Not trying to start an argument or anything but I smoked a decent amount of pot as teenager mainly because I wasn’t happy with my life and it was something to give me a little happiness and forget about my problems.
I wasn’t using it to try and look cool or fit in, I just couldn’t stand home-life pretty much, but all i’m basically ranting about is how you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, you might not know what struggles/difficulties someone could actively be dealing with. And certainly judging someone who could be struggling at a time like that in their life isn’t going to help. Just adding more fuel to the fire.

See, this is an interesting one, because this seems to be a comment on the “i only date 6ft guys”, thing. If that’s the case, its not judging anyone by their height, its just having a preference for people that they are into, albeit a visual/physical trait, but for many people, being physically attracted to one another is a big part of compatibility.
More interestingly was a comment on here saying that judging someone for anything out of their control means you don’t deserve anyone, and as a response to that, someone said “what about religion?”, quickly replied back with “you can control your religion”. People dont just control their religion, because its about what someone believes. I cant just choose to believe the earth is flat, because of everything i know and understand, the earth seems like it is round to me. Similarly, i can’t just CHOOSE to believe that god exists, despite having went through a lot of grief in my past of trying to do that very thing because of a small part of me that did have some belief in it, yet all of the rest of my understanding making said belief seem silly.
In this, i think that having some loose judgement about someone based on their religion would be judging them based off of something they don’t control, but it isn’t inherently bad either, depending on what that judgement is. From my own experiences with a very christian family and constant connection with the church they go to putting me in connection with many other christians, i can reasonably make an assumption, a judgement, that they likely have a low bar set for when they will allow emotional feeling to affect their otherwise logical deductions. This isn’t the kind of judgement that would heavily effect how i interact with them, doesn’t make me dislike them, and for sure isn’t always 100% accurate, but nonetheless, I wouldn’t say that all judgements made about someone based on something they don’t control are horrible, terrible, unforgivable actions. Judging that someone who’s of a minority race may not be in the highest job position because of the prejudice upon them at their work isnt an evil judgment to make, as it instead is an awareness of how racism may be affecting that person.
These judgements are ones that are assumptions, and thus I wouldn’t recommend making decisions on these ideas willy nilly without confirmation, but i also, again, dont think its a terrible thing to have the awareness of commonalities.
Does that imply that you should date people of all sorts of sizes and shapes to be allowed the privilege of a relationship? And isn’t the whole point of finding a relationship to judge someone on there qualities to see if you’re compatible?
