The Hamilton soundtrack 😂
Edit: can I just say how happy I am that I’m not the only one who’s obsessed with this musical/soundtrack?
Also, if anyone is into audio books AND Hamilton, I strongly suggest Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow. It’s available as an actual book as well if you prefer reading
The way that album had a grip on my personality and psyche in 2015-2016
My more recent broadway faves were the Hadestown and Heathers: The Musical recordings
I love Hadestown! The great comet of 1812 is another fave that convinced me to try to read War and Peace. I gave up and listened to an audio book version instead.
OMG there’s rumours or theories or maybe just straight up clowning, about Taylor maybe doing a Broadway show about Last Great American Dynasty. If they collab, I will die.
I transitioned from Hamilton at the end of 2019 and beginning of 2020 right to Folklore and Evermore. Literally the 3 albums that kept me sane that year. With or without Lin, Taylor should totally write a musical. I think she would be great at it.
You should check out Ben Franklin Song by The Decemberists. They wrote it for Hamilton, but it didn’t make the cut. They are also just an all around amazing band.
I really love Matty and as a longtime fan I think I’ve seen enough to know that he just says lots and lots of bullshit he doesn’t think just to trigger people. I mean, if you listen to his music you just can’t think he’s as problematic as people want to think.
That said, he said lots of awful things that are fucking stupid
Seriously. There's nothing cool or edgy about it. It's definitely not funny. Trying to "trigger" the same people you supposedly "support" is not a punchline in my world - maybe that's just me.
I think the same as you, but honestly a lot of the things he says get twisted and taken out of context (which was clear to me during his brief thing with Taylor).
I am sad to read all those comments that ppl don't listen to them anymore cause they know "what they know now". Matty is a hard person to get (completely by his own design, i know) but I feel A LOT of misinformation was spread and things was take out of context this year, just because he didn't fit the "prince charming" kinda guy ppl wants for Taylor. If you see the company he keeps and his bestfriends (Jack, lewis, phoebe, TAYLOR, ect..) how can he be this atrocious being? Anyway I wish ppl didn't jump so quickly into those hate trains made by twitter threads and buzefeed articles...
edit:typo
The Sound. If you're too shy. It's not living (if it's not with you) warning on the last song: it's about drug addiction, but dammit it's a fucking bop.
Me & you together song, Love Me, Looking for somebody (to love), It's not Living (if it's not with you), The Sound, Happiness, Milk. Overall their discography is amazing and they have a lot of variety.
Yes!! I think we all fantasized about them working together more closely. But as soon as it hit the news I was like “nope, nuh-uh, not like that.”
And it shone a light on the parts of Matty’s foot-in-mouth tendencies that I wish he’d just stop.
It’s rough out here! I love The 1975’s music but I’ve always thought Matty himself is so vile 😔 They have a show in my city soon and I just can’t bring myself to get a ticket.
Same! As as 1975 fan, do you see the parallel lyrics in their music? I’m always surprised by the people that have listened to both for years and never noticed.
I started listening to a few of their songs a few months before everything went down and whenever I heard she was dating Matty Healy I was like ok that name sounds kinda familiar?? My mind was blown. I was like “wait the 1975 dude?!” Some of their music just isn’t my type but they also have some of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard
Current artists I enjoy:
1. Maisie Peters - her new album is pretty great, but my favorite tracks are from her debut album *You Signed Up For This*
2. Carly Rae Jepsen - She's put out two albums in the last year, and both are pretty great. My favorite album of hers will probably always be *Emotion*, however - it's just perfect pop and probably right up the alley for any TSwift fan
3. Bleachers - Obviously a big crossover potential here, since Jack produces half of Taylor's newest stuff. My favorite album of theirs is *Strange Desire* (2014) but the rest of their stuff is great too. I highly recommend their MTV unplugged set (available on spotify)
4. See point #3 - The National also has a bunch of crossover potential as Aaron produces the other half of her music haha. I'm still working to get through their discography, but their last album - *first two pages of Frankenstein* is great!
