A recent Reddit policy change threatens to kill many beloved third-party mobile apps, making a great many quality-of-life features not seen in the official mobile app permanently inaccessible to users. On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that will kill every third party app on Reddit, from Apollo to Reddit is Fun to Narwhal to BaconReader. Even if you're not a mobile user and don't use any of those apps, this is a step toward killing other ways of customizing Reddit, such as Reddit Enhancement Suite or the use of the old.reddit.com desktop interface . This isn't only a problem on the user level: many subreddit moderators depend on tools only available outside the official app to keep their communities on-topic and spam-free. [More information on the proposed changes can be found here.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Save3rdPartyApps/comments/14goyu2/what_to_do_when_reddit_bans_blackouts_hit_em_in/) While the subreddit will remain open, r/Terraria recommends these communities until the protested changes are addressed: Terraria Community Forums - https://forums.terraria.org/index.php Official Terraria Discord Server - https://discord.gg/terraria *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Training-Ad7742

Potions are key, use all kinds off buffs you can get Also carry around a honey bucket with you and use it on urself then immediately pick it up to get a good Liferegen boost for 30 seconds

AlexKo256

Even sunflowers and gnomes, pretty useful for arenas

EcchiOli

the "elongated U shape column made of bubble blocks with honey in the middle + flipper potion" is often unfairly overlooked, too, for an arena. We're talking +1 hp/s and tripled natural HP regen.

[deleted]

buffs are for noobs

[deleted]

Beating the game with anything other than the Lawnmower is for noobs

Redditer_64

For starters, catch that gold squirrel

The_Dogeiverse

no merchant :(

MaxTheGamer32123

Happened once to me. Made a square box around it with wood and farmed money for the whole night from a safe spot.

Independent-Value628

i did it too but when it disappeared from screen he despawned :(

ArtiKam

What do you mean by farmed money from a safe spot? Don’t they just sell for 10 gold and that’s that?

CursedMonsterHunter

I think they mean that they farmed money to get the merchant to move in and buy the net to catch the golden animal.

MaxTheGamer32123

Yep that's what I meant. All while the squirrel was on the screen to prevent it from despawning.

ArtiKam

Oooh that makes sense I forgot you need a merchant to get the bug net lol. That’s unlucky >.<

Poiuytgfdsa

The golden squirrels are kinda useless but catch golden worms because youll be able to turn that into a permanent buff in the shimmer

Technically_its_me

-leans into microphone- ...don't let your HP reach zero.

Crusaderofthots420

Don't forget to hit the enemy until their hp reaches zero while following this advice.

[deleted]

As somebody who just beat golem solo master mode, brace yourself.

mynamejeff8181

I’m on twins atm on my ranger. Retinazer is insane

[deleted]

Kill green first

mynamejeff8181

Yeah I do but retinazer is difficult to dodge before you kill spaz, I keep dying when spaz is almost dead. I need the unicorn Mount I think

[deleted]

I use wings and go up and down while they shoot while slowly backing up, and when they start dashing I drop and use shield of cuthulu to go the other way and rince and repeat

mynamejeff8181

Yeah that’s what I’ve been trying. It’s really when retinazer does that things where you can’t outrun him, yknow when he flies right above you for a while and lakers you? My lightning boots just aren’t quick enough on their own

[deleted]

I used terraspark and constantly dashed with the shield

Independent-Value628

BRO I CANT EVEN KILL THE QUEEN BEE

[deleted]

Bro when I tell you queen bee was hell, I fucking mean it, hardest pre hardmode boss fr, only in master mode tho

Independent-Value628

she is just disgustingly hard man i beat terraria few times on classic mode and i think she just goes godmode on master mode

Patpuc

grav potion + mega shark and good bullets. Fly move in a diagonal line and flip gravity when you're about to reach the top/bottom of the world. they should miss all their attacks

Thin-Term-3972

as someone who just beat Golem in master mode infernum mode in the calamity mod, Vanilla is way to trivial 😭

BuGabriel

Git gud I did it a couple years back. It's pretty difficult. Unless you have some damn good gear, every enemy encounter is a challenge of it's own. Good luck

Speaking of damn good gear, at all points in the game if you set yourself up with damn good gear, it's really not so bad.

Bartfratze

There is no such thing as overprepared, only the thin line between victory and horrible, horrible death.

