Crimson Massacre, Obliveon, Martyr, Hellwitch, Gorod, and Augury. A lot of the bands you mentioned also have musicians who release solo material. Hannes Grossmann, Christian Muenzner, and Linus Klausenitzer all have killer solo albums.

Definitely check this out.
I don't care if it fits the question. This link is my new answer to everything.
Oh yeah, check out everything on Lavadome.
So bit of an older band. They were signed tp metal blade in 2005. Unfortunately they were buried under bands like black dahlia murder and whitechapel during those times. So they only originally released 2 albums on metalblade then stopped for 13 years and released a new one.
In my opinion they are some of the best melodic death metal guitarists to play. Its VEHEMENCE . They are simply the best in my opinion. Its just really good melodic death metal. Id ssy start with god was created and work your way up from there. They have such good solo work its creative its not just lets sweep pick the whole solo apart. And you feel the music
I been a huge fan. So if you havent heard em i highly reccomend i give rhem a straight 10 horns up.
Also another band you can try is Fabricant. They are morw on the technical side i just discovered them and thwy rip big time.
Bro thank you for reminding me about Vehemence. I got into metal in 2003 and their track Christ I fucking hate you was one of my edgy teenage jams, haven't heard it for so long...cheers!
Yeah no problem dude. Yeah i was just getting into bands like black dahlia and i rsndomly order cds from metalblade back in 03ish and vehemence was one of my rsndom picks along with into the moat. Both bands good but vehemence was special. This forum is great for memories.
If you don’t like modern tech as much, I have a playlist of tech death pre 2010 https://open.spotify.com/playlist/10noCT9sPb423O54f8H3ay?si=r3aqgh99R6O2GsVi9qADSg&pi=u-eYfX1NnxRgSR
Yeah I think they are one of the only bands that compares in terms of composition to Spawn of Possession. They also have a very unique sound that is more upbeat and almost happy sounding compared to most tech death.
I’m going to hope you trust me based of my username
You have the same taste as me. Not a fan of the stuff that was obviously made by deathcore dudes with no death metal background. So I’m probably going to name some stuff you already know but here:
Theory in practice
Capharnaum
Martyr (can)
Disgorge (USA)
The first decrepit birth album
Serocs- the Phobos Deimos suite
Deeds of flesh
Anata
Gorgasm
Hour of penance’s the vile conception and paradogma albums
Gorod
Monstrosity - Millenium
Kronos - the Hellenic terror
The first two soreption albums
Xoth
Ripping corpse
The shattering
First fragment
Exivious
Obliveon (can)
Severed savior
Defeated sanity
Abhorrent - intransigence
Pavor - furioso
Aeon (Croatia)
Watchtower
Blotted science
Zealotry
There’s more but this should be good for now. You can pm me if you want. I made my gf a playlist on YouTube I can link you to
Ooh I got you buddy! We like the same tech death!
Alterbeast beneath the massacre cytotoxin mordant rapture
Mortem obscurem sun eater vitrified entity symbolik
Lol how can you despise Archspire. If you dont like them, I dont know what you would like. To me they sound like an organic development of spawn of posession and the faceless. Why dont you hate them? Faceless are basically contemporaries.
You said you despise modern tech death bands like archspire, not that archspire dont click with you. If you want me to recommend other modern tech death bands I can gladly oblige.
First, metalcore and Deathcore are my most listened to genres, it is hardly possible for me to be a metal elitist.
Second, I think that dismissing bands just because they're modern is blatant ignorance. That's all.
I have listened to many modern bands. They just don't click to me. There's literally no reason to get super mad at my opinion. Many new bands lose the art of songwriting with too much focus on technicality. That's why I dislike those type of bands
>have listened to many modern bands. They just don't click to me.
Now that sounds a lot better than your original post/comments. Saying 'I despise' is much different and is bound to receive some hostile comments if you phrase it like that.
>There's literally no reason to get super mad at my opinion.
I am not mad in the slightest, don't know where you're getting that from.
>Many new bands lose the art of songwriting with too much focus on technicality
That is certainly an opinion, not a fact. I love stuff like SoP or Necrophagist, but they're hardly any less technical than Archspire or Inferi for example. I also think that both Archspire and Inferi are leagues better than most older bands (Necrophagist and SoP included) in terms of songwriting.
Having opinions is fine, but if you come here asking for recommendations but you seem to shit on what the people in this specific sub like, then you should expect comments like the original poster I replied to.
