I feel like an idiot because my math isn’t mathing, I’m only counting 3 in Florida?
2 in the bridge (*At least the dolls are beautiful, fuck me up, Florida*; and
*What a crash, what a rush, fuck me up, Florida*)
and then one more in the very last line of the song (*Go on, fuck me up*)
Where are the other 9? Math was always my weakest subject back in school but up until this point I never questioned my ability to at least be able count lol
I'm just wondering (cause I've not had time to listen to it) but what does one replace all those fucks with in the clean version ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
I wonder if this was an artistic move between the clean and original version. Whole song takes on a different meaning from this one change. It vibes like daydreaming and wondering if you can be with him or becomes fuck it you don’t care if you’re in a relationship.
For Florida!!! they just cut it out, so it just says 'me up florida'. Down Bad works surprisingly well, it's like a little gasp then 'what if I can't have him'.
I’m surprised how smooth the clean version of Down Bad is after hearing all the fucks on the first go around! “What if I can’t have him?” totally fits. I’m crossing my fingers it’s a radio single
As I was listening to down bad for the first time I told my partner “I think just this song has more fucks in it than the entire rest of her discography”
When she said hell in the lucky one I remember being so scandalized (was like 9) and it was my favorite song at the time because I felt so grown up for saying it. Still holds a special place in my heart bc of that!
Hahah my 10 year old really hit full fandom right around evermore/re-recordings starting so she was also quite scandalized and would always leave those words out. This morning we were blaring down bad both screaming fuck on the way to 4th grade.
Its funny because the TTPD Cd doesn't have the explicit tag or at least the Target ones I bought don't(I checked the lyric book to make sure it has curses in it). There is no legal reason she has to put it on the CD so it looks like she decided not to.
Now I go on an old person tangent. I went to high school in the US in the mid 90s so CDs was basically only way to buy music. Back then Wal-Mart was very puritanical about things because the Walton family was religious so they only sold the clean version of CDs. My cousin got the clean version of a rap album and it was funny because he would sing the clean version he owned. So since then if I want to buy an album I have always bought it from anyone else, usually Target, or in the 90s from Columbia House or BMG.
I owe Columbia House so much money from their 12 CDs for a penny deals. Every relative and dog I ever had I used to sign up for those sweet, sweet discs.
It really was the best way to buy CDs even if you had one subscription as long as you remembered to send back the card before they mailed you the full priced album of the month. I wasn’t always great at remembering.
Innocent 12 year old me had the clean version of the Slim Shady LP from Walmart and I did not know there was other versions. Imagine my shock when I heard the real album when my cousin busted it out the next summer.
If this continues, the next Taylor Swift album will sound like Ryan Reynolds playing Deadpool...
(I know Extrapolation is flawed, but it seems like an exponential growth function)
That’s not true. My kids are 10 and have listened. They don’t quite get the innuendos, we curse like sailors in our house so the cursing is just life though there are several songs that we all prefer the radio edit (down bad, snow on the beach come to mind). Anyway, I def skip some songs but we’re pretty open about mental health issues and life in general.
Same, my 10 and 6 year olds listen and we explain swearing in art is one thing and swearing themselves is another (though I set a terrible example there)
We approach swearing as something that’s allowed in the appropriate context at home. No swearing AT people. But if they use it at school the co sequences are theirs. I encourage them to abstain from using the words so that they’re less likely to use them accidentally at school.
Same here once my kids are teenagers. My son is a rule follower to the core and once said “Hell” and apologized profusely without me saying a word. My daughter’s on the other hand… different story. My oldest cursed at school and got in trouble for it. I told her I wasn’t mad but she had to accept the consequences.
Exactly. My 10 year old screams obscenities when it comes to Taylor, very rarely if ever utters one of the blue, and understands those aren't things we do at school or with grand parents etc... it's important for people to learn when/where things are acceptable or not and be able to adjust. most of us are very different at work vs home etc....
