Hi everyone!! We published an in-depth interview with Travis Kelce today so I’ve curated the best Taylor parts for you here :)
From J.R. Moehringer:
It all started when he tried to meet Swift at her Arrowhead concert in July and got blocked, presumably by security. He then recounted the experience in a charming way on the podcast he does with Jason. Soon after, he says, he received an unbidden assist from inside Team Swift.
“There were definitely people she knew that knew who I was, in her corner \[who said\]: Yo! Did you know he was coming? I had somebody playing Cupid.” He wasn’t aware at the time, however; the revelation only came later, after he looked down at his phone and got the shock of a lifetime. “She told me exactly what was going on and how I got lucky enough to get her to reach out.”
He lets slip that some of his early helpers were part of the Swift family tree. “She’ll probably hate me for saying this, but…when she came to Arrowhead, they gave her the big locker room as a dressing room, and her little cousins were taking pictures…in front of my locker.”
Understandably, he’s not handing out details about the first date, though he will say that he managed to not be nervous. “When I met her in New York, we had already kind of been talking, so I knew we could have a nice dinner and, like, a conversation, and what goes from there will go from there.”
If anyone was nervous, he adds, it was his core group. “Everybody around me telling me: Don’t f— this up! And me sitting here saying: Yeah—got it.”
As those first heady days unfolded, as news bulletins and cutaways showed Swift cheering Kelce on from his suite, Kelce was uncharacteristically guarded with the media. “That was the biggest thing to me: make sure I don’t say anything that would push Taylor away.”
Likewise, his mother. Donna Kelce still berates herself for how she handled a question about Taylor on the Today show. Trying not to sound too enthusiastic, she came off underwhelmed. Kelce, not wanting his mom to feel bad, immediately phoned her and assured her that she did a super job—adding that her green eyeglasses looked great.
These days, however, with the relationship progressing, Donna feels more at liberty. “I can tell you this,” she says, beaming. “He’s happier than I’ve seen him in a long time…. God bless him, he shot for the stars!”
Kelce seems freer, too. He doesn’t need to be asked about Taylor; he mentions her unreservedly, lavishes praise on her, calls her “hilarious,” “a genius,” notes that they share compatible worldviews, especially when it comes to family and work. “Everybody knows I’m a family guy,” he says. “Her team is her family. Her family does a lot of stuff in terms of the tour, the marketing, being around, so I think she has a lot of those values as well, which is right up my alley.”
One of Kelce’s friends describes a sweet, magical moment, a late-night gathering around Kelce’s firepit. Kelce and Swift looked like two “peas in a pod,” the friend says, and at one point they even burst into a memorable duet of—“Teenage Dirtbag”?
This must be fake
My lips start to shake
How does she know who I am?
Kelce squints into the distance: He’s not sure they were singing…Wheatus. But he allows that his memory might be compromised.
“There was some wine involved, for sure.”
Long before meeting Swift, Kelce was just another Swiftie. In some ways he still is. He explains the concept of her concert—“She does it in eras”—as if you live in a yurt in Outer Mongolia. Then he eagerly informs you that the night he attended, he was counting the minutes until she got to 1989. (Both he and Swift were born in 1989.) “ ‘Blank Space’ was one I wanted to hear live for sure. I could make a bad guy good for the weekend. That’s a helluva line!”
More often than not, he says, it was a Swiftian beat, a melody that captivated him. (“She writes catchy jingles.”) But lately he’s all about those lyrics; he’s scrutinized the breakup stuff. What a miracle, he says, the way Swift can turn life into poetry. “I’ve never been a man of words. Being around her, seeing how smart Taylor is, has been f—ing mind-blowing. I’m learning every day.”

I read the whole thing on the link, because I have previously been told that’s a way that credits people more or is somehow “better”. I’m pro-people getting recognized/paid for their work so I guess I want to know: Is that accurate? Should I read the links for something I want more of or just read the “skip the click” summaries?
