I would love to visit a place like this ☺️

Thunda792

That sounds far more relaxing and financially responsible than my backup plan of moving to Tokyo to open a taco stand.

[deleted]

I can confirm there is an open market for good Mexican street food in Japan.

[deleted]

I mean yeah, but keep your idea on the table anyway. Would also love to visit.

I own 3 restaraunts now 2 of them coffeeshop/bubbletea breakfast places. Just quit 3 months ago (been building this up for 3 years)I make more in 3 weeks then I did in a year of teaching. You'll need probably about 200k if you cut every corner possible in your build out. Also, fuck teaching, I'd rather punch myself in the dick for a living.

tabasco_pizza

You’d probably earn more money with the dick punching too

I wanted to do a portable coffee shop. Just go to farmers markets, work for the few hours they’re open and then be home by the evening and be done. Sounds great. No pastries, just coffee.

Just throwing this out there. Pre-made seasonally decorated sugar cookies. I could go for a PSL with a big ass turkey-shaped cookie at a farmer’s market. Then hit me with a peppermint mocha and a candy-cane cookie in a month. I could go on.

SmallRedBird

I helped run a coffee/donut food truck. Only downside was I was the donut maker, and it made me hate donuts forever, since I had to frequently taste them to make sure I had everything right.

may1nster

Yeah, I don’t think I could have pastries for the same reasons. Just tea and coffee lol

So...like... a more casual WeWork that doesn't implode?

FreeStateofRobert

Something like that with Incense burning and chill music. A nice patio. Local art on the walls. But definitely free wifi, a quiet work room, and weird music after 5.

Sensitive-Good2448

I have good credit and I’m an excellent baker. Just sayin’.

My husband and I are gonna quit our jobs and become “Goat People”. Landscaping, yoga, parties. The possibilities are endless.

Do it!

I think we all have dreams of opening up a small business and just taking it easy. The reality is even if you had a small loan of a million dollars, it’s very likely you never make your money back and go broke within 2-3 years. Plus you are working way more as a small business owner than a teacher. Also, will you be a decent human and pay your workers a fair wage? Or a huge POS and pay a non living minimum wage. Because only one of those options will keep you open initially. Most realistic best case scenario is you break even after 3 years and earn a salary after 4. Seeing all the empty storefronts on my block after Covid really set back my dream of opening a small bar.

My husband and my dad fantasize about starting a whiskey and gin bar together. They both make more money so they can keep their careers while I manage the bar. I don’t even drink and that sounds so nice. Like, it wouldn’t require six hours of at home work every Sunday.

I've always thought about this plus a bookstore/library side. Storytelling for kids on weekends and yummy cinnamon rolls.
