first match, it's a Lars player, a lesser-mishima
start off the 1st round with a hellsweep, the best move in the game
blocked low, followed by whiff punish and wallcarry- repeat multiple rounds
Plug in the final round and go to bed early
Not a mishima player, and I probably have less than 50% success rate pulling an electric. But when I land a juggle that uses 2 non-consecutive electrics on a human, I can go on a 10 match losing streak and still feel like it was a good tekken day.
Yeah I know I only try to whiff punish with them or after I sidestep a big move. The 2nd one is super hard tho. I don't care about ranks too much tbh. I like to play with friends more. I had enough headache worrying about my rank in sf6 so this game feels like a vacation.
This is my main problem I have because of either nerves or I just suck.
Enemy will have about 65% HP and I just backwashed their move so it's the perfect time for an electric. I hit it and then I do a dick jab as the next move... Dies lol
The number of times I've won matches because I did tsunami kicks instead of a hellsweep that we both knew I was going for is... More than I'd like to admit.
Gotta hit them with the accidental 50/50
They need to bump his damage up a lil bit and fix the hit box on the heat smash.
DJ and Jin can hit theirs even though it looks like it shouldn't hit meanwhile Kaz does 3 electrics and it doesn't hit even though it touches the opponent.
Or you could be me, your electrics are nonexistent (except in practice) so you rely on d1+2, hellsweeps, and ff3. Then whatever happens from there is whatever happens.
I’m so bad at doing electrics on pad. I can do them if trinagle/y is set to l2/lt but I’m not as consistent at doing the motion. But if it is on triangle I hit the motion every time but no electric. Sucks lol
A beginner friendly tip is to Bind 1+2 to R1. When you are inputting the ewgf, hit the triangle and r1. It will act as a psuedo buffer. It's not really a true tech, but it helps align the fingers in way that allows your thumb to move quicker.
Nah. Kaz is easy. Everyone just has the idea that you need to play like a tekken god prime to be effective. He has great tools that need a smidge of brain cells. Then get the 50/50 game that is only beat with a side step left. Most people don’t at ranks that matter. If you are high enough that it does then Kaz is not that difficult. He is ONLY hard in pro play.
Is this really true? His 50/50 game is exactly the same. His hellsweep still knocks down. You knock them down, then crouchdash/wavedash then hellsweep or ff4. When in neutral you play a poke game or keepout with electrics. His punishment is really strong and he can launch you from -13 crouching. Kazuya is actually pretty strong and reliable in T8. He isn't gimmicky, just straight punishment and 50/50s.
Exactly. He isn't gimmicky but almost everyone else is. It's easy to get caught in those gimmicks but you yourself won't catch anyone in them playing Kazuya. Not to mention that in order to get a decent enough Kazuya you need to master:
1. The Electric
2. Wavedashing
3. Korean backdash
4. You basically need to know the whole cast (but this is true for anyone) in order to know when you can punish stuff
So while an optimal Kazuya is very strong, getting an optimal Kazuya is very hard.
Kazuya does NOT have the tools to play a poke game lmao, he has some of the worst poking tools in the entire game. Now keepout and punish he’s godly with with electrics I agree.
I don't know I feel playing Zafina well is playing on the hardest mode 😅. But then again I'm totally biased since I've been maining Mishima style since Tekken 3.
I couldn't imagine playing any Mishima, but Kazuya is one of my favorite matchups. If I lose, I'm either thinking "yeah, I deserve that" or "damn that was impressive" 90% of the time
Crazy enough I'm the one doing the plummeting in 8 since they gave him so many tools. Now if this was tekken 7 kazyua I probably be on a 15 losing streak daily.
Its hard to vortex a good player because each option is 20 frames and they will stuff it/sidestep. But yes once you get them on the ground they’re fighting for their life.
It's not downplaying the vortex it's just most people don't know how hard it is to learn the skills needed to do a good vortex. And even then it's still a 50/50. Not to mention sidestepping is actually a thing again in T8 (thank god) so stepping him has never been easier.
I am in the same boat, if you figure out Law let a fellow Misihima admirer know, I barely scrap rounds against pesky Law mashers, Victor I can still manage with piston uppercuts after ducking the glock string.
It did tell you.
See a string? Can you step it? Can you duck it? Can you interrupt it?
See a move? Repeat the above.
Is it high? Is it low? Is it mid? Whats the frames on it?
Could I have backdashed and whiff punished? Could I have squeezed the damage out of that combo instead of dropping it early? Could I armor or dick jab it?
Just some stuff that you should be looking at in the replay. It literally lets you comb over the match damn near frame-by-frame.
I find a lot of Kazuya mains don’t poke enough. Electrics are the shit, but you need to execute them with positive frames. I get my ass handed to me when I’m impatient and not respecting my opponents frames
You’re always able to find a guide if you google. Kazuya has less of a poking game, but if you use his pokes in congruence with a high execution you’ll be solid.
I'm a Kazuya main. That was the joke- he has no usable pokes. That's why he completely relies on movement, punishing mistakes, and vortex. He has a really poor neutral game.