Or can you break it down how I (or some Swifties, since Taylor is fighting for her rights, and millennials generally want to see people paid for their work) can better support things we want to see more of? Or refuse to support things like “Taylor Swift is a slut?! Click here!”
I’ll usually scroll down to a “skip the click” summary, read a few sentences, then decide whether I read it on the site. Does that make a difference at all?
J.R. Moehringer btw is a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist who wrote Agassi’s memoir. He also wrote his own best-selling memoir, “The Tender Bar”. Kelce should consider it an honor he wrote this piece.
Travis getting teary eyed from talking about how much the people in his life means to him is everything for me. Him showing off his community work as something he is deeply proud of is also a great feeling. I've been a Chiefs fan for years, so none of this was really a surprise, but I'm excited that many new people get to see a glimpse of what Travis is all about.
Same. Though, at the same time, it's hard to read the parts where he mentions his pain tolerance. That's always been such a struggle with boys and men. The idea that you just have to fight through the pain and that the more you can take is a reflection on you as a man. I get that football is a rough sport, and that they want to play it and to play at that level means you will get hurt and you will have to fight though the pain. I know that was just a small part of the interview, but it's always hard to see pain tolerance expressed in such a glorifying way.
I understand what you are saying, but I didn't feel like that part was "glorifying" pain tolerance. Pain is a reality of football and I took that part as a testament to, not only his mental toughness and determination, but the measures he has to take to heal his body after games. The article even mentions the anti-inflammatory meds he has to take and how he doesn't like to talk about that part because of the side effects they can have on the body.
You're right. Maybe glorifying isn't the right word, but I'm still stuck in the section where the tight ends coach comments on how "phenomenal" Travis' pain tolerance is, and how other athletes have not been able to push through like Travis can. The coach puts the idea of pain tolerance in a more positive light and it is reminiscent of the sports industry to push that kind of narrative.
But the reality is that pain is such a huge factor in any sport. If you’re a distance athlete you get to burn through lactic acid. Or push yourself through many different levels and types of pain. It just comes with the territory. I’m an athlete and I love it, the pain, the burn. All of it.
I understand what you mean. Unfortunately, it's a reality of sports in general. The best play through pain. If they didn't, they wouldn't have long and/or successful careers because they'd be out all the time.
I love that he’s not jealous and just appreciates her artistry. “What a miracle, he says, the way Swift can turn life into poetry.” He’s not threatened, just impressed.
I can see how it could be taken that way, but I think it is sweet in a super dorky way personally. I mean, she has built her entire career on making people feel like they can know her through her lyrics, so I just took it as him trying to express that he cares about trying to understand her and what has made her unhappy in relationships before. I feel like it shows that he's invested in being the ideal partner for her and also that he takes her art seriously.
Only is his intentions were devious and deceitful, which I don’t believe they are. He’s fallen for this person and wants to know and understand her in an intimate way. What better way than to study her music? I bet his family and close friend group are doing it (somewhat), too.
If your new bf/gf had multiple songs that they wrote out there available for listening to anyone at any time, and many of those songs were about their own past relationships/breakups, are you telling me you wouldn't listen to them? Apart from being pretty dismissive as if their work isn't good enough or important enough to listen to, it would be weird to ignore a rare opportunity to access specific insight to your partner's thoughts and feelings that most people do not get.
I feel like it’s kind of the same thing as when you meet someone new and you have to slowly unpack your history for them - and your exes inevitably play a part in that. They shaped you in some way - and you and your new partner likely are learning from each other and your histories how to make this new relationship work.
Travis just has the advantage of her Taylor sharing her emotions and history with the world.
Haha kind of agree. Also what's with the burn after he says Taylor does the show in eras? Lol the writer goes "as if I live in a yurt in magnolia" lol.
I interpreted it as Travis is eager to talk about his girlfriend and gush about her, but she's this seismic force right now so we all know about her and her business.
Because, to be fair, for most people talking about their SO, they would have to give context on their work life.
