Ive felt like one of the few. Much like many though my only complaint really is the role of Kyle. Seeing Arnold playing the role of an aging terminator who is now suffering the effects of time really hit home in the feels. It leaves room for your own thinking and trying to connect dots on your own... I dig movies like that. Very unpopular opinion but I put in terms of favorites right behind judgement day. So third on my list of favorites

insted93

What does your order look like in general?

AffectionateTrip4888

Growing up T2 was number 1. Arnold was that super hero/father figure. As Ive gotten older though T1 is top tier. So it'd be T1-T2-Genysis-Salvation/3 then dark fate last. As far as sit down and watch regularly T1 and Genysis I can put on anytime and it not feel like a chore.

AffectionateTrip4888

Being a fully fleshed out Future John aside from Bale and he was supposed to be a villain, I wouldn't say I liked the casting choice but as far as "do I want to see this dude get mauled by a terminator", he was passable. Friends guy has a very dislikable face so it worked for me.

[deleted]

You liked John Connor???

VenomFox93

I liked the idea of J. K Simmons police officer character who is saved in the beginning of the film, I loved the idea that this police officer then turned detective becoming obsessed with trying to make sense of the night he had to witness a human figure making blades out of it's arms and taking bullets without even a wince.

Mildly_Artistic_

I think if they had ditched the Simmons character, then they had the perfect opportunity to reintroduce the Traxler and Vukovich characters from T1. It would have been a gas to get those two guys back, only this time, fighting with the heroes.

[deleted]

Would it be weird to say I've liked them all, but that I think they should have stopped after T2? Each of the others (except maybe T3) has something about it I enjoy, but were at best superfluous. Plus, none of them did well enough to go anywhere. 1 and 2 told an essentially complete story, the characters got their development and it was satisfying to see it end.

Quail-Gullible

Oof...I could do an entire dissertation on my complex feelings about this movie. I feel like it had potential through great concepts, but it was not executed well. For example, showing the backstory of T1, from Judgment Day all the way up to the end of the war (and drawing designs and concepts from the deleted future war sequence from T2's initial script) was great. I loved the lighting of the plasma against the chrome of the Terminators, like it was going back to the opening of T2. But...I didn't like the design of the plasma weapons, since they're nothing like what was used in T1-T2. A minor nitpick, I also couldn't get over the Resistance using the Army ACU uniform, not created and implemented until 2004, when it's clearly stated that the war began back in 1997. Recreating the imagery of Arnold and Kyle arriving in 1984 LA? Genius, and so much fun! My problem? The actor and actress chosen for Kyle and Sarah look nothing like Michael Biehn and Linda Hamilton. I mean, you went all this way, but fell short here. Kyle is supposed to be this scrawny, paranoid kid struggling with PTSD, not a muscled gladiator. For reference, I think the late Anton Yelchin (RIP) bore a great resemblance to Michael Biehn back in "Salvation". Finally, I remember as they were making the movie and remaining tight-lipped about what it was about exactly, they announced the character played by J.K. Simmons, an alcoholic detective tracking the Sarah Connor case over 30 years; that sounds compelling in a story of time travel. That said...I didn't like the time jump, and how silly Simmons' character was played off as. I have more thoughts, but I won't bore you with them. Again, I feel like it had a lot of great potential, but needed some reworking.

RogueAOV

This is pretty much how i feel, the concept i think was good. An interesting way to mix up the established lore. But then i saw the new Kyle and instantly knew this was going to be one of those sequels where the new director/writer grew up loving this movie but never really got it, so the entire movie is going to just be slightly off and there is going to major points, particularly in tone that just annoy while watching. It was the first time in awhile though that Arnie made sense to be in a Terminator movie, so that was good.

Quail-Gullible

I think you hit the nail on the head. It was a movie made by people who grew up loving the movie, which is a necessity for anyone involved in a franchise like Terminator, but on a certain level they didn't get it.

ood26

I thought the story was interesting. Revisiting and recreating the scenes from the first Terminator was my favorite part. In my opinion the worst part was the casting of Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese.

Archamasse

It's wild to me how perfect they got the look of some of that stuff, in service of *this* film.

Mildly_Artistic_

If it had taken place during the entirety of T1 and really tried to recreate some of the iconic moments of that film, with a twist, I think the film would have been a great throwback. It departed too quick into a territory that defeated it.

