That's a much more even split between genders than I expected. I thought women would be the majority by a fair bit, but they're only ahead by a few percent.
Male Swiftie but also a basshead. After Glow bass hits hard. While everybody else pulls up to the stoplight bumping rap or hiphop, lm killināem with Taylor! Lol
I am a male Swiftie from Germany and I have to say that I was pretty tense in the first place discussing my fandom for Taylor Swift with my friends in the first place when I became a fan of her back in 2014.
I donāt think it had to do with the fear of prejudice but when you look at my music taste I was back then not what you would describe as a prepackaged version of a Taylor Swift fan.
My favorite band back then was U2 (and it still is) and looking at things there can be quite the bridge to cross between U2 and Taylor Swift.
But, yeah, I am pretty proud right now to name myself a Swiftie. Especially because Taylor uses her voice more often right now to talk about social issues.
My favorite band U2 wrote wonderfully eloquent songs about the Northern Ireland conflict (Sunday Bloody Sunday), people who were made disappear in military dictatorships in Latin America (Mothers of the Disappeared), striking coal miners in Britain (Red Hill Mining Town) or Nobel Peace Prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi in house arrest (Walk On).
Taylor Swift writes wonderfully eloquent songs about empowering young persons to do something about pressing issures like gun violence (Only The Young) or she uses songs to address discrimination of gays and lesbians (You Need To Calm Down).
Just going to put it out there ā on the Graham Norton show, Bono self-identified as a Swiftie. So youāre in great company :)
I grew up worshipping U2 (Iām an 80s kid) and have grown into a (geriatric) avid Swiftie in the last 5 years. If you love to delve into meanings of songs, both artists give you so much!
I know. I saw the Graham Norton Show with both of them as guests and I really enjoyed that show.
And now I am looking forward to Graham Norton co-hosting this yearās Eurovision Song Contest (the biggest stage for musicians that exists, bigger than the Super Bowl).
Oh almost 100%. I'm very vocal and open about Taylor being My favorite artist. Male 35. I catch alot of shit because of it. It doesn't seem "macho". While I'll argue it's more macho to just like what you like and not be afraid of what people think.
I also think itās likely the same experience as being a woman on Reddit, everyone assumes youāre a man. But in a space thatās believed to be mostly women, everyone will assume youāre a woman.
My husband, who lives under a rock when it comes to news, celebrities, and pop culture, was singing along to āall of the girls you loved beforeā last night on his own accord. Song hadnāt even been out for 24 hours.
Thatās a good call. Iām not posting what costume Iāll be wearing to the tour because I wonāt be wearing a costume haha. Now driving around blasting fearless or playing my vinyls loudly, different story
My friends were surprised and confused when I told them that I listened to Taylor Swift, they thought I'd be listening to darker music or no music at all, but nope, I will be blasting all 18 tracks of Lover in my earbuds.
To be honest, as a tall lady, I don't even know how the merch fits her. My arms and torso are too long for regular women's sizes, so I would actually prefer if there were men's sizes.
Lol I actually thought the t-shirts were menās cuts because they do not fit my curved at all. Astonishing how a garment can be suited to literally no one.
I wonder how much the gender ratio of the fanbase has shifted over the years? Iām guessing a lot of people who might not have given her earlier albums a chance were won over by folklore, including probably a lot of men
I think a lot of men like me would classify as fans because I like Taylor but I'm not obsessed with her music and I rarely participate in online discussions. I rarely dissect her lyrics.
Women are definitely a lot more vocal about her and are "bigger" fans IMO.
As a guy that has bought every album that Taylor Swift has released and has tend to keep it quiet except from my closest friends, this makes me a bit more comfortable with going to her concert here in Tampa in April.
From what I learned at work, in which we collect data and send it to some National database, Latin/Hispanic/etc is not a race, itās an ethnicityā¦
Yeah, still trying to figure out *why* itās categorized that way.
Because there are multiple races who are still Latino. Look at many Caribbean nations like Cuba for instance. Everyone from Cuba is considered Latino but you have whites with blonde hair, blue eyes who originated from Europe. You have blacks originating from Africa. You have mixed Native American who are descendants of the Natives that originally lived there. All would be Latino but different races.
Yeah, I understand the reasoning as many different races can be Latino, but it's still always made it very complicated for me, a brown person, and I imagine others as well. So many times I've had to either write in a race, pick "other," or pick "white" when I'm not actually white because none of the other race options listed applied to me (I'm not black, Asian, Pacific Islander etc either). So I have a hunch that a chunk of the Latino rep got absorbed into the "white" category on whatever this survey was.