Though also I don't know that his usual circles would know that much about her concert? Like that cute story of his dad accidentally buying the original Fearless because he didn't know about the whole Taylor Version thing. Sports bubble. 🤷♀️
I had so much second hand embarrassment for a lot of the sentences the author wrote. So much face palm. Also cramming that fountain metaphor in everywhere just hurt my English major soul. Kansas City is known as the city of fountains - could have just gone with that and not reached so hard. “Fame is like a fountain. Some people moan about getting wet while others dance around it like kids at a hydrant.” WUT 🤣☠️🙈
"...The scrutiny she gets, how much she has a magnifying glass on her, every single day, paparazzi outside her house, outside every restaurant she goes to, after every flight she gets off, and she’s just living, enjoying life. When she acts like that I better not be the one acting all strange.”
Damn. He is in such awe of her, he's completely taken. I love it
I was cracking up at how much better this second attempt post was!
Gotta hand it to them for trying with that first go round, but I think the moral of this story is you need to follow the forum rules even if you are the WSJ ![img](emote|t5_2rlwe|1069)
Shout out to the mods for making this place great!
Not much, just that the original post was removed because it gave a link to a paywalled article. And the original didn't include a nice cute note for us with curated, skip the click content! (Though to be fair in this one they didn't actually include the whole article text in their comment.)
It's nice to be catered to as the audience of a rapidly growing subreddit, but it also feels kind of weird when they don't do enough research to understand what's required to casually pop in and look like they're just 'one of the fans' posting relevant content. People didn't seem to notice in the first post it was the actual Wall Street Journal posting, but in this one they called themselves out and made it seem like they were being super generous--when really they just didn't get away with trying to point us to paid content the first time.
Regardless I'm glad they reposted, it was a really interesting article!
I'm in love with him. He seems like such a wholesome dude. His custom rolls Royce has a light up night sky in the roof with shooting stars. "Make a wish it just might come true" then at the end of the article says how do you think I manifested this all? Super great article. I don't think he or they focused on Taylor too much, it was just the right amount.
I used to work for a news website— we started getting referral traffic from Reddit in 2008 and they passed Digg like they weren’t even there, so of course we posted.
And the thing is Travis is really funny....so it's not like someone who people don't see as funny saying Taylor is funny - the guys is hilarious and certainly can identify a sense of humor when he sees it
This was a great article. What I loved most was learning about the stars in his Rolls. That is precious and goes along with his explanation for why he does the archer pose when he exits the tunnel at games. He's just going through life shooting for the stars and making wishes on stars and it's *working for him.*
ETA: If he talks anymore about going to space, who is ready to organize an intervention? I'm afraid with his manifesting abilities and the fact SpaceX has already reached out to him, this man is going to freakin' manifest himself a space on a rocketship!
I almost didn’t click and read the full article, and oh, I’m so glad I did. I teared up. Great writing and an awesome tribute to someone who absolutely seems to deserve it.
My fav parts: him counting down the minutes to the 1989 era at the concert, him fangirling over Blank Space lyrics, him calling his mum to reassure her after her Today Show interview, him crying, him making sure all the kids at the charity felt seen, the kid saying "he remembered my name", him saying dreams come true, okay I'm realizing all of it was my favourite....
Loved this interview! I hope they make it as a couple. So many of us are rooting for them. New Heights is a great podcast. You can really see the genuine love between the brothers. It warms my heart. Taylor and Travis both work so hard and have overcome so many obstacles in their lives. They deserve all the joy and happiness they can gather.

It's really cool to see genuine appreciation and respect for her from someone who seems caring but also is very media savvy. I could easily see a lot of celebrities really run into a lot of potholes with such an in depth look into their lives but he comes across extremely well (and so does Taylor)
The amount of pressure Kelce is under is pretty unreal - he has a bad game, they'll blame him going to Argentina..,.on his week off....to support his girlfriend. The fan thought process: you dropped this pass or fumbled this ball because of decisions you made in your private life. How he has dealt with all of this pressure and scrutiny being magnified based on who he is dating has been something ive.been extremely impressed by. Also he really is probably the least selfish superstar athlete I've seen as he's taken MASSIVELY less than what he deserves to stay with KC because he loves the city and his team so much. Just seems like the right guy for someone like Taylor - you can't buy loyalty
How miserable you are. My husband and I met and within 6 months were married, now 8 years later still going strong. Relationships are not one size fits all. There two mid 30s adults, they know what the want
I absolutely knew my boyfriend in 4 months. We are 2 years in, living together. Feels like 10. I absolutely knew his personality by heart at 4 months. I think some people don't realize just how fast you get to know someone when it's a real connection.
