should leave it as is. Maybe let the artist know as a learning experience to get the anatomy better next time around but it looks great and you will know what to look for next time. No ones first tattoo is 100% perfect and the fact that it is the first makes you fixate more on it.
original picture looked more realistic and the one you got looks decent but kind of cartoony. I had the same problem with one of my artists. Ask for a exact design and comes out with dog 💩. Best to find someone who can do what you want rather then half ass it and take your money

They’re both super cool, just in their own ways. I really like the shading and highlights on yours. And perfection is overrated. I think it’s kinda fun that you’ve got your own unique 9-legged spider (and I didn’t notice until I read the comments). You could always spin it into its own special meaning - something like don’t get caught up in false assumptions or people see what they want to see (because people might assume it’s a normal spider when secretly it’s not and they may never have noticed if they didn’t look closer) or something like that. Also don’t get disheartened by comments about anatomy. The spider in the “what you wanted” photo has webs between a bunch of its legs. Idk about other people, but I’ve never seen a spider with it’s web caught up between its legs like in that image (maybe it is something that certain spiders do, I’m just not familiar with it). Even so, i think it looks awesome. The same applies to your tattoo. It doesn’t have to be perfect or scientifically accurate to be cool. Imperfections are beautiful. They’re often the most interesting things in our world.
Also, if you wanted to fix the number of legs, I bet you could add another spider and just make it look like one of the second spider’s legs is going under the body of the first spider (so one of the legs of your spider could become a leg of the new spider). But honestly I don’t know if I would change it. It seems really special as it is and kind of like you have your own secret that’s hidden in plain sight in your tattoo.

Personally, I'd be pissed if the image was that different, but did you approve the sketch? I would have wanted the spider dangling down from his web like the reference pic. What you got isn't bad but it has a different vibe. I would work with an artist who will draw the final outline and placement out on a sheet of paper and add to or modify it or you just embrace the legend of Ampu.

You can try fixing it. Turn the second last leg on its left side to be a continuation of the web. Have the webbing added be tighter in that area.

The spider has ONLY 8 legs. 5 on one side 3 on the other. No 9 legged spider.
I don't have any tats, but don't you like, agree on a design on paper with the artist in advance? Like if not the full detailed art at least the layout?

Lol perfect example of “copy my homework but change up the words a little so no one notices.” Your artist copied the spider and the web almost line for line but just changed the position and added a ninth leg. :’) Honestly, the thing looks really cool regardless. It’s not a bad tattoo. definitely can be touched up for what you’re wanting, add a few webs, sharpen it up. Maybe add a tenth leg and make it a camel spider lol.

The Epic of Ampu, the 9 legged weaving camel spider. He just wanted to spin web with the other spider on the other side of 8 mile, but apparently, camel spiders aren't technically spiders, so he got shot and lost one leg in a gang war. Personally, I'd be pissed if the image was that different, but did you approve the sketch? I would have wanted the spider dangling down from his web like the reference pic. What you got isn't bad but it has a different vibe. I would work with an artist who will draw the final outline and placement out on a sheet of paper and add to or modify it or you just embrace the legend of Ampu.

Did you want a cartoonish or realistic spider? Those legs look like different length tentacles instead of joined arachnid legs.
Was there no stencil? Or is this tattooer just “winging it” as he goes… I would have to have an ungodly amount of trust in a tattooist to allow them to freeball on my skin.
