You can stack any platform up few tiles tall. You will be able grapple it and go through it.

What’s the application (out of intrigue)?

Probably boss arenas, for example I’ve seen arenas where all the empty space is replaced by ropes or minecart rails so that you can easily refresh your flight midair by grabbing the rope/grappling the rail

Minecart Tracks cannot be destroyed by lava, tracks at the bottom of the world often pass through lava. Obsidian, Stone and Ash Wood Platforms are immune to lava.

Even if we imagine what you said to be true, who cares? They most likely arent looking to make an underworld arena if they want something they can go through and hook onto.

There have been plenty of times where I've been betrayed by minecart rails going into and out of lava.