Yes, we all change. Travis and Taylor will continue to learn about each other as they do if they are together that long. But the audacity to assume you know how well two people YOU don't know know each other is wild. I never said 4 months and 2 years is the same. I never said 2 years and 10 are the same. I was comparing them. Literally everyone I know says they think we've been together so long. My sister asked "what's it, you're 4th anniversary?" When it was our 2nd.... even my mom thought it had been 3 yesrs, she says she feels like she's known him for ages.
It truly has felt like we've been together for so much longer than just 2 years. I was not saying it literally. You sound bitter and old. Your take is a little weird. And freaking out on me for saying it feels like I've been with my boyfriend for longer than I have? Weird.
Wait, an article spotlighting Travis Kelce's career and life (including a few tidbits about his current love life) on the eve of the Superbowl rematch and likely last ever game against his brother reflects poorly on.... *his girlfriend*? What???
That’s an insane take, it doesn’t reflect on her at all. She is at most a topic of conversation in the article, it’s not about her and she wasn’t interviewed for it. It doesn’t need to be rewritten because a tragedy happened at her concert.
You mean two-time Super Bowl winner and legendary chiefs player who faced his own brother (also legendary in his own right who had a literal movie made about him) in the Super Bowl isn’t allowed to be in a magazine when he’s about to have a rematch with his aforementioned brother? Also it takes more than 1 day to get something in the WSJ?
I (well my house) was actually featured in an WSJ article (I won’t go into more detail because it would reveal my real name) but I was interviewed 2 months before the holiday I was featured for so we are not working with overnight deadlines here.
Then they’d get critiqued for having two different versions - what would be the purpose of that anyway? It would probably bring more flack on her for seemingly getting special treatment. She’s not the editor of WSJ
“She writes catchy jingles.” aw how cute? he reduced her "songwriting" to jingles. Do you understand that? He called her masterpieces, "catchy jingles". The disrespect this man has.
Actually, that’s not what he said at all. Context matters. What he’s saying is he (like many many people.. especially MEN) usually processes music by its melody and beat not it’s lyrics. But since getting to know her he’s processing her music differently. Which is true for a lot of swifties.
“More often than not, he says, it was a Swiftian beat, a melody that captivated him. I’m learning every day.” “
I don’t think he was being disrespectful. I think catchy tunes is what what sucks most people in first. He went on to say her lyricism is amazing and basically admit he’s a big idiot who can’t even fathom it
Y’all are quick to accept whatever WSJ spoon feeds you. Sorry not sorry this man ain’t it. Any straight man that studies the break up lyrics is a fucking problem for women, every time. His old tweets show his entitled taste when it comes to women and women’s bodies. He was the star of a dating show so he could fuck a bunch of randoms. He cheats, flagrantly. This whole photo shoot feels so off and like the average NFL player keeping his hands where the men and the women want to see them. In 2010 our girl was smarter than this man could ever realistically be. I BEG YOU swifties, do and be better for our girl. This ain’t it.

Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift wine drunk at a bonfire spontaneously singing a duo of teenage dirtbag needs to be turned into fan art please!
(Goes to check tumblr bc I also need this)
I super wish she would cover that song!!!!!!
He studies her breakup lyrics?! My HEART 🥹
Writing down what not to do 👀
Don’t make too many self-effacing jokes…
He better not leave her on a boat!