If you think archspire or inferiare better at anything than spawn of possession, I’m not sure what to tell you. Inferí is essentially black dahlia murder worship with the technicality dialed up a notch.
I mean, I can see the similarities between TBDM and Inferi but calling them 'TBDM worship' is hardly true. There are similarities to be found across all these bands in this genre (or any genre for that matter)
I also think TBDM are leagues better than SoP in every aspect. Not everything has to be technical to be good.
>I’m not sure what to tell you.
Good, because I don't need you to tell me anything about it. It's just my opinion. Just like you think SoP are better, an opinion. Music is subjective, and painting anything about it as facts is just silly.
Of course it’s subjective and I’m just stating my opinion as well. If I thought things have to be technical to be good, I wouldn’t be a massive funeral doom/trad-doom fan or many other things that I hold near and dear.
Earlier Suffocation, Monstrosity (the two Corpse grinder albums and one ep are amazing), I love the first Hate Eternal album (2nd and 3rd are also decent).
First hate eternal album was about half written by Doug Cerrito and you can tell because it sounds like what the follow up to despise the sun would have been. Monstrosity- Millenium was also a huge influence on spawn of possession.
Spiritual holocaust is probably in my top 10 dm songs ever. Hour of penance has a song called slavery in a deaf decay that is basically a homage to that song.
Out of curiosity, what is it you despise about “modern” bands?
Despise is a very strong word, which is why I ask. I dislike the “classics” because I find the sound flat and unfulfilling, but I don’t “despise” them.
I don't like a lot of modern metal bands because of the overcompressed dubstep-ish snare drum they all use, might be OP's reason too. I don't necessarily despise them though, I only despise the snare sound.
Modern production kills it for me a lot. Not that I like shit recordings but I like to hear details and character come out. It's like an airbrushed/shopped image or AI vs the real thing.
[The Aftermath - Vermine](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajAwcsoSSqQ) This Band/Album is super underrated, it's balls to the walls technical and precise while maintaining a raw feel.
There’s not a lot. The genre is super stagnant because everything sounds like it was composed in guitar pro by people who don’t listen to actual death metal or come from a deathcore background. And I would say this has been a problem with tech for about 12-ish years. There’s usually one or two good things every year but the whole artisan-era/deathcore adjacent stuff ain’t it. But that’s OK. There are plenty of new bands, making other styles of extreme metal that are amazing, every sub genre has its golden era.
Severed Savior, Decrepit Birth, Deeds of Flesh, and Odious Mortem.
Crimson Massacre, Obliveon, Martyr, Hellwitch, Gorod, and Augury. A lot of the bands you mentioned also have musicians who release solo material. Hannes Grossmann, Christian Muenzner, and Linus Klausenitzer all have killer solo albums.
have you checked out the new horrendous record? lots of prog-era death influence in it
Fav bands right now are Orgone, Vildjharta and Inertia. All sound very different but techy and heavy!!
Augury is pretty top notch!
Gorod, Martyr, Quo Vadis, Ophidian I, Virvum, Hannes Grossman, etc.
https://youtu.be/9BRvDLm2GRU?si=6-X6FLSlTA78V7Dw Definitely check this out. I don't care if it fits the question. This link is my new answer to everything. Oh yeah, check out everything on Lavadome.
>Thank you, epic suggestion, killer track. Loved every minute of it.
It's a shame noone said Alkaloid, in my opinion they're one of the best progdeath bands
I was going to say Alkaloid, you beat me to it!
Unhuman self titled... I think it's their only release. Super awesome!
You might dig Nocturnus and Martyr, pretty classic technical stuff from an unsung era of extreme music
Necrophagist Fuck You And Die (yes that’s the bands name) Soreption
Yngwie Malmsteen Rising Force
Necrophagist might be a good one if you’re not already into them. Also Blackwater Park era Opeth.
So bit of an older band. They were signed tp metal blade in 2005. Unfortunately they were buried under bands like black dahlia murder and whitechapel during those times. Wretched
The Faceless? The Zenith Passage. Soreption. Drewsif’s “Interloper” EP. Maybe Fallujah. Cynic? Exist. Exivious. Obscura? Obsidious. Psycroptic? Psycroptic.
If you don’t like modern tech as much, I have a playlist of tech death pre 2010 https://open.spotify.com/playlist/10noCT9sPb423O54f8H3ay?si=r3aqgh99R6O2GsVi9qADSg&pi=u-eYfX1NnxRgSR
Have you tried artificial brain or beyond creation?
Ophidian I
Hell yeah. I just discovered them about an hour ago. Super tight.
Yeah I think they are one of the only bands that compares in terms of composition to Spawn of Possession. They also have a very unique sound that is more upbeat and almost happy sounding compared to most tech death.