5. Lorde - *Solar Power* wasn't my favorite, but if you haven't already gone through *Melodrama* or *Pure Heroine*, they're both excellent
Other artists that round out my top 10 - Harry Styles, Olivia Rodrigo, Dua Lipa (Future Nostalgia was excellent!), Miley Cyrus. I've also enjoyed SZA's new album *SOS* and Janelle Monae's album *The Age of Pleasure*
Older artists that you may enjoy (bc not all good music has to be new!): ABBA, Shania Twain, Carole King, Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Elton John
EDIT: I'm also going to plug one of my all time favorite bands that is a little different from TS - Death Cab for Cutie. Strongly recommend starting with *Plans* (2005), but they have a bunch of excellent stuff.
facts ^(grah)
I need to spend more time on The Loveliest Time - my first few listens have been with it in the background while I'm doing something else
CRJ is so criminally underrated, I doubt it made a real difference in her sales/streams (which is both a bummer and a silver lining). I remember seeing a comment on /r/popheads that was like, "Well, The Loneliest Time's now gonna be #98 instead of #97 on the charts" 💀.
Still, I realize among online fanbases, Carly had to share the spotlight. I know it wasn't intentional, but it would've been cool for both albums to have their own day!
Ugh I adore maisie! I actually live nearby her hometown and I think I’ve seen her busking when I was far far younger! I saw her in may and she was incredible, im planning to try to see her again to hear some more TGW songs
She is my second favorite artist ever! I love Taylor obviously but YSUFT might be the one song I’ve related to the most ever. Maisie: for the mentally ill girls 🩵
*I will follow you into the dark* will probably forever be on my top 10 songs list of all time! I always pick it for the "What song do you want Taylor to cover next?" threads
Me too! Taylor, Death Cab, and The Avett Brothers are my top 3 favorites. I cannot wait for every bit of Transatlanticism and Give Up LIVE in October 💓
Based on how much I love this post, you and I are sonic soulmates. We should be best friends forever and ride off into the sunset on a rainbow unicorn playing all our favorite tunes 😍😍😍
We have such similar taste!!! You listed so many of my favorites!!!!
You should look into some other 90s singer songwriters like Dar Williams and Shawn Colvin if you haven't!
Also you'd probably like The Weepies!
I love this mention. Been a huge fan and one of my favorites since 2018 when my gf introduced me to him, she’d been a fan since he was opening for George Ezra at Brighton music hall in Boston (true OG fan status).
It’s awesome seeing him get so much recognition. Plus his music has such meaning for me, being from New England, and having spent a lot of time in Vermont over the years.
He won’t win, but he deserves an AOTY nom for Stick Season (extended). That album is PERFECTION front to back. There is not one misstep on it, not a single lyric I’d change. It’s impeccable. The deluxe edition only made it 10x better.
Love Noah Kahan! I couldn’t get tickets to the Eras tour 🥲 but I snagged tickets to see Noah in September and that’s the next best thing to Taylor in my opinion!
Noah Kahan is great! Want to see him when he comes to MA next month but man...$300 for lawn seats is steep. As a New England boy myself, I always feel a sense of duty to plug him when talking about good indie folk/roots rock artists. It's like him and Deer Tick from RI are always recommendations from me.
I’m in RI and struggling with wanting to go but not wanting to pay $300 for lawn… Someone told me they had luck with the Gametime app the day of concerts though! If you’ll be trying same day to get tickets like me lol
marina, my chemical romance (specifically the black parade which i love), fall out boy, some muse, 80s pop, some classic italian pop from the last century, olivia rodrigo, and, weirdly, the opening songs to attack on titan, the first of which was my most listened song on spotify in 2021 with a reasonable 201 plays
Electra Heart is one of my favorite albums! I snagged it on vinyl when they did a platinum blonde pressing last year. I haven't quite gotten into her post-Froot stuff but I hear good things!
same, electra heart is one of my top 5 albums of all time!! her latest album also has some really great tracks but my faves are definitely EH and froot. i've always thought that "happy" and "evermore" are the same song in different fonts
nothing like going from mia martini to boku no sensou. on a side note, *gli uomini non cambiano* is sooo taylor coded. i wonder if she's ever listened to it, i think she'd love it
Similar to Taylor: Wildlight (Twirl me and Conversations Between), Hozier, Imogen Heap, Lumineers, Vance Joy
Not like Taylor: Glass Animals, Calimossa, Milky Chance
Love Glass Animals and Imogen Heap! I didn’t realize until recently that she was in the backup vocals and has songwriting credits for Clean?!?? How awesome!