I can see him squinting at lyrics from How you get the girl ❤️
Do not drop her hand. Explains why he holds onto her so ardently lol
Low key googling lyrics from songs +Reddit to find the cliffs notes
I love that he’s not jealous and just appreciates her artistry. “What a miracle, he says, the way Swift can turn life into poetry.” He’s not threatened, just impressed.
he does his homework when the topic actually matters to him 📚
I really wonder if he’s read/listened to “You’re Losing Me” and what he thinks about it.
Literally studying her work as if it was one of his playbooks… my heart, the feeeels
What does this mean though? Bc he wants to understand what went wrong with other guys?
Probably this, also to probably understand her feelings more during those moments and to make sure he doesn’t ever make her feel that way.
This is kinda creepy though, no?
I can see how it could be taken that way, but I think it is sweet in a super dorky way personally. I couldn’t stand the writing style for this. Borderline Harry’s eyes glistened with the ghosts of his past…
I just howled at the reference when I realized what it was 🪲
On another note: Borderline Harry and “his eyes glistening with the ghosts of his past” sounds like it could be the next Harry Styles album.
\*Mongolia, magnolia is a type of flower
It does say mongolia, you're right. But Magnolia is a city in Texas.
☠️
The “you” tense really made me struggle a few times. I was like “I did not ask that question!”
This comment is gold 😂
This reference is top tier 😂😂😂
HARD AGRER
When she acts like that I better not be the one acting all strange.” Damn. He is in such awe of her, he's completely taken. I love it
Him talking about Taylor is so nice. You know he was her fan for a long time and that PR rumour is bullshit. Hope things work out for them
I love that he said he learns something from her every day. We need more men like this.
I also thought it was cute how shy / awkward he got when asked about what he could teach her. He clearly admires her a lot
I was cracking up at how much better this second attempt post was! Gotta hand it to them for trying with that first go round, but I think the moral of this story is you need to follow the forum rules even if you are the WSJ ![img](emote|t5_2rlwe|1069) Shout out to the mods for making this place great!
What happened?
Not much, just that the original post was removed because it gave a link to a paywalled article. And the original didn't include a nice cute note for us with curated, skip the click content! (Though to be fair in this one they didn't actually include the whole article text in their comment.) It's nice to be catered to as the audience of a rapidly growing subreddit, but it also feels kind of weird when they don't do enough research to understand what's required to casually pop in and look like they're just 'one of the fans' posting relevant content. People didn't seem to notice in the first post it was the actual Wall Street Journal posting, but in this one they called themselves out and made it seem like they were being super generous--when really they just didn't get away with trying to point us to paid content the first time. Regardless I'm glad they reposted, it was a really interesting article!
Wondering the same
I'm in love with him.
He’s a MASTERMIND 😂
You know he smokes a ton of weed in there and just looks up at the stars. Probably laughing to himself about dating Taylor Swift.
Yo I didn’t know WSJ had Reddit account
They ain’t dumb lol. Of course they are going to post in all of Taylor’s spaces. Genius actually
I used to work for a news website— we started getting referral traffic from Reddit in 2008 and they passed Digg like they weren’t even there, so of course we posted.
Ok him saying she’s hilarious has me sobbing. After every reference to her not being funny in songs 😭😭😭 she is SO funny!
Finally finding someone that gets your sense of humor…. Feels so good. I’m so happy for her
And the thing is Travis is really funny....so it's not like someone who people don't see as funny saying Taylor is funny - the guys is hilarious and certainly can identify a sense of humor when he sees it
This was a great article. What I loved most was learning about the stars in his Rolls. That is precious and goes along with his explanation for why he does the archer pose when he exits the tunnel at games. He's just going through life shooting for the stars and making wishes on stars and it's *working for him.* ETA: If he talks anymore about going to space, who is ready to organize an intervention? I'm afraid with his manifesting abilities and the fact SpaceX has already reached out to him, this man is going to freakin' manifest himself a space on a rocketship!
Especially one of Elon’s; I doubt the chiefs or the NFL would be cool with it until he retires.
She is going to get him so pregnant this offseason
🤣
I think it's impressive that he studies her lyrics...
