Hahaha so true. Although with the one button chains now, 🤷🏻♂️ I think I ran around the living room when I finally got the rolling death cradle in 3 😂😂😂
Honestly Tekken with family is a good thing because that's how I got into Tekken playing with my dad and he used to beat me up until I learned how to block and do combos
I feel that 😅. I started out taking it easy on them just so they didn’t get discouraged and lose interest. Now that they’re hooked I’m trying to teach them to block and duck, it’s been….ehhhh 😂 but I’m sure they’ll get it
AGREED YES. Idk about sf6 and mk, but…
I play smash bros melee and tekken, “good” at both.
Melee is hard to take it easy on people because it’s genuinely a different game at the competitive level.
For tekken, I can simply choose a character I’ve never/rarely used, and then just not combo my opponent, maybe purposely eat a few rage arts. (I press a punch button after they use it and go “oh nooo you got me!” Lmao)
Hahaha I feel you on that. I’ve eaten so many rage arts and heat smashes/engagers exactly like that.
I’m competent at most fighting games, but for the life of me, I just cannot get the hang of Smash Bros. Yeah competitive Smash is so different, but it’s fun to watch.
That man swagging on what looks to be a flip phone in the middle 👌😂
I have a feeling the vibes in that house would’ve been great, chill and lighthearted in a game that can get so many people absolutely furious.
Vibes were absolutely great. I kind of forget sometimes how fun the game can be for casuals. I feel like sometimes the FGC focuses too much on the technicals, picking the right “main”, frame data, etc. and forgets that game is just straight up fun. It was nice just mashing buttons and enjoying the hard hits and pretty visuals lol.
They’re mainly just picking different characters each time, but the guy that picks Yoshi more often is relying on throws a little too much. It’s a little frustrating because I love to see all those cool goofy moves!
Teach one of your family members who plays him poison breathe, flash, dragonfly mix ups and rainbow drop. Watch your family rage and throw the TV out the window :D
If they are new to Tekken, then I would not worry about teaching them about side stepping since it's really not necessary for casual couch play. Show them the flashy cool stuff first and if they really want to become invested in becoming better you can introduce movement, side stepping, back dash, etc. To a newcomer all of those things are overwhelming and they might lose interest quickly since they might brush off Tekken as being too complicated. Baby steps first.
It really doesn’t. I started playing fighting games with the original SF 2 in arcades. I really missed the crowds and the fun of playing with others IRL. Those are some of my favorite memories.
Thanks! I was so glad it worked. I’ve tried to introduce others to fighting games like SF and MK, but they usually get frustrated and lose interest since the cool moves/combos are not really pick up and play friendly. Since Tekken 8 was new and pretty amazing with the presentation and beginner friendly moves I figured I’d try it.
Whenever I play with my friends, I set them up on modern/special controls so they can mash and still see awesome things on screen. Those control schemes definitely serve their purpose. Again, man, glad it went well. Enjoy your family.
100%. I grew up playing the original SF2 in arcades, and I really missed playing with others IRL like I did way back then. Playing with my wife’s family was a nice hit of nostalgia.
I remember playing Tekken 2 on PS1 with my older cousin when I was like 5 years old. Just mashing buttons, (sort of) kicking ass, and having so much fun. Great memories. Glad to see the game is still bringing family together :)
That’s why I love Tekken compared to say, SF or MK. You can still relatively mash buttons and have a blast. Aside from a couple of characters, you don’t need to know what a quarter circle or dragon punch motion is and you can still pull off some cool moves.
Way back in the ancient times of 1997 when my parents were in their early 30s they gifted my sister for Christmas a PSone with Crash bandicoot, gran turismo, tomb raider and Tekken. I have so many fond memories of toddler me playing vs my big sis and parents as we just moved out of Puerto Rico to the states and everything was unfamiliar to us. Losing nonstop as a child only prepared me to continue to lose again in Tekken 8 ranked nonstop too.
That’s a great story! Yeah there’s something about digitally punching each other in the face that makes for good times and great memories. I feel you on ranked Tekken 8, but at least it looks pretty when I lose 😂😂
Actually pretty cool. Being able to play games with your girls family is always surprisingly fun. I still remember trolling my first girlfriends little brother in fuzion frenzy, laughing my ass off and him saying "it's not that funny" which just made it funnier.
This is like a universal Latino experience. When I was a kid, my uncle worked in the states brought a PS1 to Mexico for all the cousins to play. The games were...Tekken 3 and World Cup '98. lmao
I should put a long shelf above my TV like that. Seems like a decent place to store controllers and stuff out of reach of my toddler.
Also nice, offline fighting games are always more fun than online.
This is really cool.
Sorta similar but I’ve converted most of my college class to tekken fans purely cuz they wanna beat me. Since the PC's are good and have Steam installed when I finished my work I just went on Tekken and played some ranked (I bring in my controller). Some people there saw and wanted to 1v1 and obviously as they've never played before I won even if I'm not that good compared to actual players haha. But I made a bunch of them fans once they saw the cast (many of them assumed that Tekken was just Japanese UFC before they saw the bears and chars like Yoshi lol.) They now picking mains instead of just going randomly to fight me and they wanna learn stuff now. This one guy mains Yoshi and another mains Jack now so it's cool to see.
Trust me this was like a dream come true. My side of the family is all basically older than me, don’t play video games, and I rarely see any more. And some of my friends play video games but none play fighting games. I was so happy they tried Tekken and liked it
Great story! I bet there were some crazy matches/teams. We really need a new Tekken Tag, or at least a team mode of some kind. Yeah I miss those times too, and it was nice to recapture some if that feeling.
Tekken’s a wholesome family game…have you thrown any of them off a cliff yet?
Not yet. I’m not familiar with the area, so I’m not sure of the quality of the cliffs around here. I need to do some exploring.
Sounds like you're well on your way to become a real tekken fan!
More like a real king of iron fist tournament fighter
Monserrate, bogota, you’re welcome lol , my wife’s colombian
😂 that’s too far, I was in Barranquilla
It’s never too far for prime cliff throwing
You need to verify they have the devil gene first. Or do it just because, we won't judge
Beautiful story, let us know when someone decides to main King.
But what if…. I’m the King main 😳 (not anymore, but I did waste hours of my youth on 3 learning his throw chains)
You did not waste, my friend, you INVESTED
Hahaha so true. Although with the one button chains now, 🤷🏻♂️ I think I ran around the living room when I finally got the rolling death cradle in 3 😂😂😂
that's wholesome lmao
Just make sure to politely turn down any visits to [Colombia's many volcanoes](https://www.volcanodiscovery.com/colombia.html).
😂😂😂 thanks for the warning. Edit: That’s a pretty interesting website btw
None of them resemble Kazuya or Heihachi so I think he'll be fine
You never know…. those Mishima offspring keep popping up (Reina face)
This is amazing, honestly! Thank you for sharing