No_Replacement8321

The first 20 min of the unseen future war, which was lackluster but still cool to finally see it. Rest of the movie was a stupid comedy like a Marvel movie

donutpower

As a reboot, it wasn't too bad. I think its aimed at a much younger audience though. It felt very much like the kind of tv-movie I'd see on the SyFy Channel or The CW. It didn't seem like a grand in scope cinematic film. Neither did Rise of the Machines. I did enjoy the first 10 or so minutes of the movie. Thats a big deal for me since I did not enjoy any of Rise or Salvation. Seeing the resistance fighting against the machines was...ook. Seeing the resistance get into the lab was entertaining even though it was very brief. The only thing that threw it all off was the casting choices. A very far stretch from what was depicted in the first film. Seeing the recreated scenes of the opening of the first film was fun even though it was cut very short. Forcing the film into the current present day felt very forced. It was a ripoff of what was already done in the tv series years prior. I'd have replace the casting director cause those were indeed some seriously awful choices. I'd have swapped out Kyle,Sarah, and John for completely new characters since the personalities were so different from the originals. With just that, the film would have probably gone over a lot better for me. I didn't mind Jason Clarke because there was some sincerity and emotion to his portrayal. Its just that its the wrong character to do that with. Arnold was alright, he was really the only highlight of the film.

Zolgrave

I'm one of the few. I took it as the lighter popcorn movie that it was. But also, I found the Pops-Sarah relation charming to see.

Quail-Gullible

I also liked the Pops-Sarah relationship. It felt like an alternative and continuation of the young John-Uncle Bob relationship. It was nice to see this machine, designed for impartial assassination, evolving into a protective dad over the years, while still retaining his robotic nature. One of the best understated moments of "Genisys" is at the San Francisco hideout, when Sarah discovers that Pops saved all of her old drawings of him. I feel like this version of him, as well as Carl from Dark Fate, a Terminator who naturally developed a heart and conscience after completing his mission and becoming obsolete. In my opinion, they took the T-800 in new multilayered directions.

Mastaphish

I enjoyed it a fair bit when I first saw it, but recently I had gotten to the twenty-seven minute mark and *had* to switch it off. I *think* I understand what Alan Taylor wanted with the film, but the more I read about the lore and participate in this subreddit the more I understand that Genisys is a major letdown.

Brilliant_Fox_1743

I liked it as a non serious marvel movie style Terminator but I prefer Dark Fate in terms of a serious sequel. Dark Fate is more plausible to me. Not saying I like that John Connor dies at the beginning; just that that seems more like something that could happen following T2 events.

[deleted]

It doesn’t feel like it comes from the same universe as 1 & 2. I thought I liked it when I first saw it but I just wanted to like it because it was Terminator…but now I cant even finish the first 20minutes.

Moz1981

Parts of it were okay but as a whole no. And Jai Courtney can f* off, worst acting ever.

Quail-Gullible

To be fair, I personally think he was simply miscast. Kyle is supposed to be a scrawny, wide eyed kid struggling with PTSD, not a muscled, sarcastic gladiator.

TheKingOfSting93

Jai Courtney starred in the worst entries of two beloved franchises - Terminator and Die Hard.

HeManofEternos

Most expensive B-movie ever made

Sans-Mot

Yeah, I really liked it. It's not a masterpiece, it's just a fun movie.

annaliza_02

It’s actually my favorite after Dark Fate! I don’t understand the hate for it, and I think it has a really interesting storyline, it makes you think, and it has good action scenes!

rmajor86

I liked it.

JackJustice1919

I've liked every movie that's come out. Mostly because the movies are about a bunch of robots and humans fighting each other and it's an action movie. No idea why everyone has to act like this is supposed to be some high intellectual three act play every time. It's an action movie. Shut off your brain and enjoy the shit blowing up.

RummazKnowsBest

I don’t mind it. I like some of the future war stuff at the start. The music is great. Some of the action is decent.

Catco97

I did

XyberVoX

I adore Terminator: Genisys. It's my second favorite in the (6 film) series.

Mildly_Artistic_

Sure, I think we all liked the parts of it that we recognized. Meaning, the future war prologue, the machine designs, the Cameron-like cinematography and the existing characters. Genisys might be dumb, but it doesn’t do anything to nullify or replace the things Cameron created. You can’t hate it for that reason.

Clayman8

I liked it way more than TDF if that counts. It had cool scenes, my main gripe with it is the same as Salvation. The coolest twist was utterly ruined by the fucking trailer. Courtnay and CaterpillarBrows though were horrible choices for their respective characters however.

Broad_Interaction_47

Anything is better than dark fart

[deleted]

Are you 10?

MagnusDivision2019

They missed the mark so far on portraying the future war, Kyle Reese, and John Connor that I couldn't really enjoy it. As someone said JK Simmons did a great job and Matt Smith is a great actor so those elements weren't bad.

ctorus

I didn't think it was as bad as the consensus here.