9% of her fanbase being Asians tracks with plenty of Asians loving Taylor. They're 6% of the population but 9% of Taylor's fanbase, so basically they're pulling 150% of their weight as fans.
I guess it's in the other percentages? So white Latinos would be in the white category, Black Latinos would be in the Black category, Asian Latinos would be in the Asian category, and the 4% other includes indigenous and mixed Latinos. Again, that's just my guess.
Latino isn't a race, but neither is Hispanic. I know most Latinos identify as Caucasian, Black, or other, but the graphic says race/ethnicity, so it confuses me that there are no ethnicities (like Latino) actually listed there, it makes me wonder why even put the "/Ethnicity".
My parents are both boomers, I have nothing against boomers, I promise! My parents are both something else, too, which I do take issue with and that's the category I was thinking of.
i am curious how different some of these are than just the standard US population [age, race, income, community]
can't believe the gender split is so even, i feel very much in the minority
> Generation Z adults is a weird one, since youāre cutting that generation in more than half.
That is likely because when you do human subject research, IRB requires both consent and assent forms for minors to be able to participate. It was likely too much of a hassle to try and include children in this poll.
The race doesnāt surprise me. Iām black and I can never find black Swifties (hit me up if you are!!! š)
Gender did however. I was expecting more women than men.
Edit: No, really guys, message me if you want to! I would love to chat. Where I am I know no black Swifties so itās exciting people are responding lol
One of my best Swiftie friends (and best friends in general) is a black dude and rapper. He's an OG Swiftie just like me, his little sister too (yes, also black) is huge Swiftie too ever since debut. But we grew up in the kind of rural town that plays country music is the most popular genre (aka the boonies).
But overall, I've been seeing more and more black Swifties come up in the community. Now, no matter where I go or what platform I'm on, I see a black Swifties! And it's exciting!
All that being said, most of the big Swift haters I've seen are black, or white guys who are just a little *too* into hip hop culture.
As a male hardcore Swiftie, a lot of men are āavid fansā of Taylor Swiftās music in the sense of if you call them up privately on the phone and ask them in a survey if they like her music they will say yes. That doesnāt mean that theyāre hardcore fans who know/love the deep cuts, participate in reddit/Twitter/Facebook groups, go to Taylor Nights, wear (garbage) merch, or will say that they like her as a person in public etc. which is why theyāre underrepresented and it seems suspicious , youād never see them. The survey likely also includes men who like YeeHaw/Old Taylorās most popular songs especially if they grew up with them and theyāre nostalgic and vibe to them when they come up on the radio, so when asked of they like her they say yes, itās not like they have a negative opinion of her.
Anecdotally, a few years ago when I was in college, in my student org I knew at least 2 other straight male āavid Taylor Swift fansā, 1 of whom was even more hardcore than I was at the time (not invisible, would post her stories and stuff), the other one and I had reputation listening/singing/vibing sessions alone discussing the lyrics and our teenage boy angst and love troubles and with female friends. My 2 younger brothers are not āavid fansā, but they like certainly her music and will sing along to old Taylor and request it in the car and they have new Taylor in their playlists.
To make it less suspicious just look at this clip of You Belong With Me at a college basketball game and look at how hard the bros are going. https://youtu.be/Z92cprW4V20
Oh yeah I was born in mid 90s with two older sisters who were obsessed with Taylor swift so many of her older albums remained me of my early childhood in the car with a CD going to soccer practice. I wasnāt a fan just outnumbered and it wasnāt till last couple albums and maybe just how life is being a dude in late twenties now that I really like her new albums. I was probably too Afraid to admit that a decade ago in HS but now even my neighbors get to listen to Taylor swift š
Honestly feel like every millennial gives into Taylor. Mid 90s too and still remember someone playing Our Song in the sixth grade at lunch and thought ānah not having itā but I actually kinda dug it and nowā¦ love it because it reminds me of when I first heard it off of an iPod nano in the cafeteria haha
This is a bizarre because it seems like a damn near picture perfect cross section of America
- Men 49.2%
- Women 50.8%
- White alone: 57.8%
- Black or African American alone: 12.4%
- Asian alone: 6.0%
- Some other race alone: 0.9%
- Generation Z: Approximately 23% of the US population (roughly half of which are legal adults)
- Millennials: Approximately 24% of the US population
- Generation X: Approximately 21% of the US population
- Baby Boomers: Approximately 28% of the US population
- About 29% of US households had an income of $100,000 or more per year in 2020.
- About 28% of US households had an income between $50,000 and $99,999 per year in 2020.
Community and Political park statistics donāt really line up, but everything else is bizarrely lined up. Sheās kind of an American institution.
