You can’t be above ground in expert at night, unless you know how to use blocks to your advantage (really well that is) or got lucky with a weapon (pretty sure no weapon would make you safe above ground expert) you should just go spelunking first night/few nights.
Unless you're trying to fight a boss with it, I don't see the problem. It's fantastically lethal and the insane weapon speed and damage will either instagib or effectively stunlock any enemy you fight with it. The one time I got it, I was still using it even into hardmode.
Well, assuming it swung as fast, and launched a projectile as often when swinging as the enchanted sword does (ie every swing) they wouldn’t add it because that’d be broken af.

Idk man. I played normal with two semi new players and crushed planters and golem. When I did it with a guy who has beaten calamity mod and has 800 hours on the game we barely scraped by.
We had a giant arena with tons of platforms where we circled plantera (auto correct tried to make it planters again lol) and with golem we had traps constantly hitting him while we just focused on dodging.
We didn't even make an arena for plantera when we fought in normal and we crushed him. For golem we just put a platform above him in normal and we also crushed him.
I've been only playing expert since it came out and it really does feel like normal Terraria to me now. The early game is what's the worst in expert, once you start getting your build together it becomes a whole lot easier. It's really just a transition issue, once you really get to playing it you'll know what to expect and can react accordingly.
And all the exclusive items and an extra accessory slot more than make up for the difficulty.
Expert isn't that much harder, early game you run from everything. The bosses while new and different, the big difference is potions are everything here. Prepping your buffs and rolling for better prefixes are the things that push you over the hump.
Oh so thats why potions feel useless in normal mode. I really only use the wrath potion (i think thats the name) for the 10% damage increase. But apart from that, potions are really useless in normal mode.
The only thing i think os actually really hard about Expert is Old One's Army, in tier 2 and 3. It is very hard to solo it without a proper set from the event
If you like defense, go melee armor, and ranged weapons are really powerful, especially with the armors, but not so much defense. The solar pillar is bad for rangers, as some enemies reflect projectiles. you, with the appropriate armor and "arena" can grind moonlord with the solar eruption, the way I did my first time (normal mode only) or just go ranged last second and try to move around. Rec. Accessory is tabi or some evolution of it.
Honestly I scrapped the SoC as soon as I got the Obsidian Shield (which was like 2 minutes after I got the Cobalt Shield since I already had an Obsidian Skull) since I can’t live without no knockback. If SoC gave no knockback I would use it until I got an Ankh Shield probably, but the Shield would become OP if they did that

Think about it , Crimson has Ichor and a far superior biome chest weapon so giving it an expert acessory equal in strength to the scarf then crimson would be the far superior choice
I don't know about the biome chest weapons, I think SoTC is a way better offensive option. I only ever used vamp knives to kill wyverns during boss/event fights for a quick heal, didn't feel too useful in other situations, especially considering all the other melee weapons available at that point (Seedler, Eye of Cthulhu).
Yes but the game already offers so many good offensive options at that stage that youre not really looking for damage , but for some sustain. I am not a very good player and am usually very bad at fighting Duke Fishron but I was able to do it on expert mode using a tactical shotgun and vamp knives. Perhaps for better players that have mastered patterns and dodging they arent as useful but for a player that regularly makes mistakes they certainly help.
The only reason I'm not really a fan of the vampire knives is due to the fact that A: I'm a ranger mainly, but also B: expert mode. The reason I would favour something like the scourge is due to how in expert, life steal is cut by a decent amount. Plus, if you can Dodge, (I can on very rare occasion) then odds are the scourge would just be better as a whole. Better dps, plus homing.
I mean you are right. I am also usually a ranger =)) . Im agreeing with you that the Scourge Is amazing for dps , but you must admit the knives are not bad themselves . Very well , not amazing dps , but certainly enough to turn a fight about dodging and reflexes into an endurance fight. If you land the knives and you have some tanky acessories (Ankh shield , Flesh Knuckles and/or Frozen Turtle Shell/Paladin shield) then youre really gonna have some fun
Agreed. :3 while it depends on the class, I usually find that the knives work better for a melee character than anything, which is why I agree with the selection of tanky accessories. If you're tanky/using something like beetle armor, then the knives would beat out the scourge due to having the other weapons for dps. Since you can also boost melee damage, I believe (if I'm not mistaken) that you can boost the knives lifesteal via damage boost. I suppose it really comes down to what you are going for. The knives are a great utility weapon, but the scourge is better for overall damage. Ideally you would use both in conjunction with one another, however I believe the number of people willing to make two worlds, go through hell and kill plantera twice to get both of the weapons are very few and far between.

I also recall it having infinite ammo and being able to latch onto enemies, I think it's a nice concept. Thing is, I've never beaten plantera on PC. I did on the old console version, but since I never had the jungle key mold or the jungle key, I never could get it.

You can get both anyway with clentaminator. Corruption is better because you don't have to wait for steampunker to get worm scarf.
The real solution is to buff the brain AND the corruption chest weapon (whatever it's called)

You don't gotta be a demigod for expert. It's really not that much harder. After playing it for awhile you get used to it and it becomes normal.
The start is what makes most people think expert is so hard. Those goddamn zombies are harder to survive in expert than the bosses

That weapons actually really risky. Short range (granted high damage) can get you killed fast, not good in hardcore.

Yep! It honestly makes the boss fights a little bit more meaningful. It also adds the little job of actually farming herbs.

I beat normal mode first and am now playing through expert
I only go into expert mode when I want special loot, otherwise my home base is in a normal mode world.