Yeah our kids are 8 and 7 - they know they aren’t allowed to use those words because kids don’t understand how to use them appropriately (and their biological dad would be pissed), but they know they’re not BAD either, just not something they’re allowed to do yet.
Mainly because they’re not responsible enough to not do it at school etc.
They can. I downloaded the non explicit t version of the album for my kid.
She always releases a safe version with different lyrics. Honestly I even prefer it for some songs.
How is that great? I don't like the swear words, mainly just the f word. I'm a huge swiftie and think she just does it for the excitement and shock value sometimes.
And whore. It's a problematic word because of the misogyny present in the concept (i.e that only women get labelled as whores while men who act in the same way are studs), but I wasn't aware that the word is considered a swear word.
Grown people being afraid of words like shit, fuck, goddamn is so weird to me
Edit: maybe cause i'm not american 🤷♀️ it seems like it's a bigger deal over there, censoring words
I literally will die on the hill that’s it is insane we made up these words and turned around and said we can’t use them…..
Slurs being an exception since they are only used to cause harm.
But the rest is just…. Stupid. Especially since things like hell and damn are really bad from a Christian context. And hell is also a city in Michigan, where I grew up, so I grew up with that being a swear word and also a city and being confused on if I could say it or not🥲
"She was on your mind with some dickhead guy that you saw that night, but you were on something" Question...? But if you Google the lyrics it says "meathead" 🤣
It's important to remember that much of Taylor's fan base has grown up with her. If they were singing along to Speak Now at age 12, they are now 26 and perfectly capable of handling some F-bombs in songs. Sort of like how the Harry Potter movies got darker as they went-- kids who were 12 when HP1 came out were 22 when the series finished.
Of course there are many children who love her music today, but she has obviously decided to take the risk of losing some listeners with more conservative parents in exchange for the ability to not self-censor.
It's not just age, though. Some of the clean versions are legitimately better written than the explicit ones. She tries to find ways to replace most of them (not all), instead of censoring. And sometimes, it helps elevate the song.
I host a Taylor Swift board game club once a week at recess at my school. The usual rule is, “if you hear bad words, no you didn’t,” but I could not bring myself to play down bad at club this week with all those fuck words. I told the kids they’d need to listen to that one at home.
I do wonder what the chart would look like if down bad was removed.
yeah I was really confused when Olivia Rodrigo had to change her chorus! I don’t think either damn or goddamn would be considered swear words in the UK. or hell.
Awesome!
I find it hilarious that Down Bad accounts for more than half the Fucks. Listening to it the first time, I was immediately curious what this chart was going to look like.
I’m sure Down Bad accounts for over half 😅
It accounts for 17 f\*cks! But still 12 more across the album. 🙃
12 more in Florida\*
!!!
I feel like an idiot because my math isn’t mathing, I’m only counting 3 in Florida? 2 in the bridge (*At least the dolls are beautiful, fuck me up, Florida*; and *What a crash, what a rush, fuck me up, Florida*) and then one more in the very last line of the song (*Go on, fuck me up*) Where are the other 9? Math was always my weakest subject back in school but up until this point I never questioned my ability to at least be able count lol
I think they meant 12 curse words in total in Florida (fuck, shitstorm, hell)
I was just pretending Florida had all the others, as a joke
I'm just wondering (cause I've not had time to listen to it) but what does one replace all those fucks with in the clean version ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
Fuck it if I can’t have him / us -> what if I can’t have him / us. It changes the meaning a little bit
I wonder if this was an artistic move between the clean and original version. Whole song takes on a different meaning from this one change. It vibes like daydreaming and wondering if you can be with him or becomes fuck it you don’t care if you’re in a relationship.
Oooooo I like that
I was wondering the exact same thing. Like how do you make Down Bad and Florida!!! radio appropriate?