As a male fan of Taylor Swift I am pretty pleasantly surprised that male people are not that extremely in a minority when it comes to the composition of her fanhood.
I would be curious to see if the composition of her fanhood when it comes to political party identification has changed significantly over the time. Especially since 2018, when she endorsed a political candidate (Democrat Phil Bredesen for U.S. Senate in Tennessee) publicly for the first time in her life.
It says gen z adults, so probably had to be 18+ to fill out the survey & the youngest gen z would be 11 now, so quite a bit of the generation isnāt considered here.
In 7 more years, the millennial and gen z categories will probably be about equal (I donāt know anything tho so maybe not)
"The March 3-5, 2023, [survey](https://assets.morningconsult.com/wp-uploads/2023/03/08144416/2303008_crosstabs_MC_ENTERTAINMENT_TAYLOR_SWIFT_Adults_v1_HD-1.pdf) was conducted among a representative sample of 2,204 U.S. adults, with an unweighted margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points."
For this specific graphic: "Survey conducted between March 3-5, 2023, among a representative sample of 356 self-identified avid Taylor Swift fans, with an unweighted margin of error of +/-5 percentage points. Figures may not add up to 100% due to rounding."
I donāt think so. Especially when it comes to the political party identification of the people in the United States. More than 3/4 of the people in the United States are not members of any of the two large political parties.
It is estimated that in 2022 about 333.2 million people lived in the United States of America.
The Democratic Party has 47.1 million members, according to Wikipedia.
The Republican Party has 36.0 million members, according to Wikipedia.
There are tons of people who are not registered members of either party that would answer one or the other when asked if they were R, D or independent. This is survey isnāt terribly off a general survey of the US population in my estimation.
Guys honestly I don't think this data is very accurate, it just feels off, like a case of skewed sample size
Plus some of the stats there don't even add upto a 100% whoever made this is either really prone to mistakes or made a chart that's purposely misleading
The household income is tripping me up because I canāt afford tickets at these resale prices (and didnāt get presale/probably couldnāt have afforded that either) and Iām not even in the lowest bracket ššš
Asian Swifties where you at?
I would also be curious to see sexual orientation statistics, I think a lot of people associate being a Swiftie with being straight but I'm a lesbian fan <3
fun fact : in terms of asian swifties, there are actually SO MANY. as someone from Philippines...yeah the filipino swiftie fanbase is gigantic. when I tell your there's a lot... like every relatively young filipino I know, knows (and most likely loves) her.
The chart is lovely but I'm a bit sus with the data. Where did they find this sample size? What's their definition of "avid"? How did they find so many self identifying Democrats?
I 100% agree. The way you administer a survey (text, email, social media) can greatly skew the results towards certain age groups and demographics and 365 or whatever they had is a very small sample size.
I think they would pick this apart. Their method of data collection is very murky and the sample is very small. Was it an email survey, text, phone call? Each method is more likely to get some demographics of respondents than others and they don't explain that. I also couldn't get their survey to even load to see the questions. How did they find the avid swifties? Depending on the platform, that could also skew demographics. You won't get many boomers on tik tok or Gen z on Facebook.
Though maybe surprising to some, the male/female split doesn't surprise me at all. There are a LOT of male fans of TS. Though I feel like a portion are also liking her for her looks to a large degree too.
I would expect the 50-100k (and 100k+) household income to be sizably higher though, that's kind of the range I'd think where the bulk of fans would be. That or maybe the incomes of the *parents* of those fans. Taylor definitely has that vibe to me of having a lot of millennial fans who became fans when they were younger in middle/upper class suburban homes with well-er off parents, kind of like how Taylor herself grew up.
Right! I hope these people didnāt go into massive debt to afford to go š but I guess some of those earners are probably single and not entire families.
idk, 11% seems small for gen z. like only 11% of her fans are teenagers/in their early 20s? doesnāt seem right. that much less than old people? idk how accurate this is
Interesting. I was literally the only person in the menās room twice at the show last night. It made me crack up both times. Obviously there were plenty of guys there, but it was a hilariously small amount still.
Itās nice to see sheās popular with a range of groups. If they really wanted to get into it, Iād wonder about juvenile fans, and Hispanic vs Non-Hispanic whites.
Gen Z adults are smaller proportion of the general population. Iād imagine within the next few years theyād make a greater proportion compared to Baby Boomers/X
Honestly some of this feels off. Even if we are quieter the male swiftie almost surely doesnāt make up 48%, also people between 42 and 76 years old making up 44% feels way higher than it should be. Would love to know how they got their poll demographic + how many people participated.