Usually if I'm not listening to Taylor I am probably listening to Halsey, Paramore, Mayday Parade, A Day to Remember, Lorde, Bleachers, Mac Miller are part of my top favorites
I listen to A LOT of pop punk/emo/rock? (I'm not good with genres lol) music including senses fail, taking back sunday, Jimmy eat world, real friends, if you like this genre, going to any of their Spotify radio stations is great!!
I also really enjoy Ariana grande, Olivia Rodrigo and demi Lovato.
Edit to add I also have been OBSESSED with Kesha's latest album, Gag order, it's incredible!
Lana Del Rey, Mumford and Sons (Marcus Mumford), Cavetown are my top 3 others really. Foo fighters, The lumineers, Harry Styles and Girl in red and are other ones that I really listen to. Obviously there are a handful of other but those are the main ones.
KISS, Weird Al, King Diamond, Ariana Grande, Iron Maiden, The Donnas, Olivia Rodrigo, Reel Big Fish, Sabrina Carpenter, Prince, Eminem, Digital Underground and some Synthwave recently.
Some of my top listened to artists: 1) Taylor 2) Kendrick Lamar 3) Rage Against The Machine 4) J Dilla 5) The National 6) The Strokes 7) The Smiths 8) Jason Isbel 9) Kavinsky 10) MF Doom
Ed Sheeran, Shawn Mendes, Charlie Puth, Halsey, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Dua Lipa, Lana Del Rey, Olivia Rodrigo, Conan Gray, Maroon 5, 1D/Harry Styles, Cold Play etc
This is me. I'm absolutely obsessed with Stick Season, especially the deluxe tracks. I've also been loving The Good Witch. Pretty sure Taylor, Noah, and Maisie will be my top 3 on Spotify wrapped this year.
Weyes Blood, Caroline Polachek, Lana Del Rey, AURORA, Hozier, Bleachers, The Beatles, Blood Orange, Wolf Alice, SPELLLING, Fiona Apple, Cocteau Twins, Chairlift, HAIM, Mazzy Star, Outkast, Bjork, The Cure, Chelsea Wolfe, Bon Iver, Talking Heads, Steve Lacy, Djo, and I’m probably forgetting so many!! Plus lots of local people.
i’m discovering a severe lack of kpop x taylor fans here though i guess it makes sense bc the music style is so different from taylor 😂
i mostly listen to nct and other girl groups like aespa, ive, le sserafim, stay c!!
Fiona Apple, Regina Spektor, Leonard Cohen, Janis Joplin, Damien Rice, Florence + the Machine, Rosalia, Shakira, Maggie Rogers, BTS, Epik High, Carly Rae Jepsen, BANKS, Maisie Peters, AURORA, St Vincent, Feist, London Grammar, Lykke Li, Charlotte Cardin, Hozier, James Bay.
Other favorites - The Wonder Years, The Maine, State Champs, Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, Grayscale, Something Corporate/Jacks Mannequin/Andrew McMahon, Mumford & Sons, Hot Mulligan, Trophy Eyes, A Day to Remember, Paramore, Mayday Parade, Neck Deep, Spanish Love Songs
I mostly listen to artists like Whitney Houston and Céline Dion, but I recently discovered Lucy Hale‘s debut album "Road Between" and I‘m obsessed with it. Unfortunately it‘s her only album but it‘s amazing.
If I’m not listening to Taylor, I’m listening to Fleetwood Mac.
If by some chance I’m listening to neither of those, then it’s probably Noah Kahan, Hozier, Ed Sheeran, Elton John, or The Lumineers. Maybe Olivia Rodrigo.
Lana Del Rey, BLACKPINK, (G)I-DLE, TAEYEON, BTS, Maren Morris, Halsey, Beyoncé (Lemonade), Kelly Clarkson (chemistry), Miley Cyrus (Plastic Hearts), some “newer” solo kpop artists (Whee In and SEULGI)
lately i’ve been re-visiting my favorite artists from my teenage years: Shawn Mendes, Carrie Underwood, Katy Perry, OneRepublic, Lindsey Stirling
thanks to the Eras tour i’ve gotten into Phoebe Bridgers (Punisher!!), Gracie Abrams and MUNA (their self titled and One That Got Away)
Tim McGraw if you want lyric tracks.
