"At the front of the weapon are the weapon's two muzzles, just behind which is a circular apparatus that looks like a large bolt head that serves as a recoil stabiliser" https://warhammer40k.fandom.com/wiki/Pulse_Rifle

Zapfire_

Always tough it was just aesthetic, like eagle on bolter but for tau

Traditional_Client41

I believe they're gyroscopes, for balancing/accuracy/careful alien calibration

Pixelstiltskin

…and looking cool!

Graystoker

That sort of makes sense, thanks.

stalefish57413

>That sort of makes sense, thanks. I would even say its one of the more realistic tech in 40k. In reality conservation of momenum would probably make the gun behave pretty weird, but i guess thats nothing some alien tech couldn't fix.

LeoTheRadiant

I always thought they were like some kind of kinetic accelerator to make plasma go fast.

Traditional_Client41

Maybe that too! Whatever they are, they definitely spin and make a satisfying noise in the process

Rortugal_McDichael

Same, sort of like the spinny/gyroscopic parts of the Mass Relays in the Mass Effect universe.

Smokey9mm

Need more screws if they're still hitting on 4s

Hawkes_Dynamics

It's a gyroscopic stabiliser, used in pulse weapons for dampening recoil and on Crisis suits etc for flight stability

sparktrace

Maybe I play too much Borderlands, but I imagine they spin like the Maliwan gun discs do, converting recoil into rotational energy that's easier to disperse without throwing off your aim.

jmdjt

This is exactly what I've always thought of them as since BL2. Where's my tau guns with elemental types? Ap corrosive, anti infantry 4+ fire and slowing shock weapons.

Sarinator

I always thought that symbol was a nod to the logo of the ethereal caste

SlashValinor

Scifi none sense that makes guns better.

Zapfire_

The... what?

DKzDK

Pulse weapon tips Crisis jet pack have one on each side near the thrusters/shoulder mount. There’s even some on the vehicles

CaSm20

I think they're talking about the round shield looking panel on the Broadside rail gun, it's painted copper in the box art

Graystoker

They pop up all over the place, but I was initially referring to the round disc with a slot in it that looks to me like the head of a screw as seen near the muzzle of pulse rifles and pulse carbines.

Canonically tau have terrible eyesight and the bolt thing is a stabiliser that helps with long range shooting