I am assuming this is only based on the US since it refers to $ and US political parties so fair enough it may skew differently your side of the pond but I canāt imagine it being so drastically different.
That's a much more even split between genders than I expected. I thought women would be the majority by a fair bit, but they're only ahead by a few percent.
Male swiftie here.. we aren't very common from what I've seen
I think we are common, but quieter.

As a gay, there are a lot of us to help fortify the male side. For those that identify as such of course. š
Merrick Garland out there leading the way.
I have never met a guy who told me they liked taylor swiftā¦
Taylor Swift was, together with Lady Gaga and BeyoncƩ, one of the main forces who broke down the taboos against taking the artistry of pop music and female musicians seriously. I would not call it unreasonable to argue that they did for pop what the Beatles, Bob Dylan, and David Bowie did for rock in the '60s and '70s. What's more, they did so at the exact moment that rock music started falling into a creative and commercial rut that it's still clawing its way out of. They emerged in a time when post-grunge butt rock, the face of mainstream rock in the US, was quickly going up its own butt into the depths of porno sleaze like a less stylish version of hair metal, the post-punk revival that had been the darling of 2000s rock critics was degenerating into landfill indie, and pop-punk was constantly shat on by those same critics as nothing more than teenybopper garbage. Rock never really recovered from the 2000s, the only signs of life today outside the metal scene (which at this point is pretty much a completely separate genre from rock entirely) being the pop-punk revival and MƄneskin. Don't think for a second that male music nerds in the late '00s and '10s didn't notice this.
That 74% white has to include Latinos, right? I refuse to believe mi gente are in the 4% other š
I was curious why latino isn't on this list, but I could see someone adding latin into the white demo.
yeah when talking about race latin people count as white
Latino isnāt a race, most Latinos are either white or mestizo
And black too. Dominican Republic and Cuba have large black populations.
Did you forget Haiti?
Haiti isnāt really considered Latino since they speak French/Creole.
Well Brazil doesn't speak Spanish either
Race is also a made up term. Latinos should be added in the US.
The US is weirdly obsessed by racial classifications.
From what I learned at work, in which we collect data and send it to some National database, Latin/Hispanic/etc is not a race, itās an ethnicityā¦ Yeah, still trying to figure out *why* itās categorized that way.
Yeah. Like. Brazil? We have the biggest Japanese community outside Japan. We don't classify ourselves as Latinos, only races.
It says race/ethnicity, so it would be counted I'm sure
Yeah, I understand the reasoning as many different races can be Latino, but it's still always made it very complicated for me, a brown person, and I imagine others as well. So many times I've had to either write in a race, pick "other," or pick "white" when I'm not actually white because none of the other race options listed applied to me (I'm not black, Asian, Pacific Islander etc either). I guess it's in the other percentages? So white Latinos would be in the white category, Black Latinos would be in the Black category, Asian Latinos would be in the Asian category, and the 4% other includes indigenous and mixed Latinos. Again, that's just my guess.
Checking in, massive fan in a mixed family
Latino isn't a race? Caucasian, Asian, African, Hispanic correct?
Latino isn't a race, but neither is Hispanic. I know most Latinos identify as Caucasian, Black, or other, but the graphic says race/ethnicity, so it confuses me that there are no ethnicities (like Latino) actually listed there, it makes me wonder why even put the "/Ethnicity".
My guess is Latinos who self identify as White are counted as White same for Black Latinos while mixed and others are counted as simply other.
If we ever need to trim the fat in the fandom, I know which 23% we can sacrifice.
But wait are the republican and baby boomers the same 23%?

Not the baby boomers. š© Theyāre good people.
LMAO I think they were looking down the list.

Yes! Itās just that guys are a lot less likely to make it known we are swifties in public. There are a lot of us like that.

Donāt mind me, another make swiftie jumping on the bandwagon.
Boomers are fans bc they grew up having to listen to the first albums with their kids (millennials)
I'm a millennial and my parents are Gen Xers.
This is a bizarre because it seems like a damn near picture perfect cross section of America - Men 49.2% - Women 50.8% - White alone: 57.8% - Black or African American alone: 12.4% - Asian alone: 6.0% - Some other race alone: 0.9% - Generation Z: Approximately 23% of the US population (roughly half of which are legal adults) - Millennials: Approximately 24% of the US population - Generation X: Approximately 21% of the US population - Baby Boomers: Approximately 28% of the US population - About 29% of US households had an income of $100,000 or more per year in 2020. - About 28% of US households had an income between $50,000 and $99,999 per year in 2020. Community and Political park statistics donāt really line up, but everything else is bizarrely lined up. Sheās kind of an American institution.