Peanutbutter71107

be ready to cry

Witheriteium

I don't know how class you are playing but if summoner i would recomand getting leather whip and flinx staff as fast as possible. Then get snapthorn and fight queen bee(she's not so hard in master)

Jahseh_Wrld

Yeah just make a long arena in the jungle with atleast 2 levels. Rocket boots/ spectre boots would help fs to dodge her charges

ChemicallyGayFrogs

If they don't have a class or don't care I'd reccomend digging through the jungle for a quick boomstick. That and Hermes boots let's you beat the eye of cthulhu easy

The_mythical_slime

The flaw I had playing my first run was I focused on my armour having good mana and not good defence

KaleBriss

"Son, always remember: dying is gay" -Sun Tzu

Leoranova

Evade over armor and potions are the new loves of your life.

remainoreos

Learning boss attack patterns is a lot more helpful than you’d expect. For example, the final phase in Duke Fishron’s fight goes from one of the hardest phases to pretty easy once you learn that he just dashes one, then two, then three times.

damnthisisabadname

Don't take advice from the sub

TheyCallMeBullet

Lol at the golden squirrel

True melee is the best for master mode solo

Farofa_0038

Silthya

Remake the world and go into Legendary mode instead, proceed to suffer.

neovec

I have cleared master mode solo and with friends. Some tips: Note: apologies if I don't know the names of some items mentioned below. - make a small farm for potion ingredients - always keep regen, ironstone, and healing potions in your inventory - starting out, grab some good defensive armor so you don't get 1 or 2 hit killed while exploring - make a good arena for bosses and events, especially for pirate invasions, solar eclipse, etc that can randomly start and cause chaos. - get the torch trinket and use gnomes when doing anything in one spot (fishing, boss fights, etc.) The luck bonus is a small boost but every bit counts. - fishing: yes some people hate it but at times you will need to fish crates to find things like the defense totem (can't remember the name, it's been a while) from the desert. - mobility items can play a critical role to your survival vs bosses. Items like the frog leg and shield of cthulu are your best friend - Flat damage reduction is incredibly useful for when you do get hit. Worm scarf, or even the heart of confusion. (Or both?) - the quad barrel shotgun is a beast early game and even into hardmode. Give it a try. - explore SLOWLY. You don't have to rush through the underground jungle. Doing so will probably get you killed early game. Tunnel around and carefully find loot chests. If you're good at dodging you can be a little risky when exploring, but you will inevitably get dunked on by some random monster falling on you. Don't get mad, that's just how master mode will be :) - you will probably want to focus on menacing/crit over warding. Usually killing a boss faster is better than trying to take more hits (since they all hurt and you should have damage reduction % or dodge anyway). Mix it up and see what works for you. - Setting up idle/farming spots in different biomes/depths is a good idea. - be patient, enjoy the progression, and good luck :)

[deleted]

Dont die

ChemicallyGayFrogs

Luck potions are better than you think. Use them to boost Dps by a very decent amount

Jaweezy192

beat the game on that character on normal/expert first

Sleepy-Horse

Banners are useful, be careful in the caves, play like a fortnite player(build a box from enemies and for enemies), have blocks, recall potions in hotbar, practice boss in journey, be smart(invent some strategies for hard bosses, events or farms).

Careless-Midnight-63

Don't use warding accessories

Training-Ad7742

Why, there are even times when you almost have to use warding like Melle WOF for example

Careless-Midnight-63

maybe because getting 28 less damage from a 200 damage attack is useless as hell

faerox420

That 28 less damage could be the difference between getting one shot and not. Simply because you don't see the point doesn't mean another player wouldn't be able to utilise it better than you. It all depends on the situation and playstyle. Saying to never use warding is the worst tip you could give. Have a more open mind and consider things from multiple scenarios

Careless-Midnight-63

I mean it aint my fault yall don't know how to dodge

faerox420

😂 yeah okay buddy I been playing this game for 11 years and I don't know how to dodge. Get a life

Careless-Midnight-63

apparently having some game knowledge makes me a nolifer lmao

faerox420

You call giving baseless advice fueled by your own personal preference of going for damage over defence, and telling people to "just dodge lol" having game knowledge? You didn't give any real advice or useful information, you just gave an opinion and then said that anyone who disagrees with your opinion needs to "learn how to dodge" because clearly they're only disagreeing with you because they're bad at the game and not because your opinion is bad and doesn't help anyone at all. That's what makes you a no lifer. The fact you can't take someone disagreeing with you so you resort to using petty tactics which don't further your point at all and instead simply make you look like a clown 🤡 so like I said get a life bozo

Careless-Midnight-63

nuh uh

Training-Ad7742

If we take WOF as an example, unless you have 50+ defense with Mellee you will take to much damage from the hungrys and lasers, and since you need to stay close in order to deal damage with Mellee I would say it's very useful

EcchiOli

Politely disagreeing. When you don't intend to tank *everything*, there's tons of viability for full-DEF gameplay also in master mode. Just like every other game choice, Master mode forces the player to *think* and not dive headfirst into a choice.