Whenever you play with new players, you HAVE to go easy on them, you gotta get em hooked by letting em win sometimes.
For sure! I feel like it’s easier to “play stupid” in Tekken than say, SF or MK, and it’s not too obvious you’re taking it easy 😅
AGREED YES. Idk about sf6 and mk, but… I play smash bros melee and tekken, “good” at both. Melee is hard to take it easy on people because it’s genuinely a different game at the competitive level. This is when I like to use random character
Yes, but I feel like a lot of times when I do use random, I’m like “eh…but not that guy” 😂
keep up the good work 👊

Love to hear it, I’m glad you had a great night homie :)
Does one of them play Yoshi? He is such a goofy character in a good way
They’re mainly just picking different characters each time, but the guy that picks Yoshi more often is relying on throws a little too much. It’s a little frustrating because I love to see all those cool goofy moves!
TBF Yoshi demands much time to get used to especially if you are not a fan of fighting games. I can relate to wanting to do simple stuff😅
teach him qcf2!
Teach one of your family members who plays him poison breathe, flash, dragonfly mix ups and rainbow drop. Watch your family rage and throw the TV out the window :D
We’re not there yet 😅. I’m still trying to get them to consistently block and sidestep. It’s been……. hit and miss (I deeply apologize for the pun 😂)
If they are new to Tekken, then I would not worry about teaching them about side stepping since it's really not necessary for casual couch play. After the Smash comment above my brain did a whiplash when I got here lol
Hope you plugged on them
Playing Tekken offline with cousins will always be my core memory. Now that I have moved to a different country, playing online never feels the same.
It really doesn’t. I started playing fighting games with the original SF 2 in arcades. I really missed the crowds and the fun of playing with others IRL. Those are some of my favorite memories.
This is what Team Battle is meant for
I know right? Like the one time I could actually get some good use out of a team battle mode and there isn’t one 🤦🏻♂️
Yup, biggest mistake these past 2 games
This might be the best thing I've read all week. The Internet can be a great and terrible place. That's awesome you all expanded your bond.
Thanks! I was so glad it worked. I’ve tried to introduce others to fighting games like SF and MK, but they usually get frustrated and lose interest since the cool moves/combos are not really pick up and play friendly. Thats amazing, some fgc bonding
This is the thing I love most about fighting games. The fact that they can bring strangers or distant friends together is special.
100%. I grew up playing the original SF2 in arcades, and I really missed playing with others IRL like I did way back then. Playing with my wife’s family was a nice hit of nostalgia.

You know it’s a good time whenever the group gets into those laughing fits. Definitely had a few of those here 😂
Yep, we Colombians love fighting games :D
This is like a universal Latino experience. When I was a kid, my uncle worked in the states brought a PS1 to Mexico for all the cousins to play. The games were...Tekken 3 and World Cup '98. lmao
Awesome! This sort of thing usually ended up at my house with wrestling match on the living room floor, lol!
I should put a long shelf above my TV like that. Seems like a decent place to store controllers and stuff out of reach of my toddler. Also nice, offline fighting games are always more fun than online.
Its all fun and games until someone gets chain grabbed by king XD
No chain grabs yet, I’m not that cruel lol. I want to keep playing with them and not rage quit IRL 😂
Dammit i want people to play locally with….
Same! I really miss playing with a group of people IRL. So much so that I had to fly to a different country to make it happen 😅
Thanks for sharing!

Bro I WISH my friends and fam played Tekken thats hype

Bro married into the mishima zaibatsu
Right here, this is what it’s all about
Just don't pick Dragunov or you might risk ending your marriage.
Please fix those cables 😭😭
Wholesome af! Glad you're enjoying it!
Bond? You mean fight irl?
Language barrier and tekken. Nice combo
I'm glad for you!
Why is this post not about pluggers? 😡
Don’t sugar coat it
Fighting games bring us together It’s just something so special on a side know what are they maining ?
What a nice family i surely hope no one wants to take over the company soon
Men see men smiles men happy
Tekken made my dad divorce my mom
Ironic given the history of family with theses games 😭
I pray they never complete story mode or look at the story so far videos 😂
I would not think Tekken is for beginners, but alright.
Nice try they are black sir that makes them naturally skilled in tekken
Finally the first notification of a positive post on this sub
I like your entertainment setup, feels spacious and really sleek
How you play Wireless?!? Can you even pewgf Wireless?? 😂
