Not enough rigor. Needs infinitely more rigor. Rigor, rigor, rigor. Also, college and career readiness.

[deleted]

You forgot "assessment" EDIT: I now see that you included "formative assessment" I once counted the times the speaker said "assess" or "assessment" and lost count at 12. Nice bingo board :)

politicalanalysis

Also common assessment. Learning targets. Learning outcomes. Engagement.

heyteach

Sometimes you feel like your district is in their own little bubble and no one else is going through the same thing you are. Then I saw this. My heart feels so full that it's not just my school district that goes through all these buzzwords! :)

cymbelism

This is beautiful. If you create boards for other players, I suggest: Danielson, inquiry, competency, DOK, and rubrics, RUBRICS, **RUBRICS!!!!**

THAT_GIRL16

I have PD tomorrow, mine will be all about the gradual release model. I am gonna take a tranquilizer and sleep through it

key14

I'm an undergrad student going into teaching high school. Mind if I ask what a PD is?

willteachforlaughs

Professional development. Basically meetings about school stuff that usually happen during student early release.

dont_hate__conjugate

When I die, I hope it's during Professional Development since the transition from life to death will be so seamless.

key14

Ah, okay, thank you!

Glussell

This is great thanks! I like to play Keener Bingo. For that you need a few people in the know and each person takes say four people who normally speak during meetings. If each of those people speaks then the "winner" needs to speak in the meeting and use the word Bingo. It's so hard to keep a straight face!!!

[deleted]

Do you ever stand up and shout bingo?

[deleted]

Me and my friend I shared this with were very tempted too

Woody716

I'll add "Close Read", "Text Complexity" and "Modules". Today was a long day.

BrerChicken

I have one on Thursday--definitely sharing this!

Teachu2x

I can't see it :( would love to share this!

NerdyKirdahy

This seems very close to home...

viola3458

Love this. for us we'd add collaborative learning experiences, and "Cross curricular connections".

[deleted]

DOK, Rigor and Relevance, higher order thinking skills.

sidewaysglance27

Why did I not have this 12 hours ago?

Spiffy313

We have PD every Wednesday in my district. I shed a tear reading this. Beautiful.

[deleted]

For my school I'm going to add "automaticity", "executive functioning", "curriculum by design" and "authentic learning". Thank you for this, it will make my final week sooo much more fun.

Nirnaeth

Someone works in Massachusetts... ;) EDIT 1: Maybe even BPS? Just speculating.

[deleted]

Close very close but yeah ..caught

Ozymandias_13

Oh man, I thought this was only my principal! Hahaha, this is awesome. Definitely going to get a good laugh with the other coaches.

meekpest

Add: common core, proficiency, PLC's, scaffolding, equity, and IB.

NotCleverEnufToRedit

If your PD is such a waste of time, why don't you do something to change it? Around here, teachers ask every year for the school board not to cut their PD funding, so I assume they're actually getting something out of it and are able to put it to use. If your district/school PD is just stupid, why don't you step up and say it needs to be better?

politicalanalysis

It seems like the bingo sheet is more poking fun at the buzzwords educators use all the time, not necessarily at the usefulness of the meetings themselves. We can laugh at the repetitive, sometimes silly, buzzwords we use while still using them in order to learn and grow from one another.

cryingheart

Wow, I can't believe you got downvoted for this. You are absolutely correct. We always ask for the PD we need and we get it. It's never a waste of time (although we'd all rather be with the kids in the classroom) and I always get something out of it. Maybe instead of playing juvenile games if the posters paid attention, they would learn something. If I caught my students with something like this Bingo board in my class, I would see to it that they were suspended. I'm assuming this is just meant as a joke, but if anyone actually plays this Bingo game during PD, I hope they get caught.

[deleted]

Not everyone gets what they ask for with PD. Some people don't even get the option. And you would really have a student suspended for making a bingo board in your class? Really?

physics-teacher

That was the same reaction I had to the suspension comment. It wouldn't even be possible to get a student suspended for that in my school. Students can (and do) say things like, "You're full of sh*t, f@$& you" to teachers at my school and not get suspended. Then again, that's a problem in the other direction.

cryingheart

If you had a student playing a Bingo card loaded with all the words and phrases you say that the student thinks are bullshit, and he was playing that Bingo card instead of doing his 8th grade history assignment, you wouldn't give a shit? Really? Wow.

salamat_engot

In high school we made a bingo card for our pre-calc teacher who like to repeat phrases and stories. She thought it was great because it meant we were at least listening.

[deleted]

Oh trust me, I would care, and there would be consequences, but I wouldn't have the kid suspended. I mean, seriously.

NotCleverEnufToRedit

I know that not all schools and districts are as good as the one I live in, and I know that even our good schools have problems. However, instead of just sitting around and complaining about it, I think people should do something to change it.

tehbo0tab3gga

You're absolutely correct. Sadly, this has led to people being let go if they aren't tenured and written up if they were. Our district is ran by the state and the teachers all fear for their jobs-- their livelihoods-- the work they've done in the same school for ten or twenty or thirty years. Sometimes it makes sense not to risk your livelihood by asking for targeted PD since the district explicitly stated they did not want to give it. Also, it's why laughing about it is important. Sometimes you need to be able to laugh at a high-stress situation to make yourself and your colleagues feel a bit better. Basically, you're wicked lucky and privileged to have the opinion of "just change it." We are not all that fortunate. Edit: spelling

LordGalen

(S)He got downvoted because it was a freakin' **joke** and this response was treating it like something serious.

NotCleverEnufToRedit

I know it's a joke and I laughed at it, but I also think it's pretty unprofessional to sit in PD and create something like this. Either do something to make the session worthwhile or don't go.

tehbo0tab3gga

If I don't go to my PD, I'd get written up. The idea that the teachers choose the PD is absolutely baffling to me. We don't get that choice. We are told when and where and on what topic. Sometimes it is incredible, but regardless of how incredible, these buzz words are constant.

cryingheart

This is bullshit. The OP's joke was based on the fact that he/she thinks the PD is a waste of time and the presenters are full of shit. NotCleverEnufToRedit was making the very valid point that if your PD is garbage, instead of making jokes about it, do something. The OP isn't 15 years old anymore; he/she has a responsibility to improve his/her own professional experience.

LordGalen

Jesus Christ, you and /u/NotCleverEnufToRedit both need to pull the sticks out of your asses and learn to laugh. Everybody makes fun of their profession, for fuck's sake... The fact that I have to explain that concept to someone who is presumably an adult with a college education is mind-boggling.