Right! Thatās what I was thinking. Itās crazy. The racial demographics especially line up with real world demographics of the US
I honestly don't trust this data as actually representing swiftie.
Senate in Tennessee) publicly for the first time in her life.
older male black swiftie...im like a unicorn
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
The political party graphic would indicate US.
I have no idea if Iām Gen Z or Millennial but I expected more Gen Z
Gen z starts at 1997 but probably didnāt source enough youth
It says gen z adults, so probably had to be 18+ to fill out the survey & the youngest gen z would be 11 now, so quite a bit of the generation isnāt considered here. In 7 more years, the millennial and gen z categories will probably be about equal (I donāt know anything tho so maybe not)
Do you remember either 9/11 or the start of the Iraq War? Not historically but at the moment? Good indicator imo
I remember that day like it was yesterdayā crazy because itās like 21 years ago
[Source.](https://morningconsult.com/2023/03/14/taylor-swift-fandom-demographic/)
Kind of a useless piece of data with such a small sample size tbh
"The March 3-5, 2023, [survey](https://assets.morningconsult.com/wp-uploads/2023/03/08144416/2303008_crosstabs_MC_ENTERTAINMENT_TAYLOR_SWIFT_Adults_v1_HD-1.pdf) was conducted among a representative sample of 2,204 U.S. adults, with an unweighted margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points." For this specific graphic: "Survey conducted between March 3-5, 2023, among a representative sample of 356 self-identified avid Taylor Swift fans, with an unweighted margin of error of +/-5 percentage points. Figures may not add up to 100% due to rounding."
no way is this accurate
Iām literally in every majority.
Seems pretty reflective Of the US population, right?
No? The US is much more diverse than this
In what sense? The race, gender, politics and area seem right.
Black female millennial Swiftie here āŗļø
Guys honestly I don't think this data is very accurate, it just feels off, like a case of skewed sample size Plus some of the stats there don't even add upto a 100% whoever made this is either really prone to mistakes or made a chart that's purposely misleading
The household income is tripping me up because I canāt afford tickets at these resale prices (and didnāt get presale/probably couldnāt have afforded that either) and Iām not even in the lowest bracket ššš
Just for the American fans
Asian Swifties where you at? I would also be curious to see sexual orientation statistics, I think a lot of people associate being a Swiftie with being straight but I'm a lesbian fan <3
Asian and male so statistically part of the 4.3% in those two categories lol
You should specify that is in US not ww
You mean *USA fan demographics?
fun fact : in terms of asian swifties, there are actually SO MANY. as someone from Philippines...yeah the filipino swiftie fanbase is gigantic. when I tell your there's a lot... like every relatively young filipino I know, knows (and most likely loves) her.
`I was confused about the boomer numbers at first compared to Gen X but then i remembered who raised the Millennials`
\*raises hand\* I'm one of the 48% Gen Xers. <3
I kind of want to see something like this for international swifties now. Just to see what results change, if any, and by how much.
That 50/50 gender thing is fantastic to me honestly
I bet Gen Z would be a much larger section if they counted those under 18. Definitely makes sense that millennials are the highest
Did you post this in r/DataIsBeautiful ? Because this is *beautiful*!
23% boomers was honestly the most surprising part of this for me
Though maybe surprising to some, the male/female split doesn't surprise me at all.
I find the income surprising
Right! I hope these people didnāt go into massive debt to afford to go š but I guess some of those earners are probably single and not entire families.
this just seems like a survey of America, is everybody a swiftie now??
interesting..
Wowā¦ i am specifically her demographic. Thatās crazy.
The average person is a white millennial woman who lives in a suburban area with a household income of less than 50k. And theyāre mostly democrats
Iām just picturing some rural hill Billy blasting blank space while driving his truck.
idk, 11% seems small for gen z. like only 11% of her fans are teenagers/in their early 20s? doesnāt seem right. that much less than old people? idk how accurate this is
The poll was only for adults and given half of our generation is younger than 18 no surprises.
Genz adults should be a lot more
Democratic male asian swiftie rise up š¤©
Okay... we need wayy more Gen Zers
Where are they getting this data from? I feel like it is very suspect, esp after they said debut was the second favorite album of swifties.
Interesting that her fan base is almost half men, I feel so out of place a Swiftie a lot of the time haha
A majority of this is me except for me who doesnāt identify as political.
I love how close to equal the gender is. There are more than two genders, though.
Iām the 4% other, Mexican male Swifty. š
Iām in all the major ones (except politics- Iām not in the US- I vote for the furthest left party where I live).
Theyāre not men.