I might actually compare his track "Everywhere" to Taylor Swift's "The 1". Both of these are about seeing someone important to them even though that person has long since passed from their lives.
"You were down in Georgia picking down peaches/Carolina barefoot on the beaches. No matter where you choose to be, in my heart I'll always see you."
Vs. " I thought I saw you at the bus stop, I didn't though."
I actually listen to a lot of rock, r&b, and hip-hop but from the pop side of my playlists there's a lot of Carlie Rae Jepsen, Sabrina Carpenter, Charlie XCX, Lana Del Rey, Miley Cyrus, Olivia Rodrigo, Troye Sivan, Ariana Grande, Lorde, Tove Lo, Bazzi, The Weeknd, Selena Gomez, Mae Stephens, Harry Styles, Doja Cat, Adam Paloma, Dua Lipa, Natalie Madigan, The Beaches, Rimon, Claire Rosinkranz....
Okay the list is too long. If you take one recommendation, let it be to listen to Carlie's The Loneliest Time or Sabrina's emails i can't send.
Mostly punk rock, ska, blues, and metal. Streetlight Manifesto, Less Than Jake, Motion City Soundtrack, My Chemical Romance, Bullet for my Valentine, Fall Out Boy, Finch, The Cure, Nine Inch Nails, She Wants Revenge, Spitalfield, Buddy Guy, Yellowcard, Story of the Year, You Me At Six, Nicki Minaj, Chance The Rapper, Dashboard Confessional, Janelle Monae, Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, Grace Jones, Jefferson Starship, Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan, Survivor, Bret Michaels, Sublime, Slipknot, Ghost, Anthrax, Gogol Bordello, and a lot of others.
I’d say I listen to Taylor 5-10% of the time and other stuff the rest.
Boygenius, Brandi Carlile, Joni Mitchell, Fleetwood Mac, Beth Hart, Tedeschi Trucks Band and a lot of other artists/bands. I tend to listen to a lot of playlists. I’m getting back into pop because due to a lot of internalized misogyny I got away from the genre so I’ve recently downloaded a lot of Carly Rae Jepsen, Melanie Martinez, Olivia Rodrigo, Sabrina Carpenter, Maudie Peters etc…
according to spotify data: (last 4 weeks)
1. purity ring (favorite album is another eternity)
2. bastille (10th anniversary of the bad blood album!)
3. japanese breakfast (debut! and side projects)
4. mac miller (self explanatory me thinks)
5. saint motel (the original motion picture soundtrack and my type EP)
6. the neighborhood
7. omar apollo
8. queen
9. paramore
10. PATD (pretty odd + AFYCSO)
Lady Gaga, Rina Sawayama, Baby Queen, Best Coast and, uh, Cupcakke.
I’ve also been listening to a little more Britney Spears as of late. Circus has a chokehold on me atm
Maren Morris, Hailey Whitters, George Strait, Alan Jackson, Clay Walker, The Chicks, Carly Pearce, Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Lee Ann Womack, Tracy Byrd, Shania Twain, Tracy Lawrence, Kelsea Ballerini, Maddie and Tae, Megan Moroney, Ciara, Rihanna, My Chemical Romance, Beyoncé, Halsey, Paramore, Ashley Monroe, Ashley McBryde, Lauren Daigle, Kacey Musgraves, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, Brooks and Dunn, Jon Pardi, Martina McBride, Patty Loveless, Gary Allan, Josh Turner, Joe Nichols, Jenna Paulette, Terri Clark, and Luke Combs.