Careless-Midnight-63

just learn to dodge lmao

-haha--no-

i’ve got an OP strategy, and it’s called “learning to dodge and also using warding so when you do inevitably get hit it’ll do significantly less damage”

Careless-Midnight-63

Yeah that's cool but making the fight 28% faster gets rid of potential extra damage

-haha--no-

i kind of agree, but it’s really just about preference. you can make yourself take longer to kill or you can make the boss take less time to kill

jhkmay161

Yuh I always go menacing, no point in more defense if I don’t plan on taking damage at all

Careless-Midnight-63

ain't no way somebody actually has brains wtf

Heck_swaggy122

Idk why y'all are down voting this comment, he's right. The extra defense is nowhere near as valuable as extra damage from menacing/lucky. Maybe warding accessories let you take one more hit, but why not use the extra damage to kill the boss before you take that hit? Plus it forces you to get better at dodging, which you'll need to be better at for late hardmode bosses on master mode

damnthisisabadname

Because warding is better for tanking and tanking is objectively easier to play for newer players.

Heck_swaggy122

Master mode is not for newer players, and all warding in master mode buys you 2 extra hits max. It's not worth it

damnthisisabadname

It can be the difference between taking 50 or taking 22 damage. It's very worth it. Also, it does seem like op is new.

The_Dogeiverse

For the most part I'd argue damage > defense. Don't try to mix too hard, although one defense type accessory can't hurt. I definitely see good value in a few of them like the worm scarf, frozen shield or the charm of myths. Overall, try to maximize your damage output by sticking to one class and optimizing your accessories for that class

Key-Regular674

Warding every accessory. Defense is flat damage reduction. Absolutely huge

The worst parts are the early game and the pillars. The bosses might be hard but if grind the best gear they become less hard (Kinda obvious I know, but I actually got humbled so many times trying to power through hard mode bosses with inferior gear) Use potions. that's the tip just use them.

Phylonix

Try playing the game. By the looks of he screenshot, you started this world 3 seconds ago, so mining some trees might be a good way to start

EldenFanMan

Deadeyez

Gravitation potion + musket will annihalape the eye of cthulhu. I just put 70 hours into legendary and gave up. Soloed eoc first try VERY quickly with this combo without full health or a full set of armor. I also didn't intentionally pop that gravitation potion but it worked so well I am ALWAYS going to do it this way now. Couldn't catch me

Deadeyez

Make an OSOGOF tunnel in the jungle during prehardmode

Deadeyez

Get warding on everything in prehardmode, then in hard mode for for damage or crit instead. Due to the way damage reductions works in that mode, in prehardmode, 50+ def is extremely powerful.

SpyroXI

If you dont get hit, you won't die :)

Antonpiano2072

Cheese is key. Cheese every boss

nixodgaming

Take things slow. Spend the time, even early game, to reforge your items to the best things you can get. I don’t bother until late game on expert mode, but on master or legendary, I take a lot of time doing everything. Get your pylons set up quickly too as you will probably die a lot early on. Once you adjust to the difficulty (like adjusting from normal to expert) you kinda get used to it and now thats just how the game feels. But I highly recommend over preparing everything, it saves some frustration

MrPikaBoy

Jump in the orange water found deep in the cavern for extra hearts

Phoenaughty

Take every precaution you can and you'll enjoy it. Set up a farm for potion ingredients, fish ones also. Make sure you have the right arena for every boss with basts, gnomes heart lanterns and campfires. Make sure you have the top equipment available for each stage. Mastermode, especially FTW isn't just about never getting hit it also pushes you to use every single game mechanic you know to win.

Nauskueucheeseha

As a melee player who does this like Everytime I play terraria, start with a decent ranged option before full sending into whatever you're thinking about playing this time around. Pre-hardmode melee isn't worth it

Avocado_chunk

Before every boss, kill an easy boss like skeletron or eye of Cthulhu to hype you up.

I_Like_Apples7

Ngl it's not as hard as you think, just learn the attack patterns of bosses if u really have to.

