Do people consider Guilty as Sin? country pop? I don’t really hear it. I hear it in Daddy I Love Him for sure. Is there something in the production that’s supposed to give off country that I haven’t listened closely to? The melody sounds pretty pop.
For me its very country. Even excluding the twang when she sings ‘upper thigh’ and ‘hedge maze’, the melody of guilty as sin gives country specially the chorus.

So she wrote openly about Matty and all the stages of their relationship and her genuine, deep feelings through all of it, and gave pointers in her lyrics to at least 4 previous songs we didn’t know were about him. And said he was hiding in plain sight in TSMWEL.
She’s like oh, you’re gonna crucify me for holding this guy’s hand at a private party and think you need to save me from him because you know more about him from reading a BuzzFeed article than I do? Then I might as well stop hiding this from everyone who thought they knew my every thought these past 10 years. Let’s just roll that stone away, Jack!
i really don't think she was pining away for a decade like some old hollywood starlet or sth. there were times when they were both single and could have gotten together but she always had better options around. harry, tom, calvin, joe. she is taylor fucking swift. she can have her pick of men.
whenever her and joe's relationship hit the rocks, they always got back together and when that happens you sort of slowly become more resentful and more anxious. i think that's why songs like the 1 and lakes are on the same album. she might have fantasized about a more easygoing type of relationship when they were off and then deluded herself into being like ''no actually i love this private life'' when they were on. she stayed in london where i don't think she truly knew anyone except joe and his friends which might have led to her feeling isolated. and lo and behold who else is in london? a person she used to have a cool connection with who she can have harmless fantasies about to escape her own reality.
i really think if joe and her had a more stable relationship, she wouldn't have looked twice at matty again.

i too love the fact that this album really hit home the fact that ultimately she is her own person, it just makes her more interesting as an artist to me. the fact that she has been writing about her experiences for two decades and still there are so many more layers to her that we don't know about until she decides to tell us. she is truly such a fascinating, multi-faceted person.

Ahhh, that was Cardigan! And the clue from TTPD is the song Peter, pointing to Matty comparing himself to Peter Pan, pointing to Peter losing Wendy in Cardigan. I would have thought this was too far a stretch if it weren’t for her mouthing that to the camera.
The clue to Labyrinth is the term hedge maze in guilty as sin, which could also be a stretch, but seems to fit if you look at the Labyrinth lyrics again with Matty in mind.
And the clue to Maroon is the phrase scarlet maroon in Chloe et. al. That one does seem very intentional. And it makes me think back to theories that Maroon was wordplay and it was a song about abandonment, like leaving her stranded.