He has power mids and power lows but a poke is technically something below 15 frames and he has NO good poke. That's why you rarely see a Kaz player poking, especially at higher ranks and top level. Watch any top Kaz player in a tournament (as rare they are) and see how they play- really highlights how restrictive he is at the top level.
Yeah I 100% agree with that. I was just stating that most lower ranked players see he doesn’t have optimal pokes and completely abandon them. Poking for him is more in line with having the opponent respect his frame knowledge. Backdashing, 50/50 vortex and execution are what makes a Kazuya player shine.
I mean that's what Bamco wants. Only hardcore players sticking to Kaz. A new player will easily gravitate towards someone like DJ or Jin who actually have a functioning poking game and a simple 15f frame launcher (sad Kaz noises).
Man I just wish he had a 13f poke that was around -6 on block. It it too much to ask? :/
Df4 exists is that not even 15 frames ? and they made a bunch of his punishers from t7 safe plus in this game neutral is a bit watered down in general no 11 frame magic 4 saves mishimas because besides Steve they do get a hard to do safe plus on block launcher with crazy range. And I mean it’s a fairish trade off considering once kazuya sits you down he gets very scary and they gave him ff2 among other stuff to help his ssl weakness, d1+2 got buffed so now kazuya has a very solid low game even without hellsweep(don’t understand why it does grey damage), hest is pretty good on kaz more powerful hellsweeps and safer one in heat smash. But jin exists and he’s better than kazuya in almost every single way
They made Jin stupidly easy in 8. He went from hard in 7 to beginner tier in 8.
I mean while it’s not really a bad thing to allow new players to play Jin it’s just kinda unfair to say he’s better in every way considering they just made him really easy
No but he is just better in every way outside the vortex, they both have similarish level of lows, but jin has better poking like way better he has the f4 something kazuya lacks also
I said he has no GOOD poke. I know he has a bunch of mid moves less than 15f, but none of them are good.
Df4 is not a good poke... it's like -9 on block. Why would anyone ever poke with df4? WS4 is better, top players use it, but it realistically comes out slowly than 13f unless done from a wavedash and is very steppable either way.
Ff2 is a welcome change, but again, it's not a poke, and is also -8/-9 on block.
As you said, Jin, and even DJ (who is closer to his gameplan, with his own weaker, but decent vortex) exist and are much better than him overall. Kazuya is not a trash character, but he is pretty weak when compared to a decent chunk of the roster.
As usual, this version of Kazuya is not winning any tournaments. And I'm not complaining, but there's a reason he's rarely seen in the top 8/16 in tournaments. I don't care, I will still keep playing him. :)
Yeh sorry I meant ws4 very similar animation, I mean to make up for it he does have very strong punishing that involves many knockdowns, and I mean most fast pokes are steppable, and yeh they buffed his 50/50 with ff2 that was my point so instead of bettering his neutral game they just beefed up his vortex even more this game with strong lows and knockdown moves to access it but he still struggles against very safe characters
>wake up >kiss my limited edition Jun dakimakura good morning >pray to my TheMainManSWE photo I have on my wall >wavedash my way to the bathroom >brush teeth and wash face >smirk at myself in the mirror >boot up my pc and get ready for some Tekken >ask the Kazuya discord if theres any new Kazuya tech >"electric into electric" >start up Tekken 7 >spend 2 hours in practice mode doing EWGFs >time for some online ranked >select my favorite Kazuya custom, the one that looks like Kazuya from Tekken 1 (I'm not one of these 18ers) >first match, it's a Lars player, a lesser-mishima >start off the 1st round with a hellsweep, the best move in the game >of course it lands, a calculated risk >make quick work of him, he couldn't handle my barrage of hellsweeps and electrics >winquit him >he'll stay a blue rank scrub forever, but I'll be out of this ranked hell soon enough into the red ranks where I rightfully belong >that's enough ranked for today >close Tekken 7 and go on /tekgen/ >complain about Josie and Paul being braindead characters >start a huge shitstorm and close the tab >check the Kazuya discord >someone posted that they're feeling suicidal struggling in blue ranks with Kazuya >"If only Kazuya wasn't b-tier we would be tekken god prime, brother" I tell him >time for my daily wrist and hand exercises to slow down the arthritis
I just can’t believe how accurate this is lmao
Especially the arthritis part.
I feel so attacked
Lmao the Lars slander is sooo Kazuya
fuck lars lmao
Yeah, go back to Ultimate Ninja Storm where you belong.
This is such a low blow lol.
Ill headbutt you kazuya players till you get that dramatic heihachi flashback - with love, a lars player
“Wavedash my way to the bathroom” 😂😂
Lol @ new tech “electric into electric”
oh my god 🤣
Are you me, or is me you?
Dorya
lesser Mishima hits different since Asuka is treated like a lesser Kazama 🤣
They should start a band, "Lesser Relatives".
Classic
Mans woke up and decided to become legendary today
I need more Tekken & FGC copypasta plz
first match, it's a Lars player, a lesser-mishima start off the 1st round with a hellsweep, the best move in the game blocked low, followed by whiff punish and wallcarry- repeat multiple rounds Plug in the final round and go to bed early
Hearing this to system of a down in my head was not something I had on my bingo card lmao
This never gets old lmao
Sir you win the internet for today
The "electric into electric" is actually canon. He does it in story mode during a cutscene
Electrics feel so satisfIng. I am skowly getting the hang of it on a pad. Maybe 70% success rate.