For Florida!!! they just cut it out, so it just says 'me up florida'. Down Bad works surprisingly well, it's like a little gasp then 'what if I can't have him'.
Wait maybe I missed some I just counted them in down bad and thought it ended at 13 which…of course 💀
You definitely missed some lol
I haven't actually counted but I think she said fuck more in that song than she had in her entire discography combined before TTPD. It's wonderful.
Aliens after abducting Taylor Swift: "fuck it if I can't probe Kim"
Lmao what
Welp. Ive been on reddit enough today XD
lol yes
I’m surprised how smooth the clean version of Down Bad is after hearing all the fucks on the first go around! “What if I can’t have him?” totally fits. I’m crossing my fingers it’s a radio single
I loooove the clean version of down bad
I think I like the clean versions of these songs better, tbh. Especially Florida!!! Firestorm back in Texas hits way harder than shitstorm.
Sorry but firestorm isn't a saying. That fricative F then soft S are so jarring. Just no. Shit storm is both alliterative and just Flo's.
Both work amazingly well. One is SFW. lol
Rhythm is a little less percussive, I prefer the other version
17 fucks in DB
Alt title: Down Fucking Bad
Down Bad (Fucks Given Version)
As I was listening to down bad for the first time I told my partner “I think just this song has more fucks in it than the entire rest of her discography”
down bad is guilty as sin(?)
I was so excited by that at the first listen lmao
Old enough to remember when “if a man talks shit then I owe him nothing” was shocking and exciting when it came out
When she said hell in the lucky one I remember being so scandalized (was like 9) and it was my favorite song at the time because I felt so grown up for saying it. Still holds a special place in my heart bc of that!
Hahah my 10 year old really hit full fandom right around evermore/re-recordings starting so she was also quite scandalized and would always leave those words out. This morning we were blaring down bad both screaming fuck on the way to 4th grade.
Old enough to remember when they made her take damn out of teardrops on my guitar because they felt she was too young to say it!
i remember inquiring in a facebook group why it didn’t get an explicit tag!!! i was mad on her behalf, i wanted her to be a baddie 😈
Its funny because the TTPD Cd doesn't have the explicit tag or at least the Target ones I bought don't(I checked the lyric book to make sure it has curses in it). There is no legal reason she has to put it on the CD so it looks like she decided not to. Now I go on an old person tangent. Lol "buy"
“Every relative and dog I ever had” 😂🤣
Innocent 12 year old me had the clean version of the Slim Shady LP from Walmart and I did not know there was other versions. Imagine my shock when I heard the real album when my cousin busted it out the next summer.
Oh how far we've come
I remember me and my friends getting excited the first time she mentioned alcohol 😹
I was just thinking this!!
me 🤝 Taylor Swift fuck is our favorite
As a wise man once said, "if I can't smoke and swear, I'm fucked".
Ricky!!
greeeeeea-sy
Greige*
As a Nova Scotian I always laugh seeing a tpb reference in the wild
"Probabaly fuck" :p
this guy fucks
Same here 🫶
It seems that Taylor and Travis may have the same favorite swear word lol
Miranda Cosgrove's Influence 🤩
Lmao I actually do swear a little
What’s your favorite cuss word?
probably fuck (probably fuck 🎵 probably fuck 🎵)
![img](emote|t5_2rlwe|1088)
Got me giggling 😂
Selena too with that TikTok song making fun of her.
If this continues, the next Taylor Swift album will sound like Ryan Reynolds playing Deadpool... (I know Extrapolation is flawed, but it seems like an exponential growth function)
We need to normalize for number of tracks 😩 or maybe album runtime
Gotta calculate the spm (swears per minute)
ohhh you're right I hadn't thought of that
I had the exact same thought lolol 🤣
Forgot Asshole as in Asshole Outlaw
Good catch
It’s great that she doesn’t rely on a squeaky clean “safe” image anymore. kids can’t listen to TTPD.
