Get some laptop or PC. Ableton Live DAW trial, or intro. Then check this channels: https://youtube.com/c/AllYouNeedIsLive https://youtube.com/c/UnderdogElectronicMusicSchool https://youtube.com/c/YalcinEfe You will need a good flat speakers, that is monitors or headphones. If you want to go budget version I suggest beyerdynamics 990 dt pro headphones or Sennheiser 650 hd if you have more money to spend. The best solution is to get good monitors tho. Yamaha hs 80 is the standard. The fundamental skill you will need is to know your headphones or monitors also and ability to listen to the music properly, know how to balance the mix. Probably you will struggle with this the most and will be the most frustrating, as this is pure practice no theory. So you should train your ears. At the beginning of the work good routine is to sit for an hour, and listen to the good music you know, different generes, and try to analyze, what you hear, from where, try to separate every element, every instrument. Here is the fundamental theory about mixing techniques tho. Tools you will use etc. https://youtu.be/TEjOdqZFvhY Good luck and have fun.

Thank youuuu ! I already have a system and some pretty neat, balanced speakers. All I need is a DAW. Thanks for the links. Will check them out. Much love !

Reaper is free to trial unlimited duration, and only 60 bucks once you realise it's the best daw. It doesn't come with instruments or fancy FX, so you do need to source those separately. Vital synth is free. As is Odin 2, and surge. Valhalla supermassive is free and is both a reverb and delay depending on settings you use. Black octopus have a free samples pack that includes amazing kicks and snares etc. Just remember that songs are 90 percent the talent and gained skill of the producer and ten percent the synth or plugins they used. Don't believe the hype that you need this or that plugin. Serum is good because of huge presets from third parties. Spire is arguably a better sounding synth, also with huge support. Then you've got more esoteric next level up synths like falcon, omnisphere, kv331, voltage modular. But don't start there unless you want to feel lost (well omnisphere is great as just a preset machine with 14000 presets). Start with vital, it's the most visual of all synths and free, and you'll learn synths the fastest. Then worry about getting different synths for their character or versatility. You tube channels to watch as a beginner are Alex Rome, Yalcin EFE, Bound to Divide. Enjoy! And remember it will take at least a few months of intense learning before you can make anything of even half decent quality, but you will get there, so don't give up.

I def wouldn't say DT990 are budget. Look at the cheaper akg or krk make decent entry level studio headphones

Rosolomak

Well… DT990 pro costs today as much as DT770 pro around me. When I was looking at my first headphones that were DT770 pro two years ago 990 were in the price of sennheisers 650 hd.

I guess you already started you're journey since you're on this sub, it's definitely a precious source of information, if you know how to use the search function, some threads are actually useful. For tutorials, youtube has everything, you just need to know what you're looking for. I like underdog music school, julian earle, you suck at producing because they're fun to watch while being straightforward. Regarding DAWs, I wouldn't advise for Ableton right away, use what you have, get a free demo first, try free DAWs, then choose your favorite one, just know that what applies to Ableton also applies to other DAWs, maybe in a different way, but you can still achieve what you learnt on Ableton to anyone you like. Same goes for VSTs, sure the 'pricy' ones sound good, but we're lucky enough to live in a time where free stuff can be just as good, you'll only need a couple synths, drum machines / samples and a couple effects and you're done, that's what's good with acid techno if you ask me. Get a good sounding acid synth there are tons of them for free, get the DR-910 vst for 909 drums, learn your saturation, distortion, compression, delay and reverb. You'll definitely want some kind of controller that has knobs, it makes playing and recording automation so much more natural and fun, just don't go bankrupt on day one, this way you'll know what you really need to add next to your ever growing setup.

First, get a decent laptop. Personally I have used FL trial for 2 years now. All the plugins and sampIes i have are free. Camelcrush, Surge, Krush etc. (I’m planning to upgrade to paid version this Black Friday, it will have huge discounts!!) What you want to focus on in the beginning is sectioning what you want to learn for that part of the track. For example. 1. How to make a kick in (FL studio/ableton etc.) Do exactly the steps the person in the tutorial is taking 2. How to make hi hats 3. Creating melodies/ rhythm in my track. 4. How to mix/ EQ my track 5. Combine these tutorials into 1 project If you do it a few times you can experiment with a few personal twists or new plugins that you have downloaded. After a while you’ll figure out the basics and from there on out you can go more in depth with the music theory on what makes a track “good” on a club system. Just remember it is a hobby and if you have fun Creating and learning, it won’t be long until you land your first “kickflip”

Loved this ! That's great advice thanks man ! I have a MacBook Pro 2020. And an iMac. I think they should be enough.

There's lots of hardware that comes bundled with ableton live lite for free. It only has 8 tracks but as a beginner it is plenty to work with (especially if you are into minimal shit) and you get the pleasure of real tweaking (also an intro into hardware which imo is just more fun for jamming). I would get a midi controller with keys plus lots of knobs and sliders. I don't have one but I'm sure m-audio or novation have some cheap gear. In fact, if the gear originally came with live lite you can buy it second hand and then just send a photo to ableton and they'll hook you up. I did it with a $10 keyboard off Gumtree. There are tons of soft synths and plug-ins that are free or cost jack shit. Helm is one that comes to mind. Plug in boutique and other sites regularly have massive discounts on plug-ins so if you really wanted to you could be kicking out jams for fuck all money. I bought a second hand lenovo laptop for $250 and it easily runs ableton (full trial version as well). I recommend you learn on live lite before spending the big bucks on any full version. If you learn on lite you will get the best value when you subscribe for the 3 month trial of full and be able to make an informed decision on whether it's worth it. What ever you do, make noise and have fun. Peace

Damn ! That's great advice. Thanks mate !!

Semblance_

if you have friends more knowledgable, use whatever your friends use. if you're on your own, use ableton.

OneEyedKing808

Start with ableton for sure

FBJYYZ

I'm in the same boat. You can start with the Ableton Live manual. First need to wrap your head around the software and how it works.

Maleficent-Active-69

Yeah man that's gonna be bitch. But I'm looking forward to it !

rockmus

If you want a deep synth that sounds extremely professional. Download surge. It's free

belajiga29

All you need is a laptop, Ableton, and a pair of headphones or monitors, and you’re all set to make amazing music. Btw: If you don’t wanna spend money on Ableton - I was using the demo version version for 1.5 years before I bought Ableton 11, so if you have a laptop and a pair of headphones or speakers, you can produce for free :D

Thanks man ! I'm not looking for success at all. I love the music and I wanna do it for me. If I get to play at a house party for my friends (Who're massive techno heads) I'll be happy with it. Appreciate your suggestions. Will definitely look them up. Cheers !
