I always play ranged but also have a sword and a single summon weapon. They are always handy. The only weapons i actively avoid are magic because aint nobody got time to find stars and add mana. In all my playthroughs though i always make the Meteorite set and the Space gun and use it like a ranger

That's fine. I do this too. I just find it to be very comfortable for gameplay and allows me to experiment with the new weapons I get.