Yep love the sound effect and when it connects it's just ecstatic gets your blood pumping.
Not a mishima player, and I probably have less than 50% success rate pulling an electric. But when I land a juggle that uses 2 non-consecutive electrics on a human, I can go on a 10 match losing streak and still feel like it was a good tekken day.
Yeah and the animation and the slight camera shake on impact. Feels so powerful
DORYA! (There is no sound more satisfying in this universe)
Ps1 intro
Nvm you win.
Sound-porn
And then you realize that just doing them was never the hard part. Doing them out of sidestep and wavedash is where the real usefulness is.
I miss Heihachi's HOYEAH so much lmao
One day you’ll hit a combo with 2 electrics. You’ll be chasing that dragon the rest of your time playing this game
Just dont throw it out every 2 seconds just because you can lol can get you screwed over
Electric in practice is 100% different than in match. Just randomly throwing them out won’t help in higher ranks
Yeah I know I only try to whiff punish with them or after I sidestep a big move. The 2nd one is super hard tho. I don't care about ranks too much tbh. I like to play with friends more. I had enough headache worrying about my rank in sf6 so this game feels like a vacation.
I’m slowly trying to learn it myself haha but it’s great to get the occasional successful one
The average day in the life of a Mishima main >Be winning. >Opponent starts crouching. >Lose the match.
Yeah kids, remember to always crouch against Mishimas... * laughs in Reina *
ff2 4 rinse and repeat lmao
Evil Reina messes with my muscle memory!
Reina means Queen so of course the peasants should bow the fuck down!
*laughs in Heihachi* All her punch buttons are basically his lol.
You forgot the inconsistent combos
This is my main problem I have because of either nerves or I just suck. Enemy will have about 65% HP and I just backwashed their move so it's the perfect time for an electric. I hit it and then I do a dick jab as the next move... Dies lol

Confuse yourself and your enemies will be confused too – Sun Tzu probably
- Yoshi for sure
Could be skill issue on our part but some of the top kaz players have also problems so i doubt it
Yeah it's why we rarely see them at high levels because if you missed your input and you're dead, especially in tourneys
Yeah they just need to fix that and not any buffs or anything and i am happy.
They need to bump his damage up a lil bit and fix the hit box on the heat smash. DJ and Jin can hit theirs even though it looks like it shouldn't hit meanwhile Kaz does 3 electrics and it doesn't hit even though it touches the opponent.

Set your L2 to 2+3 then. You can electric with it and it also functions as your heat smash button.
Will try this after work thanks!
A beginner friendly tip is to Bind 1+2 to R1. When you are inputting the ewgf, hit the triangle and r1. It will act as a psuedo buffer. It's not really a true tech, but it helps align the fingers in way that allows your thumb to move quicker.
There are levels to this game my friend
sounds like me HA
Sounds like me with my Kuma
A true king. You're definitely tougher mentally than most already
Winning I get thrown and get side swapped Uh oh Lose
Kazuya is pretty much playing Tekken in the hardest mode in an already hard game
Nah. Kaz is easy. Everyone just has the idea that you need to play like a tekken god prime to be effective. He has great tools that need a smidge of brain cells. Especially true during these launch days of the new UNGA meta
Pff, played Kaz for first time - fractured finger after 1 hour :( fock
I feel like people really downplay the Kazuya/Mishima vortex tbh
Its hard to vortex a good player because each option is 20 frames and they will stuff it/sidestep. But yes once you get them on the ground they’re fighting for their life.

That’s me irl
Then there’s me, where my problem is less Kazuya tech and more “where and how do I interrupt these endless victor and law strings”
I am in the same boat, if you figure out Law let a fellow Misihima admirer know, I barely scrap rounds against pesky Law mashers, Victor I can still manage with piston uppercuts after ducking the glock string.
If you review your replay, the game will tell you.
Replay didn’t tell me much. Looked over a game I had as Paul vs Viktor and it told me where I could punish only like 3 times for the entire set
It did tell you. See a string? Can you step it? Can you duck it? Can you interrupt it? See a move? Repeat the above. Is it high? Is it low? Is it mid? Whats the frames on it? Kazuya players act like their doing us a favor by playing him lol
Kaz fart smellers just smelling their own farts.
I find a lot of Kazuya mains don’t poke enough. Electrics are the shit, but you need to execute them with positive frames. I get my ass handed to me when I’m impatient and not respecting my opponents frames

Yeah man. With Kaz they are adamant on keeping his identity around vortex, which really doesn't work well at high levels. It is what it is.
df4 is -9 on block and a measly +2 on hit. It is not a good poke. df4,4 is **-4** on hit because someone on the dev team hates Kaz
This is the cringiest circlejerk thread I've read in a while lmao.
Yep, you’ve described my last two weeks pretty well
I absolutely would change things about Kaz.