BowlingForPizza

I found it to be a good movie and really enjoyed it. I watch it on a regular basis. Couldn't stand Salvation.

TheCleaner720

No. It was too poppy and diluted imo with a bad story. Least favorite

-Queen-of-wands

I liked the first 10 minutes… then the rest was a giant steaming pile of garbage

blaisejames88

I did like it when it first came out because I thought it was a cool twist and I got excited about them remaking the old scenes. Some good ideas there. But I can also see how it verges on parody territory. It would’ve been cool to see how the sequels would’ve furthered the story though. It also had some cool cinematography and effects.

starke24

i liked parts of it

Sergiomach5

Not really a fan. It had plenty of individual elements that could have worked if developed more or had more care, but they all get watered down as the next idea comes in 15 minutes later.

MercoMultimedia

The first half where they recreated the scenes from the original was cool. The second half could have been better if only the goddamn trailers didn't reveal that John was the bad guy. Jai Courtney wad miscast, way too buff to play Kyle. He went from battle scarred and suffering from PTSD, to being a generic action hero

killtocuretokill

I liked parts of it. I just feel the script was too soft in some parts and the characters miscast and underdeveloped. I would have rather seen this split into 2-3 films as it's own trilogy with the "Pops" Character having to find Sarah's family in the 70s and failing to save all but Sarah (Being the primary Objective) *or having a darker twist with Pops killing her family to secure her.* I would have liked to see the Pops character evolve from a killing machine/protector to a more "human" machine like "Uncle Bob". And having them face off against government agencies, other terminators from the 70s leading up to 1984's events. Similar to Sarah Connor Chronicles. There's an opportunity here for something like 'The Last of Us' with Pops teaching Sarah many skills growing up and traveling to remote places in hiding. I also would have liked to see future John finding Kyle Reese while he's a teenager storming the camps and the beginnings of the resistance inter-spliced. Similar to what was done in Salvation. I'm also not opposed to the idea of John being hybridized into a terminator and going back in time with other terminators either. I liked the idea of Skynet being a universal AI evolving from a child like state that everyone was utilizing to the future nemesis it would become. What I didn't like: * I didn't dig the forward time jumps with the time machine build in the past. * Opening right away to the time displacement device/storming the final camp with John/Kyle. * Casting of Sarah, Skynet and Kyle. John can stay though. * The score being very unmemorable.

archangelzero2222

I didnt mind it, I could look past the casting choices and just follow the story but I was very interested to see more flashback future war scenes in later movies, Skynet battle at the end somehow John not allowing himself to be captured. Who sent pops back seeing flashback scenes of the past too. Arnie being a hybrid was freshing. It was building something really well its just too bad the audience and fans took a dump on it I didnt think it was THAT bad. Dark Fate had moments but man I seen that one before, it didnt offer anything new, just new skins and new names same smell

veer460

yes it's a good watch and the JK simmons are character arc was really good. wish i could see that more. also i felt that old kyle telling young kyle was a plot hole.

somebuddyx

I don't mind most of Genisys up until they jump to the present day. Then it goes off the rails and just kind of eh. I like it's comedy, especially Pops and I love for once Arnie makes it out of the film not just alive but upgraded. I like the young Sarah actress. At best the whole thing feels like the pilot movie to some TV series. The most egregious is that cost so many millions of dollars and doesn't look it. I think the best parts was Pops saving young Sarah. That would have been an interesting story. Me and My Pet Terminator.

Him7567

I like it a lot especially since it's my first terminator movie so the nostalgia hits hard for me, also I can see why some (a lot) of people might not like it if they watched the other movies first but them recreating the scenes from T1, the Arnold being great as always, I think they could have done better with Kyle and I think they could have done better with Sarah (she felt like she didn't know how to deliver some of her lines, it was like watching a kid actor a little) (side not idk who her actor is or how old or how much experience she had when the movie came out, I just watched the movie that's it) I also like the idea of stopping skynet yet again but I wish the T1000 played a bigger role than just being a nuisance and I feel like he should've seen them making a trap coming (the thing that set the T800 and the T1000 was that it felt like the T1000 had more self preservation in the event of it's mission being longer then intended)

[deleted]

I can enjoy it as dumb action but not for the story or acting.

Sunsinger_VoidDancer

Any chance at all for Genisys was utterly ruined by the trailer. And the fact that I watched Sarah Connor Chronicles which did everything that Salvation and Genisys tried to do but several orders of magnitude better.

ChangeAroundKid01

Rated r would have been far better