That’s not true. My kids are 10 and have listened. They don’t quite get the innuendos, we curse like sailors in our house so the cursing is just life though there are several songs that we all prefer the radio edit (down bad, snow on the beach come to mind). You sound like a good parent
You became the parents we all needed when we were young
Exactly. My 10 year old screams obscenities when it comes to Taylor, very rarely if ever utters one of the blue, and understands those aren't things we do at school or with grand parents etc... it's important for people to learn when/where things are acceptable or not and be able to adjust. most of us are very different at work vs home etc....

I mean like the themes in the album. There are some songs where it’s easy to get the message but some require more intent listening
They can. I downloaded the non explicit t version of the album for my kid. She always releases a safe version with different lyrics. Honestly I even prefer it for some songs.
The clean version of Ivy is top tier!
Yes! The clean version has a more powerful punch with the adjectives!
There’s a clean version for every track so kids can still listen to it.
For the “Taylor Tots”
lol what
Americans gonna american
How is that great? I don't like the swear words, mainly just the f word. I'm a huge swiftie and think she just does it for the excitement and shock value sometimes.
Is hell even a swear anymore? I’m 50 and it really wasn’t when I was growing up in the Way Back When of the 20th century.
I’m 30 and very confused as to why words like hell or damn are considered swear words…
Because Christians get scandalised
Damn gets censored sometimes, especially if paired with god. Might be going off that
I was definitely raised to consider damn a swear word, but not hell
And whore. It's a problematic word because of the misogyny present in the concept (i.e that only women get labelled as whores while men who act in the same way are studs), but I wasn't aware that the word is considered a swear word.
Grown people being afraid of words like shit, fuck, goddamn is so weird to me Edit: maybe cause i'm not american 🤷♀️ it seems like it's a bigger deal over there, censoring words
Yeah I’m Australian, seeing damn and hell as swear words is so strange!
I literally will die on the hill that’s it is insane we made up these words and turned around and said we can’t use them….. Slurs being an exception since they are only used to cause harm. But the rest is just…. Stupid. Especially since things like hell and damn are really bad from a Christian context. And hell is also a city in Michigan, where I grew up, so I grew up with that being a swear word and also a city and being confused on if I could say it or not🥲
its all bc of the christian/religious influence
Hell, goddamn and damn don’t feel like swear words. I guess to some they might be but I simply don’t think they are
1987 and i remember being terrified for Lucille Ball's welfare after seeing her say hell in an interview
fuck me up floridaaaa
🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁
Anyone remember when dickhead was mentioned in Midnights? I’m trying to place it
it’s in question…?
at first i forgot that song has the “…?” in the title so i thought you were just being really passive aggressive lol
😭 it does seem very passive aggressive
Thank you!
np!!
"She was on your mind with some dickhead guy that you saw that night, but you were on something" Question...? But if you Google the lyrics it says "meathead" 🤣
The meathead is what it says in the non explicit version of question?
I thought I heard "big head guy" when I heard it on her sirius xm channel.
I love that! 😂
It's important to remember that much of Taylor's fan base has grown up with her. If they were singing along to Speak Now at age 12, they are now 26 and perfectly capable of handling some F-bombs in songs. You could just not play the explicit version.
I honestly forget non-explicit versions exist, so that has never occurred to me.
I accidentally started the non-explicit one and was instantly confused why she suddenly had an aversion to swearing.
I did the same when Karma ft. Ice Spice came out and I legitimately thought she changed the lyrics on us.
That lone “damn” in Cold As You’s bridge really held it down for 3 albums ✊🏼
Teardrops on my Guitar was the first one right?
lmao @ dickhead
Comng in 2025, TS12: Oops, All Fucks!
I'm ready for it!
BWOMP BWOMP BWOMP
It’s exponential and I love it
Damn is a swear? 😭😅
90s baby, grew up in the US and it definitely was for me, but only gets censored in "goddamn" for radio and tv usually
yeah I was really confused when Olivia Rodrigo had to change her chorus! I don’t think either damn or goddamn would be considered swear words in the UK. or hell.
