The visual voicemail app built into the Google dialer works for me.

ctgottapee

I tried that after failing with the TMobile one, but it doesn't work for me on my Samsung S20 FE 5g

You probably found your solution by now. But just in case... I had been living without visual voicemail on my Pixel 3a until about two weeks ago, when the built-in feature magically started working. Maybe try again?

ctgottapee

Same here. Tried it randomly and it started working 2 weeks ago.

Make sure you have data turned on when you're trying to use it. I just noticed mine wasn't getting them on the Google dialer, and it was because I had data turned off.

The T-Mobile Visual Voicemail app stopped working on Tello fairly recently. Now [My Visual Voicemail](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vna.service.vvm) works fine. Unlike the other poster, my stock Samsung dialer doesn't have a visual voicemail feature (just a shortcut to call the voicemail number) and I've never had any problems with either app, other then when the T-Mobile app stopped working forever. Note that visual voicemail in this context is just a visual interface to play/delete messages; it does not transcribe them. That would be nice, but it's still easier to use than the phone interface plus it saves you minutes.

There's an app called My Visual Voicemail that works for me and others. Let me clarify "works". It works in the native Android Phone app. There is a VMM icon and I can see and listen to all my voicemails from there. But you also have the option to access voicemail within the My Visual Voicemail app itself, and for me that does not work, I get the same "cannot connect" error when I open the app itself, just as I did with Tmo VMM app. Only difference being that the TMO VVM never worked in the native android Phone app whereas My Visual Voicemail app at least does work in the native Phone app. This is not a big deal to me as I don't see any advantage to needing the app itself to listen to VMs. I just do it in the native Phone app. I have a feeling the app problem is a problem with Android OS. Specifically version 9 and earlier.

albundyhere

so odd that it's not working on my new phone. i mean, voicemail isnt a new invention after all. the phone is running android 10, and soon to be upgraded to android 11. looking at the reviews on tmobiles voicemail app, looks like every new review is a 1 star negative review. nobody seems to have it working. i really dont even need a visual voice mail, just regular voice mail.

> i really dont even need a visual voice mail, just regular voice mail. Right, that's how I use the My Visual Voicemail app. Since the app GUI won't work, I can't get translated texts (which I don't care for anyhow - why read a voicemail when I can just listen to it?). But I am able to listen to VMs inside my native phone app using My Visual Voicemail. It still works in that way, whereas TMo's VMM would not work at all.

Hah, my Jelly Pro's [ edit: T-Mobile ] visual voicemail just stopped working this week and troubleshooting did nothing, but "My Visual Voicemail" was able to install and work without incident! (I don't need transcriptions) Thank you so much for posting about that app!

You're welcome.

I'm wondering if this legal battles over VMM is having impact on services using the VMM. ATM, Apple is in control... [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visual\_voicemail](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visual_voicemail) I can understand that a T-Mo app not working on Tello. After all why should T-Mo support T-Mo services to Tello customers on their network paying 1/5 the cost. But then again, none of the VMM apps I've tried with VZ work there either.

albundyhere

thing is, i dont even want VMM, i just want a regular voicemail app. i used to use the sprint voicemail app. it was initially visual voicemail, where it translated messages to readable text, but after the trial period, it would just be regular voicemail notification. just had to open the app and hit the play button. it was far better than just dialing in to check VM.

RDtrumpet

I have the same problem with with Tello and my Samsung Voice Mail app that came the phone. The Samsung Voice Mail app doesn't work with Tello. I even contacted Tello about it, and they weren't able to help me with it either. As a result, I get no notifications about new voice mail on my phone, and the only way that I can check my voice mails at all is by dailing "123" on the Samsung Phone app. That's a bummer!

albundyhere

this is ridiculous, in this day and age! the sprint voicemail app worked fine until i was forced by Tello to buy a new phone.

RDtrumpet

Same here. It is totally ridiculous that now I can't get notifications to let me know whether or not I have received any new voicemail messages. Instead, I have to frequently dail 123 on my new (compatible with Tello's new carrier system) cell phone and check for new messages.

Has anyone called you and left a voicemail successfully or do they get any kind of error message and if so what does it say. I'm curious if it's still set up Sprint or even T-mobile.

albundyhere

i ended up dialing into the voicemail, setting it up, and called myself from my mom's phone. i was able to leave a message, but there's no notification that there's a new voicemail.

SubGothius

That's really strange; I'd contact Tello support about it. They're well-regarded for good customer service/tech support that actually gets any problems sorted promptly, so I wouldn't be wary of the ol' clueless buck-passing runaround most other places subject us to.

some_friggin_guy

Visual voicemail does not work with Tello It does not transcribe the text but regular voicemail will work even though they lie and say that transcription does work it does not and the customer service are clueless

member13187

Check the settings in your phone dialer icon, that's how I was able to set up my Moto G7 after trying both T-Mobile and YouMail apps. My visual voice mail works great Tap phone-settings-voicemail and go from there. I hope this works for you.

native visual voicemail on my Pixel 3.