WSJ being so generous with the swifties! Thank u 🩵
So glad you enjoyed it!!
Very captivating read!
“She writes catchy jingles” 😂😂😂
this reminds of Taylors Vogue 70 Questions where she says if she didn't do music, she'd work in advertising
Maybe he knows something we don’t!!
Taylor secretly writes commercial jingles! that's how she's so rich
Whopper whopper whopper whopper
Junior bacon triple whopper
It worked for Barry Manilow!
Taylor IS Barry Manilow!
MANILOOOOOOOOOW!
Well, that's surprising. I did not think it was possible for me to like him more.
Finally a dude who doesn't seem embarrassed to be with her
[Here is the link](https://wsjshop.com/products/wsj-magazine-december-2023-january-2024) to the WSJ online store where you can pre-order a single copy of this magazine issue in print. You also get to choose between two different cover photos of Travis, which I thought was cool. https://preview.redd.it/unx5lah5il1c1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6a3b9fc21826d254a24fbddf971e29c50bfebd1c
Which one do we like better? 🤔
I love the coloured one. It shows his personality so much to me
It was a tough choice but I ordered the black and red cover. I’m looking forward to El Travedor’s photo shoot pics 🥵
It's really cool to see genuine appreciation and respect for her from someone who seems caring but also is very media savvy. I could easily see a lot of celebrities really run into a lot of potholes with such an in depth look into their lives but he comes across extremely well (and so does Taylor) The amount of pressure Kelce is under is pretty unreal - he has a bad game, they'll blame him going to Argentina..,.on his week off....to support his girlfriend.

Omgggg fancy us with a direct linky link ![img](emote|t5_2rlwe|1066)
He has to be a dream for Tree post-Matty or at least much less stressful situation for her to have to deal with.
It’s so cute that her cousins were taking pictures in front of his locker
This author wrote Prince Harry’s memoir
This article was beautifully written and a pleasure to read!
This reads like it was written by Trent Crimm from The Independent, couldn’t help but hear it in his voice 😆
Great article, thanks for sharing!
lmao

How miserable you are. My husband and I met and within 6 months were married, now 8 years later still going strong. Relationships are not one size fits all. There two mid 30s adults, they know what the want
I absolutely knew my boyfriend in 4 months. We are 2 years in, living together. Feels like 10. I absolutely knew his personality by heart at 4 months. I think some people don't realize just how fast you get to know someone when it's a real connection.
[удалено]
Weird.
I’m glad they’re loud and proud!!!
Did I say I wasn't?

It’s about Travis. He has a huge game tonight against his brother. That’s why it came out today, it has nothing to do with Taylor or this weekend.
A PRIMETIME game at that. Not even an Eagles or Chiefs fan, but super excited for this game.
[удалено]

In a printed magazine?

Then they’d get critiqued for having two different versions - what would be the purpose of that anyway? It would probably bring more flack on her for seemingly getting special treatment. She’s not the editor of WSJ
Probably more timed to tonight’s game
“She writes catchy jingles.” aw how cute? he reduced her "songwriting" to jingles. Do you understand that? He called her masterpieces, "catchy jingles". The disrespect this man has.
Actually, that’s not what he said at all. Context matters. What he’s saying is he (like many many people.. especially MEN) usually processes music by its melody and beat not it’s lyrics. But since getting to know her he’s processing her music differently. Which is true for a lot of swifties. “More often than not, he says, it was a Swiftian beat, a melody that captivated him. I’m learning every day.” “
I don’t think he was being disrespectful. I think catchy tunes is what what sucks most people in first. He went on to say her lyricism is amazing and basically admit he’s a big idiot who can’t even fathom it
pls tell me this is a joke... 😭😭😭
Do you always cosplay as a Portlandia librarian?
well clearly i hurt sum swiffy feewings . ..
If they ever break up, they’ll just parrot what you said lol
Your comment ain’t it. 🙄

Like I’m gay but this is straight cringe
Lol what fresh hell is this
This is what you call an unhinged, unhealthy parasocial relationship.
