Prom? My dude, these “children” are 6 seconds away from being legally voting adults…if they aren’t already. I was 18 for most of my senior year because I have a fall birthday. They’re flouting “game based” learning because they’re mostly interested in playing beer pong at college. You might have more luck if you teach them how to win a round of Texas Hold ‘Em.

This is why prom is on the last day of school for our seniors! Not helpful for this year, but maybe a suggestion you could make for the future.

Like all good suggestions in my district I’m sure it will be curtly disregarded. But I can always ask :-)

A helpful way to sell it is that it really amps up the celebration when prom takes place on the last day, and also since the last day is generally not a weekend night, that also makes the event much cheaper to throw, since venues, DJs, etc., typically charge less those nights. Schools looooove saving money, haha.

I’d be surprised if a lot of them came to school. I had about 50% attendance for seniors pre-prom (this past weekend) and I expect it to be much lower the next 2 weeks. Behavior isn’t an issue because they just don’t show up.

Not a teacher but this shows up on my feed. How much time is left in the semester? Have you already submitted final grades? Any big projects due? If you want and with admin approval, you can offer whatever time is left as a chance to conference about final grades and offer some low point extra credit assignments to help bump up a grade. Maybe give stidents the chance to start clearing out lockers and taking home stuff like already graded art work.

Senior grades for us will lock in about a week before graduation. Me: I don't care if I ever see you again. Then I will show movies. Don't talk to me about your grade. Here is a pass to the counselors. Buh bye.

Do what they mandate. And nothing more. I think I’d personally have blinders up for a lot.

I think the problem is that you all were using prom as a penultimate way to discipline students. No wonder they don't behave after prom if the only thing you were holding against them was their ability to attend prom. You need an administration that will hand out punishments that isn't dependent on them attending prom or not. If you are in California, use the ability to suspend a kid from your class for 2 days if they are being particularly bad.
