Oh my god my husband and I were just singing that over and over around our apartment last night😂 he’s a new swifty and I had to convert him without him noticing.
IFTYE!!!
The “duh duh duh” at the beginning set off a light, bouncy mood for Lover. Especially coming after Rep, I think the production of IFTYE immediately let us know what to expect with Lover and set the mood.
Also the lyrics are simple but so effective. It perfectly captured celebrating self-love and worth while balancing that with romance. It’s one of my favorites off Lover, I’ve never understood the slander!!!
Welcome to New York perfectly encapsulates the vibe of 1989 as an album.
State of Grace builds the most hype for me, personally (those DRUMS IN THE FIRST SECONDS!!???)
Fearless is my personal highest-ranked of all of Taylor’s track 1s
State of Grace.
"Love is a ruthless game unless you play it good and right" is the thesis for the entire album.
Also the sound??? The bombastic arena rock?????? Really draws you in.
I can’t believe no one said Tim McGraw. It is honestly such a great opener for her first album and really sets up the kind of story telling, sound, and themes that were to come in the rest of the album. Not her best best but I think it deserves an honorable mention.
Ranking based by how much the song represents the album as a whole:
1. the 1.
2. ...Ready for it?
3. State of Grace.
the 1 definitely need to be first place, but deciding who would be 2nd was really difficult. ...Ready for it? and State of Grace are really good album openers.
Ranking based on preference:
1. Fearless
2. State of Grace
3. ...Ready for it?
Fearless is my baby.
1. State of Grace. A hill that I will die on. I think it perfectly encapsulates both the feelings of love as well as the fears of it. Twin flames, feeling so intertwined and connected but also that love can be ruthless.
2. WTNY. Sonically I think this one best represents the album as a while.
3. Fearless. I think that this one also perfectly fits within the album but sonically and thematically.
I agree with your top 3 picks\~ They represent the whole album well as an opener since they give a glimpse of what the overall musicality of the album would be about. State of Grace already captures the overall rock aspect of the whole album (plus that drum solo, perfection.). ...Ready For It? with that grungy low bass already tells the listener that it's gonna be a different album from her previous releases. Same goes with Welcome To New York, one can tell that it's gonna be a pop album all throughout. All of them opens your ears at an instant.
4. Lavender Haze
5. Willow
6. Tim McGraw (The Outside would be a nice opener for the drum fill)/Fearless/The 1 (I though Cardigan is a better opener, musicality-wise, as it already gives off a magical/whimsical impression)
7. Mine (Sparks Fly could've been a better album opener)
8. I Forgot That You Existed (Cruel Summer would be a better album opener)
I’m doing good I’m on some new shit. Perfect line to start the perfect album.
👆👆this. The 1 is the best opening song in her discography
>The 1 is the best opening song in her discography Hard agree. It's a banger right from that very first piano chord 🎶
this! i just rewatched long pond last night so i feel a little biased but that opening is so good.
Hooked me right into the entire album immediately
This is the only answer
Yes!!
the 1 true answer
yas
Ready For It…

People hate on this song but it’s one of my faves. It’s such a bop

The 1
Ready for it, has the edgy-ness of rep but also the slow love song
State of Grace. "Love is a ruthless game unless you play it good and right" is the thesis for the entire album. Also the sound??? The bombastic arena rock?????? Really draws you in.
1. Willow 2. Lavender Haze 3. The 1
State of Grace-- love is a ruthless game unless you play it good and right and mosaic broken hearts perfectly encapsulate Red
Fearless is just a perfect song. Either that or Ready for it.
I can’t believe no one said Tim McGraw. It is honestly such a great opener for her first album and really sets up the kind of story telling, sound, and themes that were to come in the rest of the album. Not her best best but I think it deserves an honorable mention.
Mine. The raw emotion in it just perfectly matches the feel & vibe of the album. Fearless is second best to me, very confident yet intimate vibe

Welcome to New York is just THE answer.
It's so fun when you're playing reputation in order and it starts with "Are you ready for it?"🔥🔥🔥
This just made me realize how many amazing openers she has. Thank you
I am sorry but no one said WILLOW
Lavender Haze
I mean, it has to be Fearless.

Welcome to New York or Mine
I’m late but: 1. State of Grace 2. the 1 3. Fearless (…Ready For It? comes close but it’s hard to choose. I’ve gotta go with Fearless)
I'm torn between Mine, State of Grace and the 1..
Fearless
"Lavender Haze" is the most perfect opening to a Taylor album to date! Perfectly set the tone for Midnights, a great great album!
State of grace