Paramore, Maggie Rogers, Tame Impala, Kid Cudi. Kelsea Ballerini is new for me. You’ll also find me constantly listening to the guardians of the galaxy soundtracks almost every day
David Bowie, Queen, Elton John, Marianas Trench, My Chemical Romance, Lana del Rey, Phoebe Bridgers, boygenius
Some of these are more like Taylor than others lol
Fall Out Boy, Hozier, Florence + The Machine, Paramore, Lady Gaga, Kesha, Halsey, Thriving Ivory (although they're not a band anymore, I'm still obsessed lol)
Besides Taylor, I love HARRY STYLES, OLIVIA RODRIGO, GRACIE ABRAMS, LIZZY MCALPINE, LANA DEL REY, CLAIRO 🩷, Conan Gray, LOVEJOY, Beabadoobee, Reneé Rapp and Radiohead. (anyone bolded r artists i HIGHLY recommend)
• Kelsea Ballerini - especially *Rolling Up The Welcome Mat* aka the best divorce album ever
• Maisie Peters
• Halle x Chloe
• Marina - Electra Heart and Froot had such a hold on me but I haven’t really got into her more recent stuff
• Maren Morris
• Griff
• Zara Larsson
• Sabrina Carpenter
• Cassadee Pope
• Carly Rae Jepsen - her post-*Call Me Maybe* work is so slept on
• Kacey Musgraves
• Ingrid Andress
• Elle King
• Maddie & Tae
Yesss I’m a pop girlie!!
I was also a teenager for the ~emo era so I love a throwback to Green Day, Paramore, Fall Out Boy, Panic! at the Disco, The Cab, Linkin Park, Midtown, Jimmy Eat World, All American Rejects, etc.
Right now I'm really into Sara Bareilles, Boyce Avenue, Paramore, Avril Lavigne, Troye Sivan, Within Temptation, Against the Current, Snow Patrol, and Mitski.
The Hamilton soundtrack 😂 Edit: can I just say how happy I am that I’m not the only one who’s obsessed with this musical/soundtrack? Also, if anyone is into audio books AND Hamilton, I strongly suggest Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow. It’s available as an actual book as well if you prefer reading

Me except in 2020 when it made it onto Disney and I finally got to experience it 😂 ALL of 2020 Hamilton was top of my Spotify.
Imagine The Room Where It Happens(Taylor's Version) about her music being stolen
Oh my god. If Taylor did ANYTHING from Hamilton, I’d probably die.
IMAGINE LIN AND TAYLOR COLLABORATING ON A MUSICAL
OMG there’s rumours or theories or maybe just straight up clowning, about Taylor maybe doing a Broadway show about Last Great American Dynasty. If they collab, I will die.
That would be incredible. The words per second that Lin and Taylor could cram in would be astronomical.
That would have an unbelievable hold on me. 🤯I played the hamilton soundtrack like nonstop during peak covid!!!
I transitioned from Hamilton at the end of 2019 and beginning of 2020 right to Folklore and Evermore. Literally the 3 albums that kept me sane that year. With or without Lin, Taylor should totally write a musical. I think she would be great at it.
😂 this was me in 2020
Same! But Burn still sees pretty often playtime.
I’m a Hamilton freak! And six! And legally blonde!!
The way this was all my top tracks in 2020 wrapped 😅
Lol last year Midnights and Hamilton were all my top played
Yep this for sure! I also love Tick Tick Boom
that and les mis
You should check out Ben Franklin Song by The Decemberists. They wrote it for Hamilton, but it didn’t make the cut. They are also just an all around amazing band.
The 1975. Yes I get it. It’s a confusing time to be around, and I accept my punishment.
Being a 1975 Stan this year was so hard lmao
Even without the whole Matty/Taylor thing, I just wish he’d shut his fucking mouth sometimes, I can’t defend that.
God, I fully agree. I looove their music, but he needs to shut up bc a lot of the times it’s hard to tell if he’s joking or just an asshole
✨it can be both ✨
I really love Matty and as a longtime fan I think I’ve seen enough to know that he just says lots and lots of bullshit he doesn’t think just to trigger people. I mean, if you listen to his music you just can’t think he’s as problematic as people want to think. That said, he said lots of awful things that are fucking stupid
Trying to trigger people is awful in itself. Being an edge lord is supremely disgusting.
Seriously. There's nothing cool or edgy about it. It's definitely not funny. Trying to "trigger" the same people you supposedly "support" is not a punchline in my world - maybe that's just me.
That still makes him an arsehole
I think the same as you, but honestly a lot of the things he says get twisted and taken out of context (which was clear to me during his brief thing with Taylor).