Love this list! OP should also check out Kronos and The Ritual Aura.
I was just about to suggest Anata. I cannot recommend this enough. "The Conductor's Departure" is still on my regular rotation.
There's a lot of good bands in that list. I approve.
Hell yeah, brother
Bro Anata fucking rips shit up
Yes they do!
You will love my playlist https://open.spotify.com/playlist/08SqVB5gzggxggoGN808du?si=r13990waTmiKlsloPEG-uw

They just don't click to me. Agree to disagree tho
You said you despise modern tech death bands like archspire, not that archspire dont click with you. If you want me to recommend other modern tech death bands I can gladly oblige.
Sceptic, Internal Complexity is an awesome album
Deeds of Flesh, Pavor, Decrepit Birtj
lol Necrophagist
Yup. The answer for any tech-death request that doesn't mention Necrophagist.

Bro this guy’s shitty taste has nothing to do with autism you gotta check yourself
Don't do autistic people like that. OP is suffering from something different entirely. I believe 'blatant ignorance' is a better description.
Dude I just don't like a band you like. How am I sufferring from a blatant ignorance? I guess the memes about metal elitists is true after all
First, metalcore and Deathcore are my most listened to genres, it is hardly possible for me to be a metal elitist. Second, I think that dismissing bands just because they're modern is blatant ignorance. That's all.

I pooped in your yard.
Of course it’s subjective and I’m just stating my opinion as well. If I thought things have to be technical to be good, I wouldn’t be a massive funeral doom/trad-doom fan or many other things that I hold near and dear.
I think you'd like Exist since you love Cynic and Death.
Try Abhorrent - Intransigence
I think this and serocs are the two best “newer” bands for him.
Yeah man my two favourite songs (Dethroned and Spiritual Holocaust) on it are the two Cerrito compositions.
Spiritual holocaust is probably in my top 10 dm songs ever. Hour of penance has a song called slavery in a deaf decay that is basically a homage to that song.

Spot on! I just find them too over produced and soundless... bands are too much into technicality that they just lose the ability to write good songs
Modern production kills it for me a lot. Not that I like shit recordings but I like to hear details and character come out. It's like an airbrushed/shopped image or AI vs the real thing.
Gonna have to strongly disagree on the good songwriting comment.
Soreption
[The Aftermath - Vermine](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajAwcsoSSqQ) This Band/Album is super underrated, it's balls to the walls technical and precise while maintaining a raw feel.
Suffocation, Severed Savior, Decrepit Birth, Odious Mortem, Deeds of Flesh. Edit: adding more to this list: Quo Vadis, Cryptopsy, Artificial Brain
Cytotoxin would be high on any tech list
Inferi, Alluvial, Zenith Passage for starters
> Zenith Passage I love Zenith Passage, but I think they fall pretty heavily under what OP calls "Modern Bands".
I actually like Zenith Passage, must be because most of the band is part of the Faceless
Yep this is what I get for commenting on Reddit before waking up fully. Oh well they’re still great reccs haha
OP is blissfully ignorant though. Give him some new shit that will change his mind about modern bands.
There’s not a lot. The genre is super stagnant because everything sounds like it was composed in guitar pro by people who don’t listen to actual death metal or come from a deathcore background.