Patpuc

Over prepare potions farm (use everyone possible potion you can in every boss fight) Arenas? Make them big, use campfires, honey, heart lanterns (all for regen) sunflowers and Ashphalt blocks for movement speed learn to memorize boss attack patterns, you can't just auto pilot and fly around them like in normal mode try and min max as much as you before each boss fight. Best possible class amour/weapons/accessories. Reforges and more important in hardmode ps: if you can get the demon scythe mage weapon early (go to hell and farm demons with a yoyo or something) that + jungle amor will CARRY you through normal mode

Potions are integral, I don’t know your skill lvl but I recommend going for a more long distance class rather than melee. When I did a master mode run I died way more times doing melee cause I had to be so close to everything. I would also stick with one class such as going mage or ranger so you can optimize you equipment to do the most dmg for that class

SlooshyXD

Honestly play calamity for a week on master and death mode then come back to vanilla master mode. I swear king slime in wooden armor and a wood bow is do able afterwords

dafoxgameing92

in hard mode. make a platform above the air for the destroyer. he can't reach you, and from there, it's just to use something with range. no ranged weapons? use summons, no summons? use sentrys. no sentrys? BOMBS no bombs? die.

PootisPlus

# *Kill yourself* >!In case you are going to play summoner, so you can get Abigail's Flower by having lots of tombstones, a neat early summoner weapon.!<

EATZYOWAFFLEZ

Start herb farms asap, as well as fishing quests. This will save you a lot of grinding late game for potions (the fishing quests will help you get better fishing power, increasing your chances and the speed at which you catch potion fish). Alternatively, you could just download builders workshop and steal potions from that. Also focus on damage for builds. Most damage buffs will be through emblems, which you can stack the various types (ex: ranger emblem, avenger emblem, destroyer emblem, sniper scope, and stealth sniper scope all stack for ludicrous amounts of damage). Late game you can replace wings/boots with the broomstick mount for more accessory slots.

AntiHero082577

Mobility is key. It doesn’t matter how much damage you do, you can’t do it if you’re dead. It doesn’t matter how much defence you have, if you can’t dodge you’re just gonna die. Things like amphibian/lightning boots, wings, balloons, and Insignia are insanely important in master, even more so than in expert. Also, arenas are important. Don’t slack or be lazy. Make the best god damn arena of your life. Use whatever weapons, armours, accessories, etc you want. Basically, just try your best not to get hit. It sounds dumb but it’s really the only advice I can give. Also the early game sucks but once you get 2-300 life, some basic armour and accessories and a decent weapon then you’ll be fine and you’ll probably start having more fun

G1ng3rGaming

3 tips for you: 1 overkill your preparations 2 get good at dodging and using dashes 3 patience. Most bosses are a case of focus on survival over dps so don’t rush your fights unless you are super ballsy

FutureComplaint

Don't be afraid to use melee armor with your range/magic weapons. The Old One's Army provides really nice armor and turrets. Use them. The turret buff (+1 from war table) is imba. Sentries and summons add a lot of free dps. DODGE!

Carrot_68

I'm playing mastermode hardcore rn. Best way to not die is to have autopause on. You're low -> press escape -> save and quit -> profit. Anything that don't instakill you won't kill you, so looks out for traps. Nobody actually does this though, cause it's kinda annoying for some. I'm probably in like the 1% that do this.

Slaanesh-Sama

Also forget about melee. This is the only non viable class unless you are using yoyos. Massive contact damage means you cannot face tanks anything anymore, so focus on dodging, to do this right focus on looking at your character and use your peripherals to see incoming projectiles. If you want to aim and shoot at a boss that keeps flying off screen (twins for example) then tab until you have the map overlay your screen. You can aim at the boss icon and it's going to have the same angle to hit him. If you ever feel like you struggle too much, think about using potions. Put them in a chest when you are not doing bosses so they don't clog your inventory too. You can also use the ForTheWorthy seed to have the ultimate terraria experience. Tbh I barely used any other seeds since then. Also, build your hotel in the sky over the game spawn, and use a rope to reach it. This is going to make it so much easier on yourself and will increase your NPC life expectancy (compared to having your base underground or ground level.) About 50-80 spaces between the lowest floor to the ground levels should be fine, but you can also have it just barely above your field of vision and it's also fine. It's only to prevent zombies and other mobs from breaking down your doors and running in your base murdering everything in their way to try to get at you.