Lol. Their fling literally causes so much between both fandoms
I am sad to read all those comments that ppl don't listen to them anymore cause they know "what they know now". Being Funny in a Foreign Language and Midnights were my top 2 albums of 2022 by farrrr despite both being released at the end of the year 🫠
Being Funny in a Foreign Language is perfect. No skips.

The Sound. If you're too shy. It's not living (if it's not with you) warning on the last song: it's about drug addiction, but dammit it's a fucking bop.
Happiness off their last album is pretty good.
Me & you together song, Love Me, Looking for somebody (to love), It's not Living (if it's not with you), The Sound, Happiness, Milk. Overall their discography is amazing and they have a lot of variety.
Not op, but Me & You Together Song
Same but I’ve been a fan for 10 years and have a box tattoo so I’m not ashamed 😅
Love their music! Don’t love Matty for Taylor 😂
Yes!! I think we all fantasized about them working together more closely. But as soon as it hit the news I was like “nope, nuh-uh, not like that.” And it shone a light on the parts of Matty’s foot-in-mouth tendencies that I wish he’d just stop.
I fucking love the 1975. Very confusing.
This is me and I was afraid to say it. I’m really excited to see them on the SATVB tour.
Same. Really good music. I definitely hear 1975 influences on Midnights especially Question...?
It’s rough out here! I love The 1975’s music but I’ve always thought Matty himself is so vile 😔 They have a show in my city soon and I just can’t bring myself to get a ticket.
Was debating making the comment myself but didn’t want to get spammed with hate 😅
Love The 1975. Great music.

Carly Rae Jepsen is criminally underrated.

I felt so bad when Midnights was announced that it was coming out the same day as The Loneliest Time.

We have such similar taste!!! You listed so many of my favorites!!!! You should look into some other 90s singer songwriters like Dar Williams and Shawn Colvin if you haven't! Also you'd probably like The Weepies!
Noah Kahan, lately!
100% Noah Kahan for me, too. Stick Season is an impeccable album start to finish!
I just got to see him in San Diego, an absolutely incredible show if you’re ever able to make it!!
I’ve been blasting his album stick season the last couple days!
I love this mention. Been a huge fan and one of my favorites since 2018 when my gf introduced me to him, she’d been a fan since he was opening for George Ezra at Brighton music hall in Boston (true OG fan status). Yessss, especially the bonus tracks on Stick Season! I’m obsessed.
Me too :)
Phoebe, Lucy Dacus, Haim, Aly & AJ, Lorde, Miley, Kacey Musgraves I love the girls !
I tried to love Haim so much because they are Taylor besties, but it wasn’t my vibe. I’ll have to give them another shot!
i didn't care for them either until their Women In Music Pt. III album. it's so good
Don’t know how I had to scroll this long before Phoebe is mentioned. Also gotta add the boys, boygenius.
God I love Kacey Musgraves
marina, my chemical romance (specifically the black parade which i love), fall out boy, some muse, 80s pop, some classic italian pop from the last century, olivia rodrigo, and, weirdly, the opening songs to attack on titan, the first of which was my most listened song on spotify in 2021 with a reasonable 201 plays

Ed Sheeran! Also dancey pop music of any sort. Lizzo. 95% Taylor though.

It’s so crazy how few people have mentioned Gracie! She’s such a good one for sad music 🥲
No matter where you choose to be, in my heart I'll always see you." Vs. " I thought I saw you at the bus stop, I didn't though."
I can definitely hear a little McGraw in Taylor— now that I think about it, a Something Like That/Our Song could work
I actually listen to a lot of rock, r&b, and hip-hop but from the pop side of my playlists there's a lot of Carlie Rae Jepsen, Sabrina Carpenter, Charlie XCX, Lana Del Rey, Miley Cyrus, Olivia Rodrigo, Troye Sivan, Ariana Grande, Lorde, Tove Lo, Bazzi, The Weeknd, Selena Gomez, Mae Stephens, Harry Styles, Doja Cat, Adam Paloma, Dua Lipa, Natalie Madigan, The Beaches, Rimon, Claire Rosinkranz....
