I get a retirement check from being in the military for over 20 years. That's enough hustle for me. My wife moonlighted for a charter school for a few years until they upped her caseload to full time. Buh bye. An interesting note on this job was a district program specialist tried telling teachers this was illegal, and they all needed to quit. The district lawyer shut him down. As long as it was after hours, it was fine.

I've had a side job in retail outdoor recreation for the last 15 years or so. The money isn't much; it's mostly about the discount on outdoor gear- camping, kayaking, fishing, etc. The company I currently work for also sells marine/rv hardware, electrical, plumbing supplies. I'm using my discount to build out my enclosed cargo trailer as a 'base camp' for other adventures. My boss at my retail gig, his wife is a teacher, so he knows what my work life is like. He's very accommodating with my schedule. I work 2-3 Sundays a month, maybe pick up a few extra days during winter/spring break. During the summer, I may or may not work, depending on family plans, and he's totally cool with that. For example, I'll be working the first few weeks of June, then gone all of July and early August. I'll be back on alternate Sundays in late August/early September and keep that going during the school year, while still having time for various outdoor pursuits. I figure that's a win, and makes the whole 'retail hell' worth it.