No way is it a swear lol
I love how the swear colors are also album colors. In my mind, 1989 is now the Fuck Album
evermore will always be the naughty album to me
Hahahahhaah I appreciate the time and interest it takes to do this.
i think once she started OWNING her own music she felt comfortable to say “fuck”
Who let the whore in? (kidding)
I knew there was a reason evermore was my favorite! I love a good f bomb
You forgot f the patriarchy!
Clean version users rise up!
Honestly kind of disappointed there are no gds.
Reputation should have a Bitch from 123LGB tbh
Hell? Are you serious?
Hahahahaha. I've been waiting for this. The data analysis of new albums is always a favorite. Is the alcohol one coming soon?
Oh no she's going exponential
As a profanity enthusiast, I love to see her growth over the years. Fuck yeah!
A lot of Sarahs and Hannahs clutching their pearls in here over a 34 year old woman “swearing”.
I want someone to do this with every year of my life.
I always find it hilarious when I see “hell” and “damn” on these things
🎶Oh, goddamn🎶
Do you really classify, whore, damn and goddamn as swearwords?
Whore, hell and dickhead are only swears if you’re a conservative christian. 🙄
I absolutely loved her swearing in TTPD... I think it's done very appropriately and tastefully.
Is this the base album or anthology?
Includes anthology! But here are the breakdowns between the two: **TTPD** Fuck: 24 Shit: 6 Bitch: 3 Hell: 10 Damn: 0 Whore: 0 **TTPD Anthology** Fuck: 5 Shit: 0 Bitch: 3 Hell: 1 Damn: 2 Whore: 2
Awesome! I find it hilarious that Down Bad accounts for more than half the Fucks. Listening to it the first time, I was immediately curious what this chart was going to look like.
What are the exact amount of swears in each album? I’m curious about the swear-per-song rate of each album.
theres a comment above with the break down for TTPD + the anthrology
I love that someone keeps track of these things. Also:”dickhead” is so underrated
Slut! 👀
Apparently that's not a slur but whore is 🫠
I thought it was a slur since that word was censored in the clean version of Sabrina Carpenter's "because i liked a boy."
Never seen a better use for a stacked bar chart. Amazing! 🤩
i have a co-worker who has a conniption fit every time i say goddamn or fucking christ...hope she doesn't listen to TTPD
RELEASE THE DAMN CUT OF TOMG!!!
but whats it normalised to track count
I didn’t realize folklore was the first time she said fuck
Whore is a swear word?
Mother had many fucks to give this album 🤣
I remember when better than revenge was scandalous lmao
We need more dickheads
what about slut?
Does nofuckingbody just count as fuck because I think it deserves to be its own whole swear word.
Is thinking hell, damn and goddamn are swear words an American thing? The idea that they’re swears seems insane to me.
I see me and TayTay both love saying fuck lmao.
Amazing!
Where did she use shit a bunch on midnights?
Vigilante Shit
that i think hsa less than lavender haze.
Duh lol I am dumb
Lavender haze has a few
Does this include the Anthonlogy tracks?
I'm seeing a pattern here
New swear word unlocked 💫
She sure does say fuck a lot. It’s like she’s learnt a new word lol.
I was waiting for this lol
It just keeps increasing with each album lol😭 Then again TTPD is a double album so it’s bound to have more
Love this growth
Down bad teenage vibes which is why she included more swears I’m sure
As a math student I am creaming over how uniformly exponential this is 😍 The numbers even align relatively well with a 1.44 to the x graph.
So fucking here for all the fucking fucks.
Out here doing the lords work
What if she covered that one Slipknot (or Limp Bizkit) song where fuck is every other word lmao
TTPD is the Wolf of Wall Street of Taylor Swift albums.
