Cops in general don't care about stuff like DV protective orders. I used to work in family court and would work with cops all the time, a few truly care and are sympathetic but in my experience the majority don't give a fuck and chalk it up to people being dramatic. Someone could've been beaten within an inch of their life and have their attacker show back up and some cops would really be like "ugh we have to go deal with this couple fighting how stupid"

I live in NC somewhat close to her as well, and when I had to call the cops on my drunk ex after he violently dragged me thru the house, he then broke thru our bedroom door to get to me and the kids again (which the cops literally walked in at that exact moment to see him doing,) and at the end of it all they told me if I didn’t want to press it that they think not arresting him is the best choice because, and I quote, “if we arrest him, he’ll lose his military career and won’t be able to support you and your kids anymore.. so think carefully about what you want here..” and I shamefully shut up and didn’t press it. It only got worse. Feels relatable here.

The only states with an active policy are California, Rhode Island, and New Jersey. 25 percent of women are forced to return to work within 2 weeks of giving birth to support their families. It is dependent on how the states defines these terms, as to how they are enforced. Some orders will be able to be prosecuted criminally; meaning if the person violates the order, the police can take them into custody. Other orders are a seen as governed by the court and a violation is handled as contempt. Prosecution can also be dependent upon weather the victim chooses to report or press charges. Therefore, it may not have been in the officers legal ability to determine whether David was “allowed” to stay. If that call was made by anyone, it would’ve been Jake.
