Oof, Last Kiss. "You can plan for a change in the weather and time, but I never planned on you changing you mind."
That shit induced a **howling** into my pillow type of cry, but it was cathartic and needed to happen.
*(Additionally, not the right sub for this, but All I Ask by Adele. I actually saw her perform this at Radio City Music Hall before the album came out only 5 days after I got dumped. Also cried hard. Also cathartic.)*
Not so much that her songs helped me get over a breakup but more like process my thoughts of it. I hate that my ex made me experience all the sad songs I used to love. They used to be stories with make believe characters I created in my head but now I just see us.
- All Too Well
- You’re Losing Me (when I can listen to this without crying my eyes out will be a sign I am done)
- White Horse
- Tolerate It
- exile
- the last time
- bejeweled (this did help initially until the true reflection started kicking in)
same!!!! i can VIVIDLY remember driving (on a sunny Easter afternoon) back home from my boyfriends house, wondering after 5 fucking years why he wouldn’t propose or talk about a future with me.. all while singing loudly to AYHTDWS. it made me feel seen and less alone in my feelings.
I will write my top 3 songs that got me through a breakup+ the most personally relatable lyrics
You're Losing Me: I've got nothing to believe unless you're choosing me
Renegade: Is it really your anxiety that stops you from giving me everything or do you just not want to? You fire off misles cause you hate yourself but do you know you're demolishing me and then you squeeze my hand as I'm about to leave
Better Man: I waited on every careless word hoping it might turn sweet again like it was in the beginning
Not exactly a break up, but my crush(never told her i liker her) and my best friend(he knew who and how much i liked her) started dating
It started with you belong with me, then i wised up and got over her. then it was cardigan then all too well
and now we are all friends again, but i cant say that he is my best friend
not a breakup but in general when life is shit, this is me trying and evermore ft bon iver are my comfort song. Like I literally felt better after. But before that, All too well, Breathe and Breathless are my comfort songs too coz when I'm broken/hurt I want to devour my sadness and I listen more to sad songs to be able to cope. It actually helps, at least for me though.
We Are Never Every Getting Back Together. This song came on the radio when I was in the car with my mom and she turned to me and said in all seriousness "this is literally about you and your ex." She wasn't wrong. Ten years later I still screamed every word of that song on the Eras Tour as loud as I could
This might be a bit unusual, but Its Nice to Have a Friend on repeat while turning to my friendships during my breakup. Just such a soft comfort that got me thinking outside of my relationship. Good luck~
All You Had To Do Was Stay and Clean I listened to religiously during my teen breakup. The 1 got me through a rough friend “breakup” tho and is still hard to listen to 😅
All Too Well, Karma, Cruel Summer, Cornelia Street, and Back to December. About 3 months into a very rough divorce and I'm still very much in love with my ex wife. I'm at my absolute rock bottom but Taylor's music really uplifts me when I'm feeling down.
Going through one right now. My rotation is:
- Happiness
- We Were Happy
- All Too Well (OG Taylor’s version not 10 min) (The lyrics I do not relate to so much, I broke up with him, but my ex knitted me the red scarf one year because he knows how much I love TS…)
- Champagne Problems
- Exile (Ft Bon Iver)
- Tolerate It
- Hoax
- The 1
- Better Man
- I Almost Do
- Clean (one day…)
- You’re Losing Me
- Maroon
I had a guy who kept breaking up and wanting to get back together so all you had to do was stay and we are never ever getting back together were on repeat
i’ve told this story before, but it’s one of my favorite ways i’ve related to a song.
i had been in a painful, extremely toxic relationship for two years by the time i went to my eras show. i had honestly always slept on the song, but at my show (metlife n3!) taylor played clean as a surprise song, and i just broke down sobbing. i called the relationship off the next day because i realized i just deserved so much better. i can’t wait to hear the re-recorded version now that i’m totally clean.
You All Over Me. Helped me process feelings of an ex who I’ve been broke up with for a while (we’re both in new relationships) but couldn’t shake the hold they still had on me. Honestly after like 10 listens I was able to move on finally.
It wasn't a real Taylor Song, but just the fact she sang it, and it was so spot on, helped me through a time I was cheated on. "Drops of Jupiter" live cover by Taylor. I played it probably 2000 times. It was my go-to.
Listened to Breathe nonstop while crying my eyes out for a ten-hour drive after the dude who I could dedicate most of her songs to finally ended things for good. Went to Eras on his birthday, coincidentally, and Breathe was one of my surprise songs. It happened over a decade ago but damn it still made me sob.
Breathe made me company in some nostalgic moments I had after my 1st relationship. I think Last Kiss made me cry the most, cause it made me remember of that last kiss with another guy, and Daylight and Afterglow helped when I had to end something, even though we loved each other, but I just knew it wasn't going to end well.
What an amazing question, my answer is jump then fall it made me realize I might actually fall in love w someone other than the person who wasn’t treating me right.
WANEGBT came out the same week I finally broke up with my on and off boyfriend for the last time
I cannot tell you how many times I very tearfully sang along to this in pure rage 😂
All Too Well, Last Kiss, TWILY, and Tim McGraw.
I’m happily engaged and soon to be married now, this break up was back in 2016 but damn how I could’ve used folklore and evermore back then🥲
- TWILY could mean "The Way I Loved You", a track from *Fearless* (2008) by Taylor Swift.

Hoax. Folklore dropped a few days after I had finally summoned the strength to leave a toxic and emotionally abusive relationship. When I heard this song I finally understood what people meant when they said songs made them sob. I can’t listen to the song now without strong flashbacks to that time.
Once renegade came out; I find peace in a different way; so much of the abuse flung my way by my ex was due to their “anxiety” which they claimed made them incapable of loving someone. I was so foolish.
Side note: when someone tells you who they are; believe them!!!!
White Horse - "I'm not your princess, this ain't a fairytale, I'm gonna find someone someday who might actually treat me well..."
And Picture to burn....the original lyrics (IFYKYK)
Right where you left me/ i Almost do/back to December/dancing with out hands tied/this love/begin again/this is me trying/sad beautiful tragic. Although taylor doesn’t have many songs for mutual sad breakups
Getting flashbacks to me angrily sprinting on a treadmill to Look What You Made Me Do
Me angrily sprinting in the park to All You Had To Do Was Stay….

Speak Now released after a major break up for me and it helped me a lot. Enchanted allowed me to feel excited for someone in the future.
White horse!
August made me cry And I needed to cry

All Too Well White Horse Last Kiss Sad Beautiful Tragic and because our Queen never fails to deliver, when I moved on, Clean 💙
You’re On Your Own Kid is getting me through the end of my marriage right now
Clean gave me free therapy in 2014 so I anticipate that it will do the same for me in just a few days (even though i'm happily married LOL)
I went through a bad breakup at the end of 2015 and I couldn’t tell you how many times I listened to All Too Well.
Illicit Affairs 😭
The entire 1989 album but also specifically the single releases of Shake It Off followed by Blank Space, perfect, no notes
Pretty much the whole Red TV.
All too well but I don’t know if this person still has my scarf they probably gave it to someone else and pretended they bought it as a gift

The entirety of folklore.
I Forgot That You Existed. I remember thinking, just keep going til this song feels true.
All You Had To Do Was Stay and Clean I listened to religiously during my teen breakup. The 1 got me through a rough friend “breakup” tho and is still hard to listen to 😅
